Huh… what can you say about this place? It is unlike anything I had been to, but not in a bad way. The bartenders were really friendly, and the prices weren’t bad considering we were in tourist trap central. The clientele was not what I expected in Texas, but eh’ what the hell, they were all friendly. Enjoyed listening to the guy in a business suit doing karaōke to hard rock, that was fun.

You know you’re in a good place when it’s packed with regulars and has a funky smell to it. It may be a divey good place, but that’s downtown living. The Texan II or The Texan Deuce as I kindheartedly call it is my place to go when I want to listen to obnoxiously loud music, become obnoxious and talk to a bunch of colorful hipsters with a great sense of style. Key favs include a pool table, dreadful karaōke, one stall bathrooms with ancient hand driers, stiff drinks, the most excellent bartenders and last but not least, the vending machine with snacks and cigarettes. We once met some Canadians who were told they HAD to come here and they were not disappointed and they live in Canada for Cheese and Rice! Come here often!

Behold! I give you the Texan 2! Few bars in the world can match the splendor presented at this fine establishment. You enter, descending a marble staircase lined with rare ostrich feathers and precious stones. At the end of the staircase, you are greeted with a cornucopia of sensory excess. Fire breathing gremlins, bartenders on stilts, majestic unicorns, a three-story high fountain of gold, and an ATM. As you pass the basilisk guarding the entrance(hint: the password is «I think I shall have a drink») you see the 100 foot long granite bar. And, a drink, you shall have. Oh yes.

We discovered this place some time back while staying at the St. Anthony hotel right around the corner. This is a «River Rat»(as the service people affectionately refer to themselves) dive at it’s best! You won’t find a tourist at this joint. Drinks are STRONG and cheap, the people are great — we’ve made many friends during our visits here. I think it’s the only place I can actually stand karaōke at. Vending machine with cigarette packs and snacks — both must haves for many drinkers. When someone orders a pizza it often becomes communal eats. The Texan II is the epitome of dive done right! My only question is, what happened to Texan I?

Oh you classy little dirty dive how I love you! Interesting charm and crowd to boot! Love to cycle in and hang my bike up for a few brews and maybe a round or two of pool. Always a great bartender that is fun and attentive behind the bar. Great little place for all walks of life to come in and have a cold one.

This is tough to review since most every time I’ve been here I’ve been pretty buzzed. It’s a bar, they have my fav Ziegenbock on tap. Other than that it’s just a bar downtown. My friends love it though, which is why I keep coming back.

Great little hole in the wall bar downtown. NOT for the faint of heart or hipster. Terran, the bartender made the place cool. We shot some Irish Car Bombs, and drank some Lonestar tall boys and the bill was way under what I expected for downtown. The bathrooms are a bit scary, but it is what it is being a hole in the wall cheap dive downtown, I wouldn’t recommend this for anyone who isn’t afraid to water a tree or use a port-o-potty during fiesta!

I don’t get to come here often but when I do I have fun! I love the internet juke box. This is a downtown dive that locals go to. They have drink specials almost everyday. And a few bar games for a little friendly competition! I look forward to making my pilgrimage to The Texan II, even if it is only a few times a year. The bartenders have always made sure that I was taken care of and that I was having a good time!

This is most definitely a dive bar, and I like it! It’s laid back, the drinks are cheap and the bartenders are nice. They have a couple of TVs so you can watch the Spurs game, or you can play a game of pool or a game of darts. I’m going to agree with Eilla who said this bar isn’t super smoky — I love that I am able to breathe in this bar and that I don’t come out reeking of stale cigarettes at the end of the night. I’m sure people do smoke in here, but I’ve never seen it. The crowd is another great thing here — it’s not swanky, it’s not a meat market, it’s not hipster. All you’ll see is people who don’t want to have to get dressed up to have a drink. You’ll see locals; regulars; bikes; tattoos and piercings; jeans; shorts; people just leaving their shifts at the hotels in the area… If you’re looking for a laid back bar where you can shoot some pool, watch the game and have great conversation, go to the Texan II!

Parking could be a pain but again, it’s in downtown. Friendly bartender. They’re going under some renovations but the place is looking great. It is spacious and they hold an art show every month at the bar. Music is good. First bar I’ve been to that isn’t super smoky. I pretty much enjoyed myself there with everyone.
