New hangout alert. I’ve lived in SA for almost two years but just discovered Boehler’s last month. Perfect location. Reasonable prices. Friendly, laid-back and just a great ‘chill’ spot. This is a slanted, two-story white building that has been around for ages. It’s right off 281 and on the northeast tip of the sprawling Pearl complex — easily accessible yet just enough of that ‘tucked away’ feeling. Go inside and you can sit in the dining area(nah) or go to the bar area where there also are tables to sit and eat. Note: the bartender is also the waitress so that can cause a bit of a wait when the place gets busy. Alcohol: Full bar. Beer? They have bottles, cans, but the drafts are best. They rotate. Usually $ 4. Happy hour I found to be $ 3(most, anyway). Reasonable. You can go in with a 20 in your pocket and have a good time. Is that a euphemism? Food: Full menu and they serve Sunday Brunch! Great all around — burgers, chicken, meatloaf — comfort food, bar food, salads(tell them only half the dressing), sandwiches, etc. Average price around $ 12. I find that a little high for dinner… at a bar. But it is delicious. Bartender(usually just one there) is very friendly and knows what she’s doing. The greatest part about this place? There’s a little patio shaded by lots of trees in the back. It reminds me of The Friendly Spot in Southtown — only the best part: no children here! It’s very shady, very quiet and a great place to just kick back and waste the day. You have to check it out! Open ’til 1am on Fri/Sat. 11p weeknights. Wish they were open later but beggars can’t be choosers.

Boehler’s is a great neighborhood bar in the Pearl Brewerty district. This place looks like it had a few regulars that go to it, which I think gives it all the more character. The building has been owned by the same family since it was built and once it was hit by a pretty bad flood, so the building is now slightly crooked(but structurally sound!)-just check out the windows, you’ll see! The staff is really friendly, especially the bartender and he took the time to ask our names and introduced himself too. My friend and I were having some girl talk and he even was a good sport when we asked his opinion on the situation from a guy’s POV! We just had drinks but my friend ended up ordering a french fry app that basically looked like the toppings you’d put on a baked potato but on a basket of fries, what’s not to like?

My wife and I have been very pleased with the service and food at Boehlers – provided you avoid the bartenders.(On multiple occasions, the bar staff has been rude and inattentive.) So, skip the bar and sit down in the dining room to enjoy a meal. This place is famous for its significantly slanting walls, which are a remnant of a Noah-like flood that struck San Antonio back in the 20s(I believe.) My wife and I have enjoyed salads, sandwiches and dinners here, and I’ve found the food to be quite good. Check out the Chicken and Smoked Sausage Penne a la Vodka – I enjoyed it.

I can’t believe I lived in San Antonio for four years and never tried this place! On our way to Corpus, we stopped in because my husband had been there once. It’s a cool, old leaning house turned bar and restaurant. The food was very inventive(you must try the risotto stuffed banana peppers!) and they offered a lot of beers and wines. The prices were good and the service was excellent! My one and only complaint: The cooks in the back were listening to some head-banging loud music and singing along the entire time we were there. I’m sure this is due to the them being really slow, but it was pretty annoying. This didn’t affect the food quality but probably should be addressed by management. If you live in SA, you should definitely give this place a try.
