This was the first in a series of small Elite events that Tomas will be holding in order to solicit input from the SA Unilocal community to find out what we want to see from Unilocal in SA. Of course you don’t have to wait as Tomas is welcome to ideas from Unilocalers anytime!!! This was a very nice event. Whiskey Cake treated us very well. The food and beverages just kept coming. It was nice to hear about the Whiskey Cake philosophy. Was interesting to hear what kinds of things other Unilocalers want in future events. All of the food was very delicious. My favorites were the Goat Cheese and the Hummus. The goat cheese had sun dried tomatoes and olives to blend in and the hummus had both raw and roasted garlic. Was a most fun brain storming session. Thank you very much Tomas and Whiskey Cake.

You really gotta love it when you get to try a place that not only has an impressive dining environment but phenomenal food on top of it all. As a proud Unilocaler, I do my best to look for places that support local; however, I totally failed at looking into Whiskey Cake. And I’m both happy and sad about that. Happy because I more than enjoyed the offerings that Tom and his crew at WC served us and sad because I didn’t go any sooner. Well, this visit corrected all that nonsense! I’m not a huge duck fan; however, their wings were mouthwatering. As was the goat cheese fondue! The cheese wasn’t ‘gamey’ tasting — it was well-blended and melt in your mouth. As Tom suggested, make sure to mix it with the accompanying olives & tomatoes and you got yourself a winner. I think one of my favorites was the 3 Little Pigs pork sliders though. Fork tender & juicy and visually served on a brick! Think of that childhood story, The Three Little Pigs because this little sucker will blow your house in! And of course, the showstopper: the WHISKEYCAKE. Spiced pecans, toffee, bourbon… You really can’t go wrong with it. I was again sad that I had to share it. I mean… seriously??? I had the huge slice served in front of me and was wondering when everyone else was gonna get their piece… Just sayin. Anyhooters, Tomas, thank you very much for giving us this opportunity to enjoy some of what WC has to offer. I will definitely be returning in the future. The atmosphere was perfection and I just couldn’t have asked for a better way to start my week!

The food was perfect — the ambiance was perfect — the company was perfect!!! This was an all-around solid, albeit intimate, Elite event where we were encouraged to share our thoughts, ideas and input while in the presence of some of the most amazingly delicious nibbly bits & bevvy’s ever! Whiskey Cake(Tom Moon more specifically, special thanks by the way!) most definitely did an EXCELLENT job of hosting /walking us through every dish(of which there were plenty) from Thai duck«wings» to their decadent adult macaroni & cheese and of course their namesake… whipped-cream-and-nut-topped whiskey cake — every single dish was so overwhelmingly mouthwatering! We even got to sample some French-pressed coffee to end our dinner with a little night-cap. Everything from service to interior décor was completely on-point. I love the layout of the restaurant and the«farm-chic» ornamentation throughout. The open kitchen and spotless, modern-esque bathrooms to the variety of different seating areas are merely an added bonus. To add even more romantical appeal, at exactly sundown, the lights dim significantly and the shades automatically lift up to reveal a truly genuine view of La Cantera and the surrounding scenery. You can’t put a price tag on that y’all! And last, but most certainly not least, to our new CM Tomas — it was great finally getting to meet you and if this is any foreshadowing as to what you have in store for us, the puro San Anto Unilocal community… then we have a LOT to be excited about!!! I’m already planning my next visit to Whiskey Cake and you definitely should too!

Firstly, let’s give a five star shout out to the name of this establishment. If you don’t like whiskey or cake, your mama needs to have a stern talk with you and your priorities in life are severely misaligned. We were able to sample a few yumtastic items off the menu. I’m going to be honest and say that I really liked the whipped cream and had both serving bowls delivered or retrieved right back to me. The whiskey cake was a very close second. Warm, moist, decadent… None of the whipped cream I had made it on top of the slice I had though. Just straight amazing whipped cream. The food is awesome. I don’t need to talk further about it. Ops Mgr Tom Moon went into the sourcing of the yums — as local and fresh as possible. I’m talking farmers market etc. You will pick up on how seriously they are about repurposing and being good to Mama Earth too — the coasters are repurposed boxes and even the aesthetics have recycled items that look totally amazing. Thank you so much Tomas for organizing this and inviting a few of us to discuss this thing called Unilocal while stuffing our faces and sharing some laughs. I also appreciated my designated head of table seat.(Feel free to continue placing me there in the future — it makes my ego even bigger.). I had a great time and this new temp Unilocal neck tattoo is really getting rave reviews!

Really great time sampling the pre-set menu. Every item was delicious and surprising. I’m not a goat cheese or duck fan but both dishes were mouth-watering. Our host, Tom Moon explained all the dishes and their local origins including their own herb garden located at the entrance to the restaurant. Thanks Thomas for a great, culinary event and for thinking local!
