Ponchos is badass! Came here for tacos and got something way better… real homemade tortillas! Out of all the restaurants on this street(old highway 90), General McMullen, culebra, and there’s more restaurants… Panchos so far has the best tortillas. Not to mention their bean-n-cheese tacos, fajitas and chicharron con chile… mmmmmm!

We have been going here since I was a little girl. My Grandpa found the place and this is always our first stop when we get off the plane. We don’t go home first, we go to Pancho’s. First of all the food is authentic. Real Mexican food and it tastes so good! And fresh sopipillas. Of course you must sit in James’ section. He has always waited on my family and he is wonderful! He goes above and behind for all his customers and makes the experience extra special. If you’re in San Antonio this is a must try!

This is a perfectly fine taqueria with some nice $ 4.99 lunch specials that include tea. You get chips with salsa and queso(actually Ricos cheese sauce from a can) for free. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the neighborhood, but it probably doesn’t warrant a special trip. Note: This is a local restaurant and *not* the Pancho’s buffet chain.

Pancho’s is one of those places that you just kind of stumble upon. It is a hole-in-wall on Old Highway 90 next to a convenience store/gas station. The place seats about 30 people. The staff is friendly and attentive. But enough about the place. What makes Pancho’s worthy of a five-star rating by me is the food. This place is as good as it gets when it comes to serving up good breakfast tacos. Here is the breakdown: Bean, bacon & cheese — beans are scrumptious. cooked with the pork manteca that leaves a shimmer like a fresh coat of wax on a ’68 Camaro. I’m talking shine, baby! And with that shine comes a taste that is like no other. The beans burst with a flavor that screams Ay Dios Mio! Add some sharp cheddar and a strip of thick cut bacon. Well, I just took my taco taste buds to a whole new level. Lengua guisada — The French aren’t the only ones who like tongue. Pancho’s slow cooks this meat and it becomes a fork-tender taco masterpiece. Very delicious. Winnie & Egg — Okay, that is what they call it. I call it a little taste of my childhood. Take hot dogs and cut them up. Fry with a little oil in a pan and add some eggs. Scramble and put in a flour tortilla. A favorite of mine growing up and done just like Mom used to make. Tripa Taco — I know. This is an acquired taste but one that I am very thankful to have acquired. Cooked crispy and with a flavor that screams a grito that could be heard from space. These tripas were out of this world. Served with pico de gallo either in the taco or on the side if that is how you roll. Potato and egg — Potatoes cooked just right. Eggs cooked perfect. Not much else to this staple of breakfast taco cuisine. Goes down good if you throw in some beans with it. Menudo — Had a couple of bites of this and was very impressed. Tripe was very tender and the hominy was tasty. Broth had a little kick to it and that really made everything taste even better. Bean & cheese — First time in my child’s life that she ate a WHOLE taco. That is saying a lot. Same awesome beans and cheddar cheese. This place is just down right awesome. If you live near there, then I am jealous. If you don’t and you have a form of transportation, then what are you waiting for? Get your taco fix at Pancho’s Mexican Restaurant.
