I am soooo glad I tried this place. Now, I never, ever have to wonder again. So, this place was voted best burger in San Antonio? When? In the 1800’s? I swear I have had a better burger at Wendys, or Hardees. I ordered my cheeseburger with a few traditional toppings and also included bbq sauce. What I ended up getting was a slop fest of soggy, wet, super limp(esp the lettuce) toppings — on a dry, tasteless, bland, overcooked boring burger, encompassed by the most cracker — like bun with a million and one black poppy seeds. Yuck, just yuck! I hate, hate, hate, poppy seeds, so that made the whole burger experience extra miserable. We also ordered the fresh cut fries. I will say they were tolerable. The fries have a decent flavor and moderate saltiness, but are soggy and limp. The onion rings were good, heavily breaded and fried well, so they were extra crispy!!! The lady at the register did inform me that they are not made in house…(so frozen? prepackaged??). My daughter had a chili dog. I really wish I would have gotten that, as I could only tolerate about ½ of my burger. The chili looked good and it had a big slice of American cheese on it. Service was average, nothing super friendly. They do have a great beer selection! Interior is dive-ish and charming in a way. Love the roll up windows to allow the great weather in. Prices were average IMO. Seemed clean. Anyway… now I know and can just zip on by this place in the future.

Don’t waste your time here. The food is all frozen and poor quality. the buns have so many poppyseeds it taste like you are eating sand. Cheap frozen food and meat. Only positive is their craft beer selection but it’s only in bottles.

Good location, atmosphere, and its quite clean. The bacon cheeseburger was so good! I also order the fries and I did not really like it that much because they tasted bland and the texture was not just going well. Over all I would go there to eat the burgers again.

Chester’s is a solid local burger joint. This is a good place for you if you like hand-cut fries, thin and juicy burgers, and poppy seed buns. Personally, I find Chester’s to be phenomenally average. It’s good, but I’d rather go to Chris Madrid’s or even Longhorn Café for a thicker burger. Their chilli is a bit unpalatable, but a lot of people love it so I’ll reserve my judgment. In sum, the classic burger is pretty good and feel free to get crazy with bacon and an extra patty. Onion rings are great, and the fries are pretty good. My grandma absolutely loves to get a BLT on texas toast, which to be fair is pretty out of this world. Can’t go wrong with the milkshakes either. Chester’s is reliably good and has competitive prices, yet I’d hesitate to vote it best in the state.

Got their green chili cheeseburger. It’s delicious! It goes great with a Mexican beer! Highly recommend this burger! I also very much enjoyed their scrumptious onion rings. I don’t think you can go wrong with Chester’s.

You know… The place boasts a the«best» burgers in town. FYI check out«Tommy’s burger stop» in Anchorage, AK to get a feel for the type of class I’m looking for. Something to really set it apart. The burger was good, not and the onion rings were a hit. Just nothing special. The big con for me was during lunch, how dark and dank the place looked. Like an old western saloon? The pro! Well… I happen to be fan of craft beers and Chester has them. Burgers are good enough to go back, not the best in town unfortunately. I ordered the green chili burger, the chili was very«wet» so halfway through my bun turned to mush. Lettuce, mayo onion mustard on a poppy seed bun… Seared Patty, nothing special but their craft selection makes a trip worthwhile for me.

Sometimes I’m a simple gal looking for a simple cheesy tasty burger. You’ll definitely get that here. I went simple and ordered a cheeseburger with mustard and pickles only. The burger is a pretty good size that comes on a buttered poppy seed bun. The burger could use just a little more seasoning though in my opinion. I added an order of onion rings which were nice and crunchy. I love crunchy rings where the onion stays intact with your bite and not soft where the onion comes out completely with one bite. It’s a decent size restaurant but get packed really quickly. They also have shakes which are really good. I’ll definitely be back here again.

THE place for a juicy neighborhood burger. The onion rings are also tasty, and I have a friend who swears by their grilled cheese here, but the burgers are really what they’re known for. Serving sizes are criminally huge, and service is hit or miss because they mostly staff high school students– but in the past 20 years, they’ve been a reliable pick for great burgers.

Delicious burgers that are large enough to share. Fries are homemade and are served piping hot. I have been a fan of this chain for 20+ years. It’s still as good as the first time I had it(at the original location on Fred Rd.

Well, something happened on this visit that I did not particularly like. Chester’s gloats about their«tremendous» beer selection. I rarely like to enjoy a beer when I go out, but this time, being National Hamburger Day, I was really hankering for a Wisconsin brew with my burger. What kind of establishment prides itself on its beer selection without a Wisconsin beer? The state that practically *gave* America beer! No Leinenkugel? WTH? Sure, the traditional watered-down stuff of the major chain beers, and some Mexican and craft beer. But just how hard is it to contact Chippewa Falls, WI and request an order of Leinie? HUH? Chesters? Although the burger was good, I *almost* got some bacon on that burger. Line was VERY long(I know, for NHBD) and the lot was too crowded… wait, I’m starting to sound like some of the other Unilocalers with my griping. Guess I’ll have to go back at a time when Chester’s is not quite as busy and give them another try. But not until they get some Leinie. H-E-B on Babcock carries the variety pack. And check with the distributor. Please. Get my Leinie if you claim to have that massive beer selection. Only Wisconsin brew touches these lips. The chocolate malt ROCKS! :-)

Clean place, less than good food. Fries were good but the cheeseburger tasted like cheap meat from Walmart. Came in because a friend recommended it… we are no longer friends…
