1) it’s in the middle of nowhere 2) the staff is rude and clearly do not know how to bartend… We got 8 beers and instead of putting the remaining 6 in one of the 18 buckets they had behind the bar they said they couldn’t do it??? 3) no specials on drinks so be prepared to be rapped on prices. 4) dirty bathroom 5) The owner seems to have spent a ridiculous amount of money on a sound system and stage lighting for a bar. The stage lighting was way too much for such a small place… be prepared to be blinded once the show starts.

This might be the worst bar in San Antonio. It’s in the middle of nowhere. It’s filthy. I love dive bars, but this one is intolerably gross. I went to see a band tonight only to find out that the bar cancelled the show at the last minute because the band apparently didn’t pre-sell enough tickets. I have never heard of such a thing – I planned to buy my ticket at the door. I’ll never be back. Musicians, fans, anyone wanting to avoid hepatitis, stay away!

This bar is a hidden gem! My friend and I love getting together for drinks on the weekends and this is one of our favorite spots. This bar has live bands on the weekends; the times I’ve gone they’ve been rock/heavy metal so that’s a plus! The beer is cheap and the space is big enough to not feel overcrowded. It’s a laid-back bar so you don’t have to get all gussied up to chill out here. My only complaint is that they’ve recently started to charge a $ 5 cover(at least on Saturdays). I know $ 5 isn’t a lot of money, plus you get to see a great live band. However, that cuts in to the beer money so I find myself coming here a little less often. Over all this is a good place to hang out with friends for some really great live bands covering everything from Alice in Chains to Pantera — if you’re willing to shell out $ 5.

This year I’m attempting to cover bars in sections of San Antonio. Now through the years of my drinking life I have frequented quite a bit of bars/clubs/lounges all over SA town. I have neglected Southside, except maybe for Oyster Bake if that even counts. So here’s my review of a couple of local southside bars. First stop– This bar isn’t too shabby. From the outside it looks small however, it’s pretty spacious. They have lights behind that bar that makes the liquor bottles look all pretty. Plenty of seating area throughout the joint, picnic style tables and bar tops to watch a local band play. They seemed pretty new, cuz I swear I could still smell the lacquer. Or that could have been my vodka/tonic. We came on a Thursday night, the best thing about it was the $ 2.00 beer. Even Shiner was just two bucks. They seem to have a nice rotation of bands that come out and jam, also no cover. At least on Thursday night. They do rock it out so if your sitting by the speaker be prepared to lose you hearing temporarily. No servers, just the barkeep and he was pretty cool. If you’re like me and can’t find your way out of a rabbit hole this place isn’t very far off the main highway. Yes, I know, I like to consider myself directionally challenged… so getting back onto the major road was a breeze. So if you looking to venture out somewhere different or hitting up the pick-n-pull and want to stop in for a beer and some live music then check out Papa Woody’s, you won’t be sorry.
