yes, Yes, YESSSSSSS! The fella and I have been actively searching out the authentic Italian ice that we remember from our youths on the East Coast. After many places with an «eh, not so much» result — good though they may be, raspas, shaved ice, sno-cones, FroYo, and ice milk are absolutely not the same as Italian ice — we were finally able to catch up with J&K(it’s a truck) last night at Main Plaza, and our search is now happily, deliciously, OVER(I could bust out a Journey song right now, I’m so stoked about this! :)) I don’t know how they do it, but J&K absolutely nails the silky, creamy texture of real-deal Italian ice, and said silky ice grips the flavor like nobody’s business — you can finish any size serving without wondering why all the flavor ran out into the bottom of your cup and what you’re going to do with the Boulder of ice left at the top. They do have a sizeable menu of flavors available, but once I saw that the traditional cherry and lemon were there, I was mostly too busy stuffing my face to note much of anything else, much less snap a photo.(The Mangonada nod to South Texas tastes is a pretty cool option though) Sizing is super generous — my $ 3 small was equivalent to about 3 scoops from any ice cream shop. They seem to hang out at Travis Park and Main Plaza quite a bit, but basic scheduling info is on their Facebook page and website.(I gotta add kudos to their owner/management for that — I was having trouble finding that info on my own, messaged them here on Unilocal, and received a response within minutes… unexpected and sooo appreciated!) J&K is now my go-to for frozen treat cravings, and a permanent fixture on my food truck stalking rounds.
