This place is hands down the best taco joint on the west side, dare I say the city. I have been going here for years. Probably around 20 years or more. That should tell you something right there. In a city where restaurants come and go, go out of business and seem to disappear, this place has been around for a very long time. They have the best tortillas, best barbacoa, best bistek ranchero and everything else you can try, it’s the best. I would never trade in my Tacos Martinez for anything. Any time I get back in town,(I work out of town like 3 weeks out of the month), my first stop is always Tacos Martinez.

Homemade tortillas stuffed with your favorite filling on a cafeteria line. Everything from pollo con mole to tripas and lengua. They also have standard mexican plates flautas, enchiladas, chile rellenos etc. great homemade taste, just like your abuelita makes em and an excellent value. The place is a little dingy but the food is great!

Went to eat with my wife and kids. Line was long, no worries we waited. We ordered 2 enchilada plates and tacos. Tacos were food my son spit out enchilada back on plate as soon as he tasted them. Btw he loves enchiladas. My wife tasted hers then said«oh no they taste horrible!» She took back my sons plate just wanting a taco in exchange. The cashier told my wife«isn’t that what you got too?» She replied«yes and I’m not eating them either.» He gave her back her money and told her she needed to get back in line to order for my son! Line had at least 20 – 25 people. My wife returned her plate as well and was only charged for rice and beans. I don’t understand with this type of service how it manages to stay so busy. Never will we return there. Btw my tacos weren’t all that either.

This is the stuff I grew up on. I started eating here as a child over thirty years ago, and I still find myself going back every time I visit San Antonio. They do what a lot of Mexican Restaurants are afraid to do and that is make a plate of pure greasy goodness. Always great and never disappoints. It’s one of the reasons I look forward to coming back to SA every year. I hope it’s around for another 30 years.

Hats off to one of the cofounder’s of Taco Martinez Suzie on her passing. If it weren’t for her this restaurant would be non existent

We drive from round rock, tx, about 2 hrs, for their lengua. Their tacos are huge and so good! If you have time go next door and get sweet bread after!

A couple of friends and I decided to bicycle from downtown San Antonio to the westside. Now we have our regular weekend spot but from time to time, I’ll do a bit of experimenting to try out a restaurant on a weekend. It was early when we arrived, maybe 7:30am. We had intended to bicycle further but one of our riders mentioned he’d eaten at Tacos Martinez. Okay, I’ll be your huckeberry. We decided to make a bicycle u-turn and stop for breakfast. This place is an old school cafeteria style restaurant. Memories of taking my turn in school cafeterias as a boy flooded back to me. You remember those days. Grabbing a tray, cutlery and chocolate milk while sliding a food tray on a metal counter. Today, I chose one of the breakfast plates(2 pancakes, 2 eggs, bacon strips) and the price of $ 3.75 still left me some jingle to mingle. It was a good solid plate of food. It’s not a flashy place but I felt like my business was appreciated instead of feeling like a number. After eating, we made our way to the parking lot with our bicycles, I noticed their parking lot was filling up. A full parking lot at a restaurant is usually a good sign. I’m feeling so nostalgic, I might need to write a song. I’ve got a working title: To all the cafeteria ladies I’ve known before. Yeah, I know, I’d better keep my day job.

We came here with friends a few years ago and try to always come here for breakfast at least once whenever we are in town. The fresh hand made flour tortillas are good. Definitely a locals place but that’s what we like.

Usually OK. Good flour tortillas. I like the«lengua sin chile» tacos, and the«papas con huevo» tacos. Served cafeteria style — not something i particularly care for. Overall B-.

Not as good as it was 30 years ago. New cook who didn’t keep the receipe original.
