Hallelujah and amen! Tacos are great and all but sometimes you just need some greasy fried chicken. When you’ve worked up an appetite walking all over this evolving neighborhood and you’ve already had your fill at the ‘best’ restaurants in a 3 mile radius, okra and chicken might be what you need to satisfy your fat girl craving. I’m not sure of the health dept scores this place has, nor do I want to ask. All I know is that it’s in the cut when you’re done hanging out in Southtown and you’ve had your fill of craft cocktails and fusion ceviche. I hope this Churches never leaves. As the neighborhood changes with rapid speed it’s good to see remnants of cheap eats hang around. Not everything needs to be vegan soul food/organic lamb balls/free range lettuce… etc.

I wasn’t impressed by Churches Chicken. Everything was frozen before they plopped it in the fryers. The fries seemed to be an arbitrary amount, just a handful or whatever. The chicken had freezer burn. The toppings on the chicken sandwich were limp and seemed like they’ve been sitting out for a while. It wasn’t too clean, lettuce on the floor. No air conditioning, save a big fan that blew my napkins all over the place. The cashier acted like they could care less if I was there, in fact they seemed put out that they had to stop staring off into space in order to get me a handful of french fries. Not impressive.
