Oasis At Oakwell

Don’t even think about it. This was our worst renting experience by far! I only wish we would have known…
When Margie asked me the day after we moved in if I would go online and write a really good review, it should have been a major red flag!!!
During our second week there, we had a mattress in a box delivered to the office. I went to pick it up and Margie told me that FedEx hadn’t been there today. I told her they left a note on my door that said my box was delivered to the office. She swore up and down she hadn’t seen them and said maybe they left the note and decided not to take it to the office after all. I told her that just seemed so odd… She argued, «Allyson, don’t you think I’d notice if the delivery man came through my office with a huge box???» After an hour on the phone with FedEx, they used GPS on the delivery truck to confirm the delivery was made. The delivery man then called me and gave me a perfect description of Margie, explaining she signed for my package!!! I stormed back in (now for the third time) explaining my new knowledge. She suddenly remembered and began laughing… «Ohhhh I thought that was our package.» Right. So unprofessional. I knew then this would not be a good experience.
Just a few other issues we had:
We moved into our «move in ready» apartment with a long list of things that needed to be immediately addressed like a lose deck railing! (We have small children, scary!) Wasp nests that COVERED the stairs all the way up to our third floor and were also on our front door. They were never taken care of, we went through 3 cans of wasp spray to take care of the problem ourselves.
The apartments are VERY poorly updated. Sloppy job with weak dry wall. Painted bathtubs that peel everywhere. Doors that don’t latch, etc.
Our car was broken into… Which I later found out (from a neighbor) was the 7^th break in that week!
Animals are a huge issue. In the warmer months the whole complex smells like a giant pile of dog poop. I can’t tell you how many times my kids stepped in dog waste. Its on the sidewalk, in the gravel, everywhere! Stray cats, everywhere!
An unbelievable amount of dogs are left out on their porches barking ALL NIGHT. We invested in a noise machine! We had family who visited from out of town and it was all that they could talk about.
There are huge, vicious dogs everywhere. Our first day there, we walked near a woman who shouted for us to stay away, that her dog is mean and bites. ??? And how did he pass the «pet interview!» I never felt safe.
Our laundry room (on the porch) had mold everywhere.
We were told rent would be $ 945 and that it included water & trash. I clarified MULTIPLE times, «so that’s with our utilities (aside from electricity?)» Yes! they would tell us… Then we got our first bill. Added trash fee and trash service fee. Added water fee, added water service fee. Add pest control fee… Etc etc. our rent averaged $ 1,130.00. So deceiving.
Long story short, stay clear! We moved out SIX months ago and STILL HAVE NOT received our deposit. This place is far from an Oasis! We’re so relieved to be out!!!
