I love the architecture of this Jim’s. It has a bit of that feel of the restaurant in Pulp Fiction. We were seated promptly and the waiter took our order soon after. The food arrived quickly. The tortilla soup was good but the tortilla strips were stale. The eggs, hash browns, and sausage was tasty. Our waiter, Jerry, sang us some 50’s doo wop songs. It was a unique experience and something I won’t forget for a while.

Over half an hour later I’m still waiting for my to go order. Soup shouldn’t take half an hr? Should it? Skip it and hit the IHOP down the street its all the same generic American food menu… :(

Wasn’t a good night. It took a while to be acknowledged and seated. Once seated, it took another while to have our order taken. During this time, one couldn’t help but see no one was keeping up with cleaning off the tables. Our server seemed a bit disoriented. Wrote our order on a napkin. When she delivered our food 40 minutes later, she gave it to the table across from us. I had to call her over to let her know it was ours. Most of the servers looked new and it was very chaotic and disoriented. Shouting to each other about stuff. The poor manager looked beyond stressed. She was working in the kitchen and then would run out and clear tables. Not a very good night.

My kids love having breakfast for dinner. They give crayons and placemats you can color. The servers are sweet but slow, so please don’t be in a rush. The food is ok, but the ambiance is great. Better than Denny’s and IHOP. BTW The Tortilla Soup is on point

Mixed feelings about this Jim’s. The female manager is just awesome, she goes out of her way to help! The food is good, however it takes quite a while to get it. The reason I give it 3 instead of 4 or 5 stars is the constant forgetfulness of the wait staff. A few times, when I go there with friends, at least 1 of us never gets served, or we get served after everyone is done, and we are no longer wanting to eat. On top of the tardiness of the meal, it usually appears slapped together at the last minute and quite sloppy, and rather unappealing. The reason I keep the rating above 2 stars is the manager, she has been gone out of her way to help me personally. I was in Jim’s, with friends, but,(here’s the kicker) I forgot my wallet. She bought me my dinner. That was above and beyond!

On vacation with the family and was looking for a brunch type place on the way to the zoo. We had seen a couple of these jim’s places and decided to stop. Food was great, price was fair, service was good. Thanks!

Just sat here 25 minutes before anyone would even acknowledge my existence and offer me a drink. They’re not terribly busy, a lot of empty tables. Not the first time this has happened, either. When I finally got the hostess’s attention again, she acted perplexed and wanted to know who sat me there. «Umm… it was you,» I had to remind her. Then my waitress tried to feed me some line of bullshit about not noticing me because the table wasn’t clean, and I’m like«It’s your section, you’re the one who’s supposed to clean it, you know, just like that other table you cleaned for those people over there who arrived 15 minutes after me but already have their food.» And now… another customer is telling me the same exact thing just happened to him. What the hell is wrong with these buffoons? As if it’s not enough that the food is processed shit from a Sysco truck. Jeezus. They could at least try to make _some_part of the Jim’s experience pleasant. That ain’t all. Last time I was here, I ordered chicken-fried chicken(from a chicken-fried server) with green beans, mashed potatoes, and white gravy. So they brought me chicken-fried steak. With corn, and ice-cold potatoes covered in – I swear to god I’m not making this up – white salad dressing. It took them a couple more tries to get the order right, and there was no offer to compensate or otherwise make amends. So back to tonight… Now my food has arrived, but once again they’ve brought me the wrong vegetable. I ordered broccoli, but this appears to be mixed vegetables from a canned ration, circa World War II. Carrots and peas and lima beans, except the peas and beans are pale gray instead of green. Also, instead of an apology or offer to comp, they are attempting to upsell me on apple pie.

Really really good food. And our waitress was amazing! This was our first visit here and she was very nice, accommodating and explained the menu. Even though we didn’t order it, she brought out tortilla soup which is what they are known for. So yummy. Best restaurant visit so far.

I don’t know what all the low scores are about. Jim’s doesn’t bill itself as fine dining. What it does provide is an inexpensive good meal in a clean atmosphere. What more can you expect from a local diner chain. It beats the rest of the restaurants in its class to shame.

Oh, Jim’s. I’m not sure I can compare it to any other breakfast spot I’ve ever eaten. It’s sort of one of a kind. Definitely better than Ihop or Denny’s, but not always the most creative or enticing menu. When you’re in the mood for straightforward American breakfast that you could cook at home but don’t feel like cooking, Jim’s is a solid option. Plus, tacos, migas, and huevos rancheros are still on the menu so you can get those too. Where Jim’s is a big time winner is the biscuits category. Hands down, the fluffiest, freshest, warmest, crumbliest biscuits I’ve had in SA and definitely not to be missed. The hash browns are impressive too– served old diner style in a pile of thinly sliced potatoes. Wonderfully crispy and carbalicious. Service can be questionable. Most recently, I ordered a cinnamon roll and our server responded, «Okay, so you want a danish?» Umm… but…the menu says cinnamon roll, so I’m just reading what’s written in front of me. It was weird.

I have eaten at the Jim’s in the 9900 block of San Pedro several times and have been pleased with the food. I ate there yesterday and it was really bad. The meatloaf my wife ordered was mostly bread and sooo salty. The broccoli was just bland. My pork chop was tasty but I had to spit our several small pieces of bone. My cole slaw was just shredded cabbage and no dressing or taste. The coffee was strong and tasted like it was from yesterday’s breakfast. They must have changed cooks or something. I won’t go back.

It may be unfair to give a bad rating to a place based on one visit where we walked out after being unable to get service. But, since I’m willing to give five-star reviews to places after a single great visit, it seems reasonable to give a restaurant one star for awful and unacceptable service. My wife and I had yet to visit a Jim’s since moving to San Antonio. We decided to give it a shot for a breakfast, and at first we were charmed. It seemed a clean place for good, cheap food. We were seated, then the ignoring started. Servers walked past us repeatedly playing the I’m-averting-eyes-because-if-I-acknowledge-them-I’ll-have-to-wait-on-them game. People got seated after us and received service, but we were invisible. The hostess and a person busing tables also walked past us more than once and took no notice of two people sitting with menus and trying to make eye contact with any employee who’d care. Finally, after 12 minutes we flagged one of the passing waiters and asked him to send a server to our table. Two minutes later we still were waiting, so we abandoned the place. On the way out I told the hostess we were leaving because we never got service, and instead of apologizing she gave me a look like I was rude for having said anything. We ended up eating across the street at a fast food restaurant. The food wasn’t very good there, but the counter person not only greeted us and took our order, she also told us to have a nice day as we left. I’m sure we’ll give a different Jim’s another try, but the staff of the Jim’s on Hildebrand and San Pedro worked so hard to ignore us that I don’t think we’ll be visiting that location any time soon.

If you’re from San Antonio, chances are you’ve eaten at Jim’s at least once, but probably many times. And with good reason, it’s darn good. This location is great, lots of regulars. I was impressed on a Saturday morning at how many of the customer’s names the servers seemed to know. Even though Jim’s have become a full-on local chain, that dedication to their customers shouldn’t go unnoticed. The food is great. Diner-style selections that rarely disappoint. We all know the menu, have probably eaten it many times(some of those times we may not even remember since most locations are open 24 hours and a splendid choice after a night on the town) and it’s one of those old standards that is always good. This locations is also, no smoking, which is a serious plus.

I had ate here several times when I was in college and was up late studying, never really thought much of it. We went late on Friday night and their special of the day was«fried fish» I said why not, I’ll give it a try. It was actually really good and flavorful. I was surprised. I have had fried fish in «upscale restaurants» that has tasted so bland, this outdid them! My friend had the tortilla soup, she ate it up so I assume it was good! Definitely give them a try!

Service care of Rhonda was fantastic. 5 stars for service. The food was just so-so. The bacon was not very crispy. The over easy eggs were REALLY easy. Too much liquid egg whites. The hot cocoa was a big winner though. If you are looking for breakfast in a Denny’s-like environment, then Jim’s will suit you just fine. Especially if you sit on Rhonda’s section.
