Not open anymore! And the telephone number is not in service! We went to check it out and the place looks abandoned

I came by my love of Indian and Asian spices and food when I lived in India and SE Asia for 5 years. I found Masala Wok in San Antonio while looking for vegetarian food and liked it so much I had dinner there 3 times in one week and also looked up one in Sugar Land when I came home. I like that you pick the sauce and then what meat/non meat you want to add, spiciness and type of rice/Nan. The food is flavored very well. My favorite is the Spinach Masala with Paneer. My son tried the Southern Curry with chicken and the green curry with shrimp. The rice is great, not clumpy like other restaurants and the egg fried rice is my favorite. The sauces are not as intense as conventional Indian food restaurants which I also like but a little lighter and great for every day. The vegetable egg rolls were also good, crispy with a good sweet sauce for dipping. I also appreciated the delivery option — the first time I ordered from them they delivered to my hotel.

Over all, the staff was absolutely wonderful and recommending what I should get. I wish they had more of a selection, but I like what they did with having multi-nationality foods. Everything tasted as if it were prepared fresh and had a decent taste. One of the biggest things that prevented me from rating five stars, was I wish I could have chosen my spicy level on the Indian dish. Highly recommend! Meal came to $ 12.xx with a drink and was plenty to fill me up.

Soooo yummy! Great staff and environment. We plan to go back many times. Their naan bread and chicken tikki masala was yum yum yum.

I went to Masala Wok in search of late night chicken vindaloo, my absolute favorite Indian dish. I ordered the samosa appetizer and garlic naan along with my entrée which all came out to 14.65. This is the same price that I would expect to pay at an authentic Indian restaurant. They don’t tell you that it’s a dollar more for the garlic naan so be prepared. The vindaloo was the worst I’ve ever had. The chicken was cooked in some creamy clam sauce that tasted nothing like the real dish. I love vindaloo for the super spicy red sauce and it was such a disappointment. The samosas were actually pretty good but the green sauce that it came with was not for me. The rice was the best part of the meal. I have a lot of leftovers but probably won’t touch them. It’s cool that they’re open until 11 but I would rather wait for Bombay Hall to open. I still need to satisfy my vindaloo craving.

Good food, but the entrees are slightly overpriced considering that for a dollar more you can eat your fill at an Indian buffet.

Cute restaurant, good service and delicious food! I tried the samosa chaat to start as recommended by the cashier and it was just yummy! Such great flavor! Then for my entrée I got the chicken tikka masala with naan and I’m going to tell you that this place is probably the best Indian food I’ve had in a long time! I used to eat Indian food all the time when I lived in Dallas but was never ever able to find one that compares in San Antonio and I kind of gave up. Well, I’m so very glad I found this place! It’s my new fav!

Today I tried Masala Wok for the first time and upon entering I was amazed by the aroma in this place. I knew I would be in for some good eating. The menu did offer a lot of variety so I did have a bit of a hard time deciding what I wanted. I was sold on the Hakka Noodles… I was impressed not only by the flavor but also the portion. Even though we did show up a little bit before closing the staff was very friendly and made sure they had the order correct. I will definitely be returning here and will be trying something different. Oh and fyi the Hakka Noodles were spicy so if you don’t like spicy food I would not recommend this item.

okay I will admit it… I do like this chain quite a bit when I am craving Indian food and don’t want to cook it! Yes not everything there is super authentic, the naan’s are bizarre in texture and taste, but you cannot beat this place for speed and freshness and there are a few things they do really well. The kebabs are generally so so, but the chicken lollipops are perfectly pulled chicken wings, crispy and tasty and the veg manchurian combines friend balls of veggies almost like pakoras tossed in a brown garlicky gingery soy sauce laced goodness that make for great eating. I find the classic menu a bit better than the stuff under traditional dishes. Spinach masala has always been good, but the one dish I go there for is the Southern Curry chicken! This is seriously as good as stuff in India. Imagine a curry with the pop of mustard, coriander and cumin laden with gently warming spices like clove, cardamom and cinnamon all brought together in a coconut gravy that just makes your mouth water as you are smelling it! Yeah! That! I generally take this home and made some basmati rice or eat it with a nice crusty loaf of french baguette! Try it .you will thank me for it. Oh. and the vindaloo while not authentic, is much better than stuff in other Indian places.

I order from this restaurant through the deliver-ring and I love it! I recommend the Korma, but the steamed vegetables with rice are so good! I’ve never been disappointed with it, a delightful I’d recommend it to anyone who likes Indian food.

10PM on a Friday night, husband wants Chinese and I’m craving something soupy, ran across this on the ol’ Unilocal app and were quite impressed with the place. Having the option of Indian food or Chinese food is a delicious idea! Upon walking in you notice the huge menu behind the cashier and it’s a bit daunting, but pretty much everything up there sounds delicious. We went with the Chicken Tikka Kabob appetizer, it was perfectly marinated, grilled, seasoned and had a wonderful hit of fresh cilantro. My entrée was the Lamb Curry which was one of the best lamb curries I’ve ever had, the lamb was insanely tender in a fantastic curry sauce. Husband ordered the Sesame Chicken which had this perfect sweet sesame smell to it, and it tasted very fresh and flavorful. We noticed a few of the other patrons were Indians speaking Hindi, which speaks for how great Masala Wok does up Indian food.

Nice one !!! Food veggies option and superb ‘rasmalai’ the best !!! I had personally good opinion for masala wok but with my friends it wasn’t so super, one of my veggie friend got chicken piece in between paneer . So i m going to give second chance to this one but looks like i need to be cautious: P

I like this place, Ive visited a couple of different Masala Woks and this one is of the same standard. Bottom line: Order the Thai Fried Rice with a side of the Tikka Sauce it is more than worth the 50 cents. Do some DIY asian fusion while at this asian fusion spot and you wont regret it. Chicken 65 is tasty as well. Veggie options like the chickpeas are also pretty good, quick and cheap.

Went here for the first time ever on a day trip to San Antonio. The lady working the front counter was very sweet and attentive, however the food was just gross. We were expecting something(quality-wise) along the lines of Genghis Grill or Pei Wei but it was not anywhere close. The only positive thing about the food was our appetizer of chicken lollipops. They were pretty good. I ordered the Sesame Shrimp with fried rice(which was a $ 1 up charge) and the shrimp were literally frozen bag quality(with the poopie vein still in them!) and there wasn’t a sesame seed anywhere on the dish… I couldn’t have been less impressed. My husband ordered a chicken noodle dish that the cashier warned him was VERY spicy. He said there was absolutely no flavor and no spice to the dish. I knew he wasn’t kidding because he is normally a garbage disposal and he didn’t even finish half of his meal. So yeah, skip this place! Don’t make the same«Oh hey, we’ve never been here so let’s check it out!» mistake.

Just like another reviewer noted, the food at Masala Wok is adequate. I wouldn’t say that it’s the best Indian food I have ever had in my life, but for being a «fast-casual» restaurant, the food was pretty tasty. Service was very good, the gentleman who took our order was patient and polite while the young lady who brought out the food and assisted us with questions was bubbly and friendly. You walk in, order at the counter, take your number, have a seat, and wait for your food to be brought to you. Trust me when I tell you that the other Unilocalers totally hit it right on the money with the chicken lollipops — they were delicious! I preferred the sweet dipping sauce instead of the spicy one since the spicy dipping sauce seemed more like a paste. The chicken 65 was super yummy. The first time I had chicken 65, it was way too spicy for me to even enjoy it. The rice had sort of a sweet floral flavor, not bad but the sweetness was unexpected. I felt that the portion of chicken tikka masala my lunch date had was a bit on the small side. It was also sweeter than what I’m used to. I am very curious to try out the grilled chicken tikka next time. And last but not least, the garlic naan was served in generous portions and was very delicious! They currently have a deal on Groupon, so if it’s your first time I would recommend taking advantage of that special offer. Otherwise, it is possible to keep your lunch cost below $ 15 by ordering one plate and one drink, and quite possibly a small appetizer. Oh and just an FYI, they do allow you to BYOB so you can PIMP out your meal with a nice glass of wine or bubbly. We will be returning soon :)

This is one of those places that if you can’t decide between Chinese and Indian, you’re in luck. Unfortunately, I made the rookie mistake of not following the clues directly in front of me. Whatever are you talking about? Oh, just the fact that the place was packed with Indians eating lunch… So what did I order? Chinese. My mistake. I had the«Mongolian» dish with steamed rice. The chicken was thinly sliced, lightly coated, and pan fried, making the outer crust a bit crunchy. The Mongolian sauce needed to have more of a punch as I found it quite weak. The bowl was overpowered by the tons of scallions they put in there. Enough is enough. It was excessive. My wife had the noodle & rice bowl. It came topped with a fried egg — a big bonus in my book. The noodles were of the pad thai variety and the rice was a very basic fried rice. The taste, again, was not very strong which surprised me coming from a restaurant owned and operated by Indians. The dish was average and, like my dish, needed to have a stronger taste. Let’s face facts… This place is a knock-off of Pei Wei. You walk up to the counter to place your order, get handed a number, and wait. Unfortunately, Pew Wei is better and at almost the exact same price. Given the option, Pei Wei gets my vote. But I will try this place again because, as previously mentioned, it was packed with Indians. I can only assume the must make some kick ass Indian cuisine. Best of luck to Msala Wok!

This place brings Indian Food into the Fast-Casual market. Looking for quick affordable Indian, this is your place. The food isn’t quite of Sarovar or Kohinoor(Little gem out on E-410) quality, but with meals that run you around $ 8 – 10 the value is hard to beat. Portion sizes were large without being too much, and having a Fast-Casual concept that isnt your run-of-the mill Sandwhiches, soup, and salad is nice. I had the Chicken Tikka, which was very tasty and blew the(overpriced) Tikka at Mela’s out of the water. Good flavor overall. Though the Naan that accompanied the dish, was a little underwhelming.

tl/dr: adequate fast Indian food. I went here today to use an expiring Google $ 10 for $ 20 offer. Since this was my first time here, I decided to order multiple dishes to gauge the quality. Here’s what we ordered to go: chicken lollipops, grilled chicken tikka, lamb goan vindaloo, chicken 65, paneer spinach masala, chicken butter masala and beef basil noodles. Except for the basil noodles and the chicken lollipops, the Indian entrees were served in well designed two-compartment trays. The rice and naan were in one compartment with the entrée in the other compartment. Definitely get the chicken lollipops. They are served with a sauce that is pretty addicting. All of us love saag paneer, so we were very disappointed with the paneer. It had the texture of firm tofu versus the silky soft paneer that we are accustomed to. But the masala spinach was very good. I’d order the spinach again, but without any additions(no paneer, no chicken etc). The lamb vindaloo was very tasty, although the lamb was a bit tough. The chicken 65 was nothing to write home about; it had none of the spice punch found in every other 65 I’ve ever had. It looked good, but lacked the kick we were expecting. The grilled chicken tikka was very flavorful, but dry. The chicken is served on skewers with the tikka sauce on the side; it made for a tasty wrap with the grilled onions and sauce. Order extra grilled onions. The butter masala was tasty. The beef and basil noodles were very good. Perfectly cooked noodles with adequate veggies and beef. and not at all greasy. All in all, I say Masala Wok has a great concept — fast Indian food. There wasn’t a single dish that was bad and a couple of the dishes were really good. SA has a lot of Indian buffets that range from good to better, and Masala Wok won’t put them out of business. However, they do an adequate job of decent fast food for under ten bucks. I’ll definitely keep this is mind if I’m stuck for time and can’t sit down for the buffets.

Though the Malai Kofta and Lamb Korma Masala were tasty, I got sick. Not terribly gut-wrenching sick, but sick nonetheless. Turns out, 3 other people from my office got sick, too. I will likely return in a few months, though I missed this past week’s Groupon. Drats.
