Really bland food. How does fried food have such little flavor it’s an oxymoron really! I got the fish and chips with a side of deep fried mushrooms. My date got the open faced sandwich. Nothing about the meal was quality and I left hungry and disappointed. I will never go back.

The food is good, not great, but the bartenders are TERRIBLE! I have been there twice now and may never go back. They need to hired experienced staff. Kids right out of high school will never make you any money.

Great place, too bad they don’t care about customer service at all. Last time we came we were seated and waited 20 minutes, no one came, so we left. This time it was Sunday night, the place was deserted but it still took 15 minutes to get the waitresses attention for anything. She was busy chatting with co-workers. We won’t be back, even though we live right here in stone oak.

After leaving England in 2009, my family and I have been on the hunt for great Sticky Toffee Pudding. After almost six years of searching, we finally found it at The Lion & Rose Pub! A special shout out to our server Serena who made us feel at home and made the Lion & Rose a part of our dining routine.

I’m sad to say I will not be going back. this has been a regular stop for the CP and I, but the place has gone down hill. The bathrooms are usually just plan ‘nasty’. I can get past a dirty bathroom but the place is not busy so when was the last they cleaned it. The bar area stinks and looks dirty. The service is great then lousy, it depends on who is working. Food is good but it used to be great. It’s a good thing they have other locations because I can still get my Lion & Rose fix.

I love their hostess. I ordered the fish and chips and it came with two sides. The mac and cheese was terrible, but the fries were pretty good. It can get pretty hipsteriffic here.

Went there late a few nights ago! Supper happy with everything. We missed there inverted happy hour, being the the server was kind enough to inform us of a special on Stella. Best beer I have ever tasted! My hubby got a sidecar, basically a well drink version, but it came out wonderfully. For food we tried the brulee cheesecake, and the bread pudding. Both of which were fantastic, well crafted, and fresh! Service was prompt and cheerful… And I so hope to go back!

Some of our friends raved about this place, so my wife and I had to check it out. Not so good. Felt old and dirty. The booths were way to private it felt like each booth was it’s own room. No really happy with the food and the beer was not very cold. I’m sure it’s great for some. It was not for us.

This is a neat place exactly what I would picture in the streets of London. The menu is plenty and the bar is filled with many spirits and taps. I enjoyed my gimlets from the bargain Pam. Definitely a soccer lovers place.

I’m new to the area and this is the first place I went in San Antonio with a group of people from work. Small bar with TV’s but in the dining area there’s a huge projector which must get busy for games! Service was excellent from Management to servers, I would go back just for that. Food was good, good beer specials. I’d recommend!

So I decided to give this place another chance based on the response from the owner and I am glad I did. There appears to be a new staff and a new(and better) outlook on customer service. All staff was very attentive and friendly. The manager on duty checked on us several times as well. We didn’t order food, so I can’t speak to any improvements on that, but the drinks were better, atmosphere much better, and experience overall was a huge improvement from the last one. I will be back now that it has improved so much.

I like the Lion and Rose restaurants, but the one time I visited this location for lunch on a Saturday, I got poor service. Other than that, the food is consistent with the other locations.

Took my hubby here for his birthday dinner today. It was our first time and we had a very pleasant experience. Our waitress was great! She recommended the fish and chips and we loved it! My hubby chose mac and cheese and that was tasty. I should have gotten that instead of the Cole slaw. It was ok but next time I’ll get mac and cheese. She also recommend Harp Beer for my hubby which he loved and my Maui Waui was good… though I tasted more syrup than rum. We took bread pudding home for dessert. Can’t wait to try that later. We will be back for sure!

Good is ok. But the drinks and service are usually above average. Drink specials are usually above par. Never crowded unless there is a futbol game

Each of the Lion & Rose locations has its own signature personality but for my money the Sonterra/Stone Oak location is arguably the best of the bunch. Ample seating, a sizable and quiet private room, tons of TVs for game night, a VIP section, darts, snooker, daily food and drink specials, trivia night, live music, and an umbrella-covered outdoor smoking area are a few of its features. There’s never a lack of space at the bar if you just want to wind down or chat with one of their cheerful, knowledgeable bartenders. And if you’re in for hearty food and a wide selection of beers, wines and liquors, you can’t go wrong at L&R. How this place isn’t packed wall to wall every night of the week is a mystery.

Typically Lion and Rose creates a 3 – 3.5 star experience. On this occasion, it was probably closer to 1.5 stars. I came here with two friends on a Thursday evening at around 7:30. We were planning on having dinner and a drink or two. The hostess seemed particularly spaced out when I asked her if she’d seen our friend. He was wearing a distinctive article of clothing that would’ve made him memorable to most, but she looked at us with vacant eyes and answered that she wasn’t paying very close attention of who was coming and going. She said we were welcome to look around. Just as I peeked into the dining room, my friend walked in the door. This particular location has a nice patio so we opted to sit outside and enjoy the nice spring weather. The hostess told us to just sit wherever we wanted and she’d let someone know we were out there. This was just before I had to practically beg for menus from her. It seemed like she was either on drugs, or just not fully present in the human realm. This should’ve been a warning sigh. Whatever it was, I was annoyed. Determined not to let that weird encounter bother us, we found a nice table and enjoyed the fading sunlight and a slight breeze. We waited around 15 minutes for our presence to be acknowledge by our server. At which point one of my friends had already gone inside to ask for a beer list. Of course the server came while she was not at the table so I had to order for her and dig through her purse so that I could show her ID.(Luckily she didn’t mind and was just glad to quench her parched lips.) Although we are all well past legal drinking age, it seemed like a really easy way for someone under 21 to get a drink at this bar. Just ask someone else to show«your» ID and say that you went to the bathroom. I had a glass of house wine that was on special for $ 2.99, one friend had a bloody mary, and the other friend had a margarita, also on special. They were adequate. Nothing remarkable in either direction. They just were. When we ordered drinks, I also ordered an appetizer– Chips with Guinness cheese. This is my absolute favorite thing that this faux-Brit pub serves. Unfortunately, it took about 45 minutes to 1 hour for them to be brought to our table. This happened only because one of my friends thought it was taking to long for someone to come outside and went inside to check. The server came out and took our second round of drink orders, came our with our drinks and took our food order and mentioned our appetizer would be out shortly. Eventually our appetizer came out, as delicious as it always is. We all snacked and talked about how the cheese needed to bottled and sold at HEB. Our food came out about 10 – 15 minutes after that. I had the fish n chips, one friend had the sidekick burgers from the appetizer menu, and the other friend had the calamari also from the appetizer menu. My fish was a little too soggy and greasy. It was almost like it was started in oil that was not quite hot enough. it was fine with enough lemon. The chips were the best part of the plate since I don’t particularly care for coleslaw. My friend at her burgers with nary a peep so I will assume that she enjoyed them. My other friend mostly played with his calamari. I tried them, they were actually pretty good, but the pieces were a little bit large and that made them hard to eat. When we were finished, we waited, and waited and waited some more. Eventually our server came out to check on us, we asked for our checks and those came out pretty quickly. I was really disappointed because the other locations usually have prompt and attentive service. I’m not expecting perfect service, but this was really getting close to a completely unacceptable level of disregard. We could’ve very easily walked the check if we were criminally inclined. I think perhaps this was a case of out of sight, out of mind because there were very few other people around to claim it was too busy. I don’t think it’ll dissuade me from visiting L&R in the future, but I will certainly not be sitting on the patio.

For a pub, the food here is actually pretty good. The portion sizes are big and the prices average. The beer specials are awesome. It’s a pretty chill environment and very relaxing depending on if you are near the back or near the bar. The best of both worlds. Servers are fairly attentive as well.

Love the fish and chips. It’s a pub after all … what else would you judge it using? The beer selection I suppose ~ sadly this trip didn’t allow for that type of indulgence. This was probably my third time at this location and 6th or 7th overall. They are always consistent and polite! Luckily for me, the other trips did include beer yumminess and the selection is pretty awesome. This trip was part of my monthly lunch meeting rotation and they did not disappoint! We had approximately 24 women — all ordering off the normal menu and needing separate checks. This type of service is getting harder and harder to find in SA. The small room they put us in was perfect and very comfortable ~ also not as easy to ind as you would think! We conducted a lengthy(didn’t mean for it to be quite THAT long) meeting after lunch was served and paid for — not a single peep from any of the servers and we still received a thank you from the manager on the way out. GREATSERVICE. I’d also like to say a big thank you to whoever it was that helped them eradicate the smoke smell from the buildings… it’s so nice to go in and not have to deal with that smell anymore :)

Well, this was a disappointing dinner. My hubby and I went here the other night for a late night dinner. If you live in San Antonio, you know that after 9pm your choices start falling off fast. We knew that The Lion and the Rose served until midnight, and decided to give them a whirl… wish we didn’t. We stood at the hostess stand for over 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged or approached us. If the restaurant had been busy, I would have completely understood, but it was mostly empty. We were eventually led to our table, only to have to wait for another 10 minutes before our waitress came to see if we were thirsty, hungry, or even still breathing. We started off with the Chips And Guinness Cheese, and were sad to see that there wasn’t anywhere enough cheese for the chips. I would have asked for more, but we didn’t see our waitress again for a very long time. By the time she came back, we had eaten all the cheese and the chips were now cold. I ordered Mum’s Meatloaf and my hubby chose Central London Chicken Curry. My meatloaf looked more like a hamburger patty with some seasoning. His chicken had a great flavor, but there was hardly any curry sauce. After we ate, we were very dissatisfied. Then began the wait for the check. I finally flagged someone down and got an excuse that our waitress was busy with a large party. I looked around and didn’t see one… maybe they were in another area of the house. We paid our bill and left, vowing never to return.

Great British gastropub with friendly atmosphere and good food. I was impressed with the selection, a lot of Irish and British type pub food along with hamburgers and such, but with a large selection of European and local beers. I went with one of the daily beer special, which was really good though I can’t remember the name. For food, I went with the Shepherd’s pie, which is what I usually get at British pubs. It didn’t disappoint and was delish. The waitresses are really cute, they’re young and friendly and enough of a reason to go to lighten your mood. This night I was there with a bunch of San Antonio magicians, and apparently a bunch of them love going out and impressing girls with their magic. My friend who I was with from LA is a 4 time Magician of the Year winner, so they all goaded him to do something for our waitress. Needless to say, she was speechless, and couldn’t believe what she had just seen, and word quickly spread to the other waitresses what was going on. That’s when we made our exit, but I’m sure the other magicians were more than happy to address the found attention. Fun place!
