What a long and complicated history. Look it up on the internet, we found it fascinating. Two local breweries fighting it out for dominance in an early boom town. Pearl brewery and Lonestar brewery families had two strong willed patriarch who were constantly trying to outdo the other as the dominant force in the business of making and distributing beer. Many unique events resulting in both breweries stopping production in San Antonio. Luckily both are being restored, rehabbed, and repurposed so these historic sites won’t be lost.

Really, really great event venue! TONS of space, both for parking and for mingling at the event without feeling claustrophobic. Beautiful trees on the grounds. The building itself is closed to the public, but I would loveLoveLOVE to sneak inside and have a peek… is there still brewing equipment in place? Does it look like what the former Pearl brewing facility looked like before it was restored to full Southerleigh glory? Even in its decrepitness, it’s a thing of beauty. As much as I love the revitalized Pearl Brewery complex, I hope the same treatment is not given to Lone Star. We don’t need another fancy mixed-use campus — San Antonio NEEDS a great, spacious venue to draw major concerts and festivals. Make that happen HERE pleaseandthankies!

The National Beer of Texas! This is the old site for the Lone Star Brewery. They’re not currently making Lone Star here anymore. But this place hearkens back to the good ol’ days of drinking the National Beer of Texas in the sun! They are turning this place into a bunch of condos, restaurants, and places to play and hang out. This used to be a sprawling industrial complex, but they have big plans for what they’re planning to do to turn this into a great place! I went here for the Lone Star Beer Festival, and had an amazing time! It’s a great place for a party, and a wonderful place to check out the music. Parking can be a bit challenging, since they don’t let you park in their huge parking area for some reason, and there’s no parking along Lone Star Blvd. I hope to see this place restored to its former glory!

What a great place for a concert. Went for the Lonestar Brewery Bash. The grounds are perfect for festivals. There were different areas set up for music so no waiting for musicians to set up. Ample parking that is FREE. They even had a biergarten area to watch the game that was on that night. Can’t wait to see the revitalization of this beautiful venue.
