Great concept, but Pollo Tropical fails miserably in its implementation. The chicken was cold and dried out with no flavor. It seems it’s been sitting around for hours waiting to be sold. Avoid this place.

Drive thru tonight, post 9pm. Food is good but incomplete. They gave my order to the person in front of me(kind of amusing at the time, if i’m being honest), but then must have been in a hurry to remake my order, as they forgot my side. In summary: the person in front of me got something completely different than what she ordered and paid for, and I got an incomplete version of my food. What I got of my order was good, so you get two stars.

Food has been really good the three times I’ve been there. Chicken was slightly dry but it was drive thru so it gets a pass. Flavor was great. Sides have been good. Yuca, plantains, yellow rice, black beans and Caesar salad were all tasty. Sauces like curry mustard were great.

I knew better. But I gave it a try. The outside décor is quite attractive and gives high hopes that the exterior designers also appreciate good food. Calypso beef. This must-be-prepackaged salty beef-like substitute was an absolute insult for its lack of quality and tiny portion. The side ceasar salad was also the smallest salad I have ever seen delivered to a table. I was looking around for the candid camera crew to pop put any moment and finish the prank. But no. The other little chipotle clone dishes were also pathetic in flavor and quality. The portions are just a joke for the prices and the rice in the bowl wasn’t even cooked through. The sauce bar could have been cool but it is strategically placed with a low plastic ceiling to make it difficult to get a full scoop into the tiny plastic sauce cups. It was a horrid mess with sauce drippings all around it. And even if you are successful enough to get any decent amount of sauce out … There doesn’t appear to be any food worthy of using it. This place makes Del Taco look like a gourmet kitchen. They had the ironic request for a survey. What’s the point? I enjoy a good laugh but come on. I will not be back.

Well, at least this place is a little change from the tex mex I’m normally stuck eating! I was actually impressed with my food, since I wasn’t expecting much from a Caribbean inspired place in San Antonio. Chicken was great, sides were good, fried plaintains were delicious. Sauce bar is a neat idea, I’m just not big on sauce in general and would rather the flavor be in the food. Good well-rounded menu for picky parties. Side note for parents: They have highchairs! 5 stars= Driving across town just for this! 4 stars= I would recommend visiting. 3 stars= Average, acceptable, positive. 2 stars= You might be able to drag me in. 1 star= I will definitely not be returning.

While the food can be a bit pricey for what it is, it’s worth it to get relatively«healthy» fast food that tastes good and won’t make you feel too guilty afterwards. I always order the chicken when I go here(although once I ordered the pork and wasn’t too impressed with it). The best sides they offer are the balsamic tomatoes and the mashed potatoes with gravy. As far as sauces go, it can be a hit or a miss… My favorite is the Guava BBQ, hands down. On the other hand, I found the Spicy Poyo Poyo rather disappointing considering the fact that I love spicy food/sauces. Overall, it’s a refreshing change of pace in terms of «fast food» that I’d recommend at least trying.

This place is SO inconsistent! This review is FORTHISPARTICULARPOLLO, not all Pollo Tropical’s in general. Others I’ve been to in the city have all been great! So I was excited when they were about to open one near my house. It’s been disappointment ever since. The MANAGEMENTMUSTSUCK, otherwise I can’t see why they would have such slow service and constant problems. ALL my visits have had WRONGORDERS… red beans or greens beans instead of black(I actually had 3 separate occasions when I got the wrong type of bean), missing items from my order… ONCETHEYRANOUTOFYELLOWRICE!!! WTF???(And they didn’t tell me– just gave me white rice instead, when I looked and went back to exchange it they said they actually didn’t have any more yellow rice– this was at 9 at night). No utensils or napkins with to go orders, hit or miss with beans– sometimes they’re so thick I can’t choke them down and other times they’re completely just drifting in water. I’m so sick of the inconsistency! You’d think they’d just have a formula and stick with it… and tell their people not to be so goofy at the drive thru!

My husband is obsessed with this place. Being Dominican he loves that there is a fast, cheap and pretty decent place with a Caribbean vibe and offerings. I like that they have healthy options that are good and cheap. The tropi chop and healthy chicken with tomatoes and both pretty solid. I also snuck a bit of Mac and cheese and it was really good! So is the pineapple salsa!

We absolutely love the food, and the staff is incredible. The manager was wonderful when their card machine went down in the drive-thru. We will definitely be back.

As of right now I’m not impressed. I ordered a chicken Caesar salad with the dressing on the side. I do this because I save it for a late lunch and I dip my chicken in dressing not the lettuce. They have military discount. Woot! The lady at the drive thru window was extremely friendly. She handed me my salad and I was on my way. When I got home I found that the dressing was not on the side and was on the salad instead of calling to complain I figured I’d suck it up as lunch was like ½hour away. When it was time to eat I found the lettuce had wilted. There was entirely too much dressing on the salad. The Caesar dressing flavor was good but it was very thin. The croutons were from a box and nothing special. I didn’t notice any cheese on the salad. The chicken was good tho. I will try this place again, but only because 1) mistakes happen and 2) the chicken was juicy and flavorful so I’d try a sandwich next time.

Where to start!!! I tried going to another location and couldn’t get in the front door because they threw mop water there and being disabled, it’s hard to walk on slippery surfaces. Decided to try the«new» place. Ordered the chicken and a beef tropichop and yucca. The yucca was overcooked and the beef trop didn’t have the black beans I asked for. It tasted pretty good. While waiting to get my order taken I had to listen to 2 employees behind the cashier arguing if the girl talked white because the guy said so. The girl taking orders had a hard time taking orders and the girl at the drive thru was shaking her head. I was happy to give it another shot but probably no more.

Nothing special here. Ordered a chipotle chicken sandwich meal with fries and a drink to-go. Sandwich was decent at best, nothing I couldn’t make at home. And don’t even get me started on the portion of waffle fries I got… and STALE. Only gave yall 2 stars for good service by the blonde kid at the counter

Amazing PLACE! It’s a change from all the tex mex and Mexican food. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to eat healthy and good. Try the mojo roast pork and don’t forget to hit the sauce bar.

Great on customer service but seemed to be short on food temperatures and flavors. I had the ¼ Trio and received pulled Pork, Chicken, and some type of meat. Black beans, yellow rice, and Mac& cheese were my sides. Well, the Pork was nice as hot like the rice, black beans, and the Mac&Cheese but the chicken was lukewarm and the meat was cold. My wife had the Calypso plays with the pulled pork and all was good with the exception of the green beans. Not a good experience. ‘Waitress’ or food runner kept passing us and would not stop. I had to walk to counter. Supervisor brought out another dish of meat and green beans. We waited awhile to finish our meals since we were trying to get food runner to stop at our table. We won’t be back.
