Northport Boarding Kennel

Boarded my dog there for the first time in June. Not fancy but Chole was well taken care of and the cost was very affordable. Sorry to report the business is closing as of August 1, 2015.

I boarded my dog at Northport from 9÷24÷14 — 9÷29÷14. When I dropped my dog off, I explained that he was to be administered his medication with dinner and left written instructions about his food and medication, as well as the actual pharmacy bottle with the exact amount of tablets in my dog’s bag. I called on 9÷26÷14 to check on my dog and ensure that his medication was being administered. The man I talked to on the phone assured me that it had been. When I picked up my dog on 9÷29÷14, my dog’s medication was still in the container. When I asked the woman at the desk about why it was not administered she went to find the log kept on the dog’s crate. All the medication administration signature lines were blank. She was not able to provide any explanation for this but told me she would look into it. I have not been contacted by the Northport. Upon arriving home, two ticks were attached behind my dog’s ear. I will no longer trust Northport Kennels with my dog, and have cancelled the two reservations I had already scheduled for the future.

Our dogs have boarded here for years, and all of them love it. When my son was younger, we used to travel a lot for sports, and the dogs were boarded five or six times a year. Now we only come on the holidays. But the dogs never showed any signs of anxiety or stress, and are a always excited to be taken to Northport. When we boarded them at our vets, they were always very anxious, and hated being left. That never happens at here. Eddie and his staff are always courteous, and greet us and our pets by name. I am a big fan, and would never take them anywhere else.

Our dogs have gone here multiple times. It is very very reasonably priced compared to others and staff is loving and caring with them. It is a somewhat older looking kennel but my pups only notice the great care they receive. My dogs now know when we put them in their harnesses that’s where they’re headed and get very excited. No boarding charge for bath on pick up day. Love picking them up smelling clean and looking great. It’s about a 20 minute drive but worth the it. Also staff communicates very well if any issues during or before the stay with phone calls. Love it!

WORST BOARDING PLACE EVER!!! If you care about your dog, don’t take them here! I took my dog in on Saturday morning for one night of boarding. When I asked what time I could pick her up the next day I was informed that they don’t open until 4 pm so I would have to pay for an additional night. The place was disgusting looking and smelled funny with what appeared to be dried dog poop on the floor in the waiting room. I had made an online reservation the previous night and was in a time crunch the next day so I really didn’t have an option of taking her somewhere else. I thought one night, she should be fine. WRONG! I came to pick her up and saw one dog walk out to his owner as the staff informed the owner the dog was having a bit of diarrhea and to keep an eye on it. The next dog walked out HACKING uncontrollably with what seemed to be kennel cough. This is where my panic attack started and so when my dog walked out and had a mild hack (which for her is sometimes normal) I didn’t think much of it. I’ve had her home for 2 days and she officially has kennel cough from this kennel! I vaccinate her for this as regularly as necessary because I work out of town often. I have NEVER had any issues until now. This kennel allows you to put in on your application when your vaccinations took place but I guess they don’t actually double check with the veterinarians of the animals they take in to make sure their dogs come in current on vaccinations. I pray for the welfare of your animal if you choose to take them here.

The place smelled horrible when I went to pick up my dog, not too what happened. I dropped him off on a Saturday and when I picked him up Sunday they tried to charge me double since it was a late day pick up. But they didn’t open Sunday until 4:00 and I was there at 4:05??? This will be the last time I bring my dog here!!!

We were new to SA and tried this place on a whim (and after reading a few decent Unilocal reviews!) Pulling up to the place we thought we might have made a bad choice. It looks a little rough around the edges and kinda crappy. Although this place is no frills looking, the staff was super friendly, and helped answer any questions I had and they were very accomodating when the day before my reservation I needed to actually drop my pup off ahead of time!
The inside is clean, smells nice and they were organized when I dropped her off and picked her up. They were expecting us and and had her all ready to go! If your dog stays a full day on the last day, they will subtract the cost of the last day of boarding if you have your dog bathed. Awesome, $ 5 bath and they put a cute bandana on them!
My dog was tired but happy after coming here, we’ll will deff be using them again.
**Also important to note is that they do check to make sure your dog is current on shots, which gives me a warm fuzzie about my dog’s health and safety. Check out their website online!

We went here because of the other good review. I was in a pinch and they took us immediately. So that was really good! I was concerned though because I haven’t actually seen the kennels and about 10 years ago, this was the same place that my dog caught kennel cough! When I picked up the dogs, they were in tiny little cages in the waiting room and didn’t seem like their normal selves yet. (i.e. Abby was not talking or barking like she always does!) I will have to try it again to give more stars and gain the trust back.

I don’t know who loves this kennel more me or my dog! I have been using Northport for years and I have always been satisfied. My dog is always freshly bathed when we pick him up and he seems upbeat and happy to see us. Thank you, Eddie for always taking good care of my dogs.
