I decided to make an evening stop at Lowe’s to get some Fall weed & feed help for my lawn. It was fairly quiet when I went in as it often is at these types of businesses after dark. I’ve got to say it’s an interesting time of year. When else can you still find pest control and lawn care within a few steps of two big holidays? Tombstones, skeletons, ghosts and pumpkins just a few steps from snowmen, Santas and reindeer. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year. Oh, and I did get my weed & feed. Mission accomplished.

I went here last week with my mom in search of a new stove top. We’ve shopped at Lowe’s before and like that they give a military discount and provide installation services. We were fortunate enough to have one of the managers, Efran, help us out. He went through our different options with us and really took the time to answer our questions and help us find what we needed. We appreciate his help greatly! If you’re looking for a new appliance, come here and ask for Efran! He’s awesome!

At 1130am I was in Hardware, searching for an item I did not believe existed. Jon offered assistance, & redirected me to an area I would not have found, & I found what I needed. I don’t usually get offers of assistance when in these big hardware stores. I have also had good luck in their Garden Dept — they carry landscape bricking, varieties unmatched anywhere near here. They also have good early season plant varieties. Good store, in my experience.

The fridge in my rental house crapped out so I went on line to check what Lowe’s has there in Texas. Found a closeout Frigidaire 18cu/ft model that came with a free ice maker. I have purchased a fridge at my local Lowes out here in California so this was a no-brainier. What separates the folks here in TX and the ones out in Cali is the fact that Texans are always friendly, respectful and always willing to help!(get it, California??) This is my go to store when I am out here doing repairs and builds. It was the last day of the sale so I had to jump on it ASAP. Found the fridge. I clicked«buy» and it was done! Fast, painless and easy. I phoned the next day to make the necessary delivery arrangements. I asked for an early P.M. delivery. My rental is 55 miles away in Sabinal. No problem! STILL came with free delivery! The delivery driver phoned me right before he left SA to deliver the goods to let me know he was on the way. That is courteous! When he arrived he helped my father-in-law set up the fridge. He even brought the old one across the street to his house for him! THAT is how you do it, folks… are you listening California? Its always nice to speak with someone on the phone who responds«Yes sir, no sir, thank you sir»…good ‘ol Texas courtesy. Enough said! Thanx Lowes!

Went in for a light bulb … Also took a look at drapes(in the process of decorating my dining room). Light bulbs are easy to find, the aisle is straight in front of you as you walk in. On to the drapes; good assortment of colors and textures however I couldn’t find any 95in… Only 84. An employee asked if I needed help and I told him I was looking for the right mustard yellow or grey … He told me to check out Pinterest. What?! He didn’t even bother to suggest any of their products. On to the cashier; she didn’t say ‘hi’ or ask if I found everything I needed… The usual cashier/customer banter. She wouldn’t even make eye contact with me. I’m pretty sure she was miserable. No ‘thank you’ /‘have a nice day’ either. Yepp, definitely a miserable teenager.

Their job is to upsell, and nothing more. I have a lot of check-ins for this particular Lowe’s. With other options nearby, those check-ins are going to end. First the positives. Big clean store, as is the case in all Lowe’s. Well lit. Has a lot more«stuff» than Home Depot, bigger selections, more items. The prices are too good to ignore. People go to these«big box» home improvement stores for two reasons: Buy an item for home improvement and get advice on how to do the job. On the latter of those two, this particular Lowe’s fails. If you buy fairly expensive products, you expect some decent advice. The people in the departments are there strictly to upsell, that is, sell you items you may or may not need. They don’t know the products well enough to do that. I purchased a dishwasher. This Lowe’s didn’t have it in stock. They made me wait a week to get it, then when they delivered it, it looked like it had fallen out of the truck. One of the drawers wouldn’t slide open. It had to have been a display model. So they told me they could get the second dishwasher to my house in two days. I’m still waiting. If it’s another display model, I’m going to get my money back. I wasn’t sure how hard it would be to install it, because I had never done a dishwasher before. I asked their sales associate how hard was it to install a Bosch dishwasher? This guy tells me the installer would have to run new power lines, new hoses and I’d need to purchase new cables/hoses too. Totally false, the dishwasher comes with the water hoses. If they had sold me a Bosch power cable, the install could be done by anyone in less than 30 minutes. Which I did, and the new one is running right now. So I have to return the power cables, the hoses, and the install because their goal was to make a sale. They wasted my time and money on an unnecessary upsell. Either he was unaware of how the appliance worked or he works on commission. I’m not even going to tell you about my riding mower experience, and getting the cart they said was«free.»

Good for everything except decent lumber. Almost all the boards are warped and twisted. Gets pretty darn frustrating. Aside from that, the staff is helpful, it’s kept very clean and the prices are pretty reasonable.

They had the tools I need and they were easy to find. The only thing I didn’t like was the self checkout. Why go to a self check out and still need assistance from the Lowe’s associate. Why not just hire extra cashiers to get me in and out of your store.

Ordered a new oven and it arrived the next day. Delivery was free and they were prompt and professional. Really impressed us, we will shop at Lowe’s from here on.

I’m a regular!!! Often times, I wish I wasn’t, but when household issues arise, I can tell you I’m a cheap scape, that doesn’t like calling a handy man, plumber, roofer or what not… even though most of the time, my wife thinks different. Well, she is entitled to think what she wants, it’s a free country, there are crazy people all around us, walking free and among us too, but who notices. The best thing about doing the repairs myself is, I save the labor costs and often get new tools(toys) from doing the job myself. The bad thing is, I find myself taking 2 or 3 trips, if not more to Lowes because I needed this and forgot that, but my solution to this madness, is to just by each and every size of whatever you need and just return the items you did not use. The Lowes staff is always ready to assist and if you can’t find an available employee to help you, they have assistance buzzers in most isles to call for help.
