Tonight was probably my tenth time in a few years to eat here. Up until now, I loved it. Tonight was a disaster. The service was terrible. I was informed that we did not have«one» server because they were a family and everybody helps. Well the family must be dysfunctional. If you asked for something, like extra bread, they would run over to the computer and charge you, but you never got what you asked for. We had to ask over and over again. You would finish one course, wait forever and then beg someone to come over. I would like to point out that they were not busy at all! Unacceptable! When I paid I told the lady how unhappy I was. She thanked me and promised to talk to the family. Great, but she was one of the worst. A relative was there with a cute baby. All they did was talk to the mother and play with the baby. My son and I had taken my husband to dinner for Father’s Day. Thanks for nothing. I will never come here again. Thanks for ruining what should have been a nice evening.

Walking in to this restaurant was like taking a step into an oasis in a Moroccan desert! The details here are amazing and really make a difference. It was a true Moroccan experience. The baclava was delicious as well as the other deserts. I don’t recall the name of my entrée, but I do remember it was a chicken dish with a pastry on the outside that tasted similar to a funnel cake. It was very different and delicious. Friendly servers.

I had the lamb shank with prunes, it tasted awesome. I was still hungry so I ordered the meat combo and the Moroccan chicken bites. All is good!

Moroccan chicken bites is a great appetizer. Crust is flaky and chicken and yogurt is delicious. Fair warning it takes about 20 min to make since it is made from scratch. The lamb kabab and lamb over rice are equally tasty, both are served on a bed of rice. Portions are quite large. The bakery section is worth checking out, the baklava is probably one of the best I’ve had in quite some time.

Tucked away in a strip mall off Wurzbach and Evers, this place has charm AND good eats! We stopped by just before the lunch rush and were given our choice of tables. Our friendly waitress recommended several selections, and then promptly served our drinks. I ordered the Lamb and Apricot Tajine with Saffron rice, and hubby ordered the Veggie Tajine with Saffron rice. We also ordered a ½ serving of Moroccon bread. My lamb was succulent, spiced perfectly, and fall-off-the-bone tender! I added some of my rice to the broth it came in, because I didn’t want to miss out on any of the goodness! I sopped up the remaining broth with the slightly sweet, warm Moroccan bread. The dried apricots were rehydrated in the broth and added a wonderful sweet touch to the dish. This was certainly one of the best lamb dishes I’ve ever tasted. Well done! Hubby’s veggie Tajine came with squash, potatoes, peas, carrots, and onions bathed in a flavorful broth. He followed my lead and added his rice to the broth to get every last drop of flavor. There were a number of tempting desserts available, but we were both so full we couldn’t fit them in, so we’ll be sure to save room next time we visit! We’re already looking forward to trying other selections! Thanks for a tasty meal, MB!

I stopped in on Mother’s Day, mom in tow, after hearing very good things for a long time. If you’re a lover of lamb, this is your spot. Kebab, kefta, liver, and merguez are among the several ways you can sate your lamb cravings, but if you’d rather something like chicken or fish, they have those on their menu as well. Our appetizer was a Moroccan-style hummus, which, rather than the pureed garbanzos common in other restaurants, is a spiced, stewed garbanzo dish. It’s a delicious take on one of my favorite dishes. For me, it was the Medina Meats Combo, with multiple lamb styles and some grilled chicken on a bed of saffron rice, as well as the pickled beets and carrots. All of my lamb had a perfect consistency, and the rice was a great accompaniment. For my mother, it was the lamb and roasted vegetable tajine, also with rice on the side. While my lamb was great, truly it is in the lamb tajine that Moroccan Bites excels. The stewed meat had a great balance of spices and an excellent consistency. Finally, we ended our meal with some desserts and an cezve of strong, spiced coffee. The baklava must have been great, as my mother refused to share, and I had a similar dessert made with shreeded phylo, pistachios, and honey, as well as a basboosa, a bar made with semolina and rosewater, a favorite flavor of mine. Desserts are also a high point of the restaurant, as there are ample choices in the pastry case and on the shelf. It seems worth going to Moroccan bites just for dessert and coffee or tea if you don’t feel like a full meal. The biggest downside to Moroccan Bites is that it is a bit too quiet. Some music, even if it was just being streamed, would not have made the foods better, but would have helped with the ambience. Also, the menu is incredibly diverse. There were a lot of things I was eyeing that I’ve heard great things about, but unfortunately the two of us only had so much room to put down. I expect to return very soon for something different, like the tajine with fruits or the chicken pastilla. So if you’re stopping in for a great meal or just dessert, this is definitely where it’s at. Guy Fieri wouldn’t lie to me.

Setting was very nice. Facilities and tables were clean. But after I came back from the restroom as the rest of my party was sitting down, the waitress didn’t return to take my drink order and brought their drinks before mine. We ordered our food and I asked for water along with it. She didn’t bring it to me for maybe 10 or 15 minutes, not the best service in my opinion. We got our food, which was not impressive at all to me. I had the lamb kebab with rice and Moroccan bread. The bread tasted like HEB brand hot dog buns. The lamb was dry and there was twice if not three times as much rice as there was lamb. I was not satisfied and would not recommend going there again, nor would I go myself.

Delicious food… order the lamb! I had the the lamb and vegetables and just so happened to score the rice and bread even though it is only supposed to come with one of your choice. The lamb is extremely tender… as it was my first Moroccan experience I didn’t really know what to expect, but in a sense it tasted like my grandmother’s pot roast — which is phenomenal! I started off with a side salad which was nothing out of the ordinary, but it was refreshing and the dressing was simple and tasty. I also ordered the mint tea based on Unilocal reviews and was not at all disappointed, a small was plenty for one person and it stayed hot throughout my entire meal, it was great to both start and finish the meal. My server was also extremely friendly and accommodating. The only reason for the 4 stars is simply the atmosphere. I went on a Monday evening and half of the restaurant was closed, there were numbers on the tables, and it was just a quiet place. Not at all a trendy place to go out with friends, it’s strictly about the food, which I respect — but in the future I’ll just get takeout.

This place deserves five stars because of its phenomenal service and outstanding food. While I have never been to Morocco, I get the sense I’ve traveled there when I walk in. You are immediately greeted by either the daughter of the owner, or the owner herself. The daughter or her mom are more than willing to answer any and all questions you have. The mother is fascinating and you can’t help but fall in love with her as much as her restaurant. She speaks five languages. She clearly is educated and came to the states and opened a restaurant. She has great customer service skills and I’ve felt inspired by her. Now the food. We ordered the lamb shanks with prunes, the medina meat combo, and the Madghout with saffron rice. All was amazing the medina meat combo was exactly what you expected, but I won’t get it again simply because the other dishes are so good. The lamb shank with prunes was my favorite. It was full of flavors that were layered between a subtle sweetness from the prunes, but a salty full of spice flavors. The broth was fatty from the lamb and the lamb was so tender. No knife needed. The lamb fell off the bone. The Madghout was also very tender. This was more of a tomato based stew. The lamb was tender and the stew broth was thick and full of flavor. Lastly, their saffron rice was very good and goes oh so well with the brothy dishes. This place can’t come better recommended. A great find in San Antonio. Frankly, I’m still surprised to have found this gem in San Antonio.

Awesome dinner tonight at Moroccan Bites. I had their famous cuscus with vegetables and lamb and believe me it is amazing. First of all the cuscus it’s so moist, the vegetables like carrots, potatoes, summer squash and turnips are cooked just right and last the succulent lamb that’s just seasoned right and is so tender. This is one my favorite restaurant that I visit on a regular basis and the owners are friendly and always willing to please you. Good job!

I came here because of Guy Fieri and I was expecting a really flavorful meal. I have to say it was just ok. I ordered the Morroccan couscous with lamb. The lamb had a wonderful texture, incredibly tender but I felt it was lacking some seasoning overall for the money and my expectations it was just sort of bland. Maybe the other dishes with lamb are more of an explosion of taste. I think this place would make for a really interesting date and the desserts look fantastic! I had the mint tea, it’s very sweet but also super comforting, I definitely recommend it.

Nice restaurant. People are very friendly. Good/reasonable prices. Pretty good selection on the menu even for vegetarians. Recommend you check it out with family/friends. Can eat outside or inside. In a plaza, plenty of parking. Tried the lamb shank with prunes and lamb kebob sandwich — personally enjoyed the sandwich a bit more :)

Update: came again for a birthday dinner party. The appetizers were awesome. The carrots were surprisingly delicious(really great herb mix). Bread was warm and soft with a nice crust(unlike last time). I wanted to be adventurous and ordered the chicken pastilla. It’s super weird. The chicken is sweet and it was wrapped in phyllo dough and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. If you don’t want to eat breakfast for dinner — avoid this item. A friend bought me their macarons which I liked so I came here to get dinner. I got the kefta tagine with Moroccan bread. It was tasteless and a little dry. But I’ve never had Kefta before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. It just wasn’t for me. My friend and I also got the mint tea. It was super sweet and left a weird aftertaste in my mouth. It was served in a cute little tea set though. Service and ambience overall were great. There are roped off areas that you can reserve for parties. They looked like a ton of fun. The décor was really cool. Overall, a neat little place to try but I probably wouldn’t go back.

The food here is pretty good. My husband and I came here when we heard Guy Fieri was here and that the place was Zagat rated. Naturally we set some pretty high expectations but unfortunately, it was a hit or miss with the food. I did my research before going and everyone on Unilocal was screaming Chicken Pastilla and yes, it was definitely amazing! Make sure to order it right when you get there as it takes about 25 minutes to prepare. If you’re wondering what in the heck it is, it’s shredded chicken and a nut paste(I think almonds and cashews, could be wrong) stuffed inside a phillo dough that’s been dusted with powdered sugar and cinnamon. I may not be making it sound great, but it is SO good. And very unique in terms of flavor — definitely a must try. The Kebob combo was okay. Nothing fabulous. I’ve had better kabobs elsewhere, so I wouldn’t bother ordering it again. It was a combination of chicken, lamb, and beef. The chicken was bland, the lamb was tender but light in terms of flavor, and the beef had a unique flavor that I didn’t much care for(my husband liked it though) The mint tea at the end is something I do recommend! It was fabulous! The first sip was a little surprising but it gets addicting pretty quick! All in all, I recommend the place but do your research before ordering unless you’re well seasoned in Moroccan cuisine.

Disclaimer: This is the first time I’ve had Moroccan food, so I am by no means an expert. That being said, Moroccan Bites was absolutely wonderful! The outside isn’t much to look at, but immediately upon entering you feel like you’ve stepped into a completely different place. The ceilings are fairly high, the hanging lamps and decorated pillars are gorgeous, and the decorations are very aesthetically pleasing. It seems to be a very authentic Moroccan food place, with very friendly staff, although service is a bit slow. As for the food, I ordered the Chicken Tagin with Vegetables and saffron rice(~12 $). It was absolutely delicious! The chicken was very tender, the vegetables were juicy and flavorful, and the combination of spices that they use really make the dish very unique. If you ask for hot sauce, they bring out a house special sauce that really adds that extra kick that brings the meal over the top.

Hummus and eggplant accompanied by mint tea started our evening here. Just wonderful! The flavor profile is absolutely unique! We shared chicken pastilla, lamb shank, and mixed kebab. The saffron rice was tasty. The meat dishes were seasoned perfectly. I would prefer naan khush, but the bread was nice enough. We finished the meal with baklava, both walnut and pistachio… just lovely. The décor is pleasant, the place is quite clean. The service was efficient. Definitely will repeat this experience!

Its been over a year since i was last there so i decided to go back again to try the items and see if i still liked this place as much as i did and boy it did not dissapoint! We started off with carrots in morrocan spices(it had a great citrusy flavor mixes in), a dish with eggplant, bell peppers, and spices(i think the name started with a z) and morrocan bread. Since these were appetizers, the portions were small but enough for the two of us while we waited for our main dish. We ordered a chicken pastilla which was out of this world!(i recommend ordering it as soon as you get there because it takes at least 25mim wait… Well worth it!) Even hours after i was still dreaming about how delicious it was! It had a mixture of chicken, ginger, spices, egg, almonds etc covered in a phyllo dough, which was flaky and light, covered in confectioner sugar and cinnamon. The dish had overall sweeter notes which blended incredibly well with the savoryness of the chicken and dough, while the cinnamon gave it the right amount of seasoning. To end the lunch, we had the pistachio baklava with shredded dough. I loved how crunchy and packed with postachios it was. It is great to see when places like this, with amazing food and staff thrive and still maintain their home-y feel. Since my last visit, the place has expanded and is about to open a new area with more delicious desserts. Also i thought it was really great to have the owner there overlooking everything. I again left the place wanting to try more things. Need to go back pronto!

Tired of frequenting Indian places around the Medical Center, I finally paid Moroccan Bites an overdue visit. Though not the most flavorful food I’ve ever had, this is as close to authentic Moroccan as it gets. The restaurant — part of an unremarkable shopping center — is quite beautiful inside. Upon entering, you can choose a table to your left(original property) or right(newly built extension), or ask to dine outside on one of several storefront tables. The left side includes 2 «VIP areas» that are heavily decorated and roped off from everyday use. While the first one sits near the front with abundant windows, the other appears more of an enclosed space located near the back. The right side — large, spacious, and very well appointed — houses yet more tables, not to mention a larger dessert case full of Moroccan baklava, basboosa, kenafa, and various cakes and pastries. Some may mistake the waitstaff here as short or impersonal; however in all honesty, they’re anything but. I attribute said dissatisfaction simply to customers who perhaps walk in expecting loud, «slapstick» Texas Roadhouse-style tableside service. That’s just not the vibe at Moroccan. Like I always say, treat/chat/joke with your servers like they’re family and, more often than not, they’ll follow suit, even calling you sweetheart too many times. [Is that a bad thing?] It’s simple social skills, really. Again, the food ultimately is NOT the most flavorful nor amazing food I’ve ever come across… and just because Guy loved it doesn’t mean I have to feel obligated to likewise praise. Yet I will say that nothing disappoints, save for portion sizes maybe. In the spirit of another Unilocaler, for the money you dish over by meal’s end, you can’t help but wonder if your stomach — and taste buds — are genuinely THAT satisfied. Still give this San Antonio gem of North African cuisine some Texas-sized business! Long as you order within reason, your savory appetizer or steamy tagine or mint tea should justify the total bill.

OK, so after my disappointing visit to a Triple D recommended place in Memphis, I thought I would give Guy(Fieri) another chance. He totally redeemed himself with this suggestion. I really enjoy Moroccan food and generally find it to be the best of the Middle Eastern cuisines. Having said that, on my last visit to Tangier in January I was disappointed with what I ate there. So it was a great surprise to find a place in San Antonio that serves better food than in Morocco itself. I ordered the Shrimp Peel Peel Tagine and my coworker a Chicken Tagine both were outstanding. We also ordered the famous mint tea and it was exactly like in Morocco. For dessert we had some Briouats and Chebakia, I have no idea how they are able to make them so good, they are actually better than what I had shipped from Morocco. This an awesome place with some great home cooked cuisine — a must try.
