The Christopher Columbus Society puts on a great Spaghetti dinner. A great meal for $ 8.00. Once you have your ticket, you are seated at one of the large tables. First comes the salad. After a while, your delicious plate of pasta and meatballs arrives. Amazing flavors. Don’t forget to buy your cannolis and biscotti while you are waiting for your dinner. They tend to sell out fast. A lot of people brought their pots from home to fill up with spaghetti and meatballs. Mangia!

Did you know that San Antonio has a real«Little Italy»? Well we found it today… A couple of years ago, I read an article in the local paper talking about what is going on in the area, the history of the area, and it all sounded really interesting so I have been wanting to visit when they had a dinner. I have been to Italy twice and I do plan to go back again… Carnival Ball in Venice is a Dream Trip on the Bucket List. The original plan was for two Unilocalers to meet up and we ended up having a table of eight. It was a great day with the Unilocal family! When you arrive, you walk down into the basement to purchase your $ 8 meal ticket at the first table. You walk a little further to where the hostess will seat you. You then go to the bar for your drinks: bottled water, sodas, beer, and wine. $ 4 for Chianti. Once your party is complete and sat, the hostess will take your tickets. A short time later, trays filled with small iceberg dinner salad with bread arrive followed by a huge plate of spaghetti with two large meatballs. Families surrounded us. An older gentleman provided live piano entertainment. Home made desserts were also available for purchase. $ 3.50 cannoli. Oh… CCIS offers free Italian language classes. Check their website or call them for more information… Ciao Bella!

Completely enjoyed the experience! The spaghetti dinner was reasonably priced(a salad, a heaping plate of spaghetti w/two meatballs & bread) and tasted well. The desserts were varied and like Carol, my partner in crime & I tried a cannoli and a slice of what was called«praline cake”(?) The question mark is because it didn’t seem the ladies who worked the table didn’t even know what to call it but they were trying it and the comments were really nice. So of course, we had to get a slice. From what we gathered it was comprised of spice cake, pralines, coconut, and cinnamon and I really want that dang recipe. When you enter, there is at least one gentleman seated to the left for ticket purchases(unless you bought ahead of time). We told him we were meeting our group and he told us we were welcome to see if our party was there before buying a ticket. That way, we wouldn’t be stuck with tickets if our friends weren’t available. How considerate! The bar sells sodas and wine(Coke, Diet Coke, bottled water, etc) for $ 1.50 and close by the bar was this really cool guy playing an upright piano. Someone even joined in and started singing with him. It was definitely lively for a Sunday afternoon, that’s for sure! Parking — be warned. Even though we met at 1PM, there were quite a few people coming in and out(bringing food to go, meeting family & friends, etc). The street can accommodate some vehicles; however, the building has two parking areas. The main one which is right next to the CCIS and the other in the back behind that.
