China City Buffet

Nothing fancy at all and nothing to brag about. I have been a waiter at a Chinese Buffet so I can relate to how difficult it is to earn tips. Much of the tip is probably based on the quality of the food. Lucky for the staff today, I’m not basing my 17% tip on the food.
Service was lackluster but not hostile. The host was on his cell phone when I entered and I suppose he expected me to just follow him when he left the counter but since he hadn’t acknowledge my presence I stood at the counter until he came back for me then signaled with his hand to follow him. Strike one.
The sushi had only about 6 – 8 selections and almost all had a healthy dose of Cajun spice sprinkled on top. Some of the pieces were very spicy and not in a good way. I didn’t try the Mongolian grill items and neither did anyone else.
Swing and a miss.
The buffet was also limited in selection and everything appeared pale or lacking color to the dish. The flavors were similar in taste with the most unique being the chunks of fried fish being catfish. I know catfish and this was not very good catfish.
The server asked me once if I needed a refill and she removed my used plates quickly but no rapport or small talk and I was sitting alone. The price was under $ 10 for buffet and a drink so that’s decent but if they had charged more I would have given them a third strike for overpriced.
All in all, I’d eat here again in a pinch but would not recommend it nor will I come back anytime soon. I don’t see it getting better since they don’t seem concerned with customer retention or service innovation. The place feels outdated and the food is boring
Hopefully they will improve.

It was ok. Staff was very quite. The place is huge. Has nice selection, just wish it had a Lil more. The sushi was mediocre. Next time I know.

Food was not very good. Was very greasy and seem like it had been sitting out for a while. AND the restroom was totally gross!!! Dead roach in the corner, feces on the toilet seat in one of the stalls, water all over the counter where the sink is and trash can over flowing onto the floor with paper towels. I definitely would not go back.

I went to this restaurant for lunch the food looked old the hostess did not do a good job. I will not be back at this restaurant and this place was overpriced

The food was disgusting, old, bad smelling, not fresh and the fruit tasted like soap. I have came here once before and did not like it and today I took my mother for a second try and the food was outrageously disgraceful. We had an upset stomach and both went to the restroom. I do not recommend this buffet to anybody. I demanded my money back! I do not give this any stars but I can’t post without selecting a star. But I give it a ZERO!

It’s very generic. The sushi selection is very cheaply done and the crab legs, which was me and my husbands heart set item, were overcooked to the point where they mostly tasted like water. Their «steaks» they offer are thin slices of beef so even if you ordered it medium, there’s no such thing. Even the meat selection for the hibachi grill is limited since what i thiught was chicken was actually pork. I would only recommend this place for a lunch value, but not dinner.

Tried this place out for pickup. Two orders of fried rice. One beef and one shrimp. The orders were huge, definitely could have shared one. They were quick and ready for us within 10 min. The staff was super friendly and pleasant to chat with. We enjoyed the rice a lot and would definitely go back. The reason for the four stars is that we didn’t eat in or try a big variety of the menu to give a full review.

This is more of a review on the owners of the restaurant. I don’t reside in San Antonio and was looking for a place that could deliver a birthday lunch to my Mother. I had the hardest time trying to find a decent place to deliver and surprise my Mother and her co-​workers. I honestly did not think I’d have this hard of a time finding delivery to this area or having such an extremely limited selection. Although Chinese was not my first or second or third choice, they sure did pull through! The owner told me they did not deliver but when I told him my attempt to surprise my Mother and her co-​workers for her birthday… HE MADE AN EXCEPTION! He told me they do not deliver but he’d be willing to do it knowing I lived elsewhere and what my intent was! I thought that was pretty classy of him! So. although I can’t give an opinion on the food or buffet served (reason for 4 stars), this says a lot for me about the place! I intend on stopping by to say thank you when I’m in San Antonio again!!! Great way to show good business guys!!! When you have older parents, every birthday counts and knowing someone could help when you’re not around made it that much more of a need to write this review! THANKS A LOT FOR HELPING MAKE MY MOTHER’S 75TH BIRTHDAY THAT MUCH MORE SPECIAL!!! GOOD LUCK and thanks again!!!

Well… It’s a buffet. Like I mentioned in my tip, come during lunch for the cheaper prices and fast turnover of the buffet food. They offer a stir fry bar and sushi. Although sushi arriving to me a la buffet is never a good thing in my experience.
On the up side its a very large dinig room with a separarate area for parties. They have two TV’s playing sports and novellas. Wait staff is very attentive.
