Rosita’s Bridge spans the San Antonio River right at the bend by Arneson River Theater. It’s an historic and beautiful closed-spandrel arch bridge built by the WPA in 1940. It’s a great place to get some pictures taken, or if you’re lucky, an even better place to watch a show being played at Arneson! Back in the day, Arneson River Theater was a junkyard along the bend of the San Antonio River. They decided to clean it up, and turn it into a public space. I’m so glad that they did! Rosita’s Bridge is named after Rosita Hernandez, a Mexican Singer who helped bridge the cultures of San Antonio. She was in the original Alamo movie with John Wayne, and was called«San Antonio’s First Lady of Song» by Lady Bird Johnson. It’s really quite appropriate that this bridge is named after her! It’s great place to stand and watch the river boats go underneath! The bridge is only for pedestrians, and it’s not ADA compliant.
