City of San Antonio Solid Waste Management

Who doesn’t love it when you have someone to pick up your mess. This time I’m not speaking about a therapist but rather the lovely company who oversees our waste management in San Antonio. I love how we, as a city, recycle and have designated recycle bins to utilize. These lovely lads are my alarm clocks twice a week and help me save energy by not needing to use electricity two mornings a week. I simply leave out my waste weekly which includes poor decisions of fast food and takeout– in designated bins then voila! The trash is gone as long as I can meet them halfway and leave it out at least once a week on the days they play «pick up my waste game». These folks are magical creatures who rid the evidence of smelly and sticky situations to keep my place smelling fresh. They definitely deserve some love and respect. Thank you guys!

With today being Earth Day, I thought I would post a review on how our city is going green. I consider myself a Green Person; only because it does save money once you get started. When I first saw the two big carts in my driveway I thought to myself «oh boy this is going to hassle». Another thought I had was that this should be good, and will encourage us to recycle more. I did think the old green recycling containers were not as helpful, cause they would get full fast. After a couple of weeks of using the two container system I started to notice that we are recycling more and throwing less in the trash. With the big blue container for recycling its easy to break down boxes and put them to be recycled. The smaller blue container that was given to us also makes it easier to sort the recyclables from the thrash. I noticed In my neighborhood that other households are recycling more. I see more blue containers out, then what I used to see green ones. I know that using the two cart system is going to save the city money and time; so it can be spent on more essential stuff. I do like the fact that we still have brush days twice a year. Brush days really come in handy for when we do upgrades to the house, or clean out the garage.
The only problem that I have with the two container system; is what to do with leftovers that don’t get eating. What If I have some food to throw on Monday night, and pick up is not till next week? Hate a smelly thrash can in my garage, and my HOA does not let us keep them outside. I’m still trying to figure out the best legal solution for that problem. I gave 4 stars to the city of San Antonio Solid Waste Management; come on its waste management not a restaurant. Happy Earth Day!
