Enjoyed the infused vodka shots Sweet potato Lemon Strawberry Golden beet Poppyseed The dead beet is a great drink Loved the curry dish with rice. Dinner here did not fill me up but I did love the drinks.

My Rating: 3.5 stars Reviewing: Dinner What We Ordered: Pork Belly Ramen(recommend!) and Fall Curry So Alchemy has a great vibe to it. There’s a great bar at the front and during dinner, the lighting is dim — a great place to take a date. They are unique from the restaurants in SA for their kombucha which is definitely worth a try. FOOD: The PORKBELLYRAMEN’s soup was delicious and the noodles and pork belly were all tender. My only complaint about this bowl is that it was kinda small for the price. Something that is worth ordering though if you are a ramen lover. The FALLCURRY, however, was a disappointment. The taste of the sweet potatoes did not blend well with the rest of the vegetables and the curry sauce did not cut it for me — the whole bowl was actually kind of bland. Honestly there are a lot of great options on the menu, and the cool thing about this place is that they have seasonal menus so although one of my two dishes wasn’t that great, I am more than willing to come back and try this place! And I do want to try their brunch!

The menus are creative, the prices reasonable, and the food is delicious! We shared the duck fat potatoes. I had the Sherry Cobbler cocktail and the hummus and veggies. My husband had an old fashioned and the burger. The potatoes were divine. Soft but a little crispy and sitting on a perfectly tart sour cream sauce. The veggies were fresh and local, the hummus delicious(though, we had to order another side of it because the smear on the plate wasn’t enough for real dipping). The burger was thick with a decadent gravy on a crisp Italian bun. His old fashioned was pretty spot on. My cocktail was a little weak, but had great flavor. There isn’t much parking out front but we still found a spot. My husband and I got there at 7pm on a Saturday, and there were only two tables taken inside and two occupied outside. This was both super convenient and a little bit of a bummer — shouldn’t this place by packed on a Saturday? We chose to sit out back at one of picnic tables. The back area is very charming — oil lamps on picnic tables, string lights in the trees, a small platform for a band, vintage chairs for group seating. The inside, by contrast, is dark and confusing. One side of the small space is dominated by a nondescript bar that doesn’t offer seating(if I’m remembering correctly). Too much of the room is given to a large, empty hostess counter that blocks the view from said bar. And the other half of the room is filled with tightly spaced, intimate café tables. The walls are stucco and painted dark, the floor is concrete, and there aren’t any windows. It just feels like it’s haunted by the neighborhood watering hole or cheap club of its former life.

There was nothing really wrong with this place but I just didn’t leave all that crazy about it. I liked that they offer vegetarian options but nothing on the menu really stood out to me that much. I got the cauliflower dish in my picture and it just seemed liked something was missing. It was good, just not memorable. The place is cute inside and the service was good. I hear they have a nice patio but I didn’t get to check it out because it was really cold and windy the night I went. It’s definitely a cool place everyone should check out. I really like that San Antonio has so many cool and interesting restaurants popping up.

I will start this review by saying the food was decent as was the service at the time of our dinner. Had a whole debacle with my charge but luckily the owner is a patient human who explained everything to me and turns out it was more an error on my side/possibly technical rather than my card being mis-charged. Thank goodness for the edit button!

Liked everything about this place. The atmosphere, the people, the food, everything!!! I wished there were more on the menu but I also understand the simplicity. The dishes were very well executed. There was texture, taste, color, flavor, diversity, and satisfaction. The Curry with Jasmine Rice was a perfect selection for me. I love curry, whether it’s traditional or neo-American but this curry had a different take that was subtle yet still cultured. I usually let everyone at my table try the dishes I order but I liked the dish so much that I forgot to ask and ate the whole thing. Something has changed at in the kitchen at Alchemy and I like it. Keep on keeping on.

My wife and I ate dinner last night at Alchemy for Valentines. It would be hard to imagine a better meal. I had no idea what the food would be and we had a great adventure. Four courses were all a fun surprise. The wine parings were perfect. Great service, laid back atmosphere. My new favorite place!

The food is was beyond scrumtrulecent. Oh So very delicious. The Roasted Sweet Potato was everything I would hope for in flavor and texture. The Vegan Curry was outstanding and we loved it so much. Very satisfying & delightfully aromatic. No complaints about the kitchen though or the Bar the seemed to be really invested in their roles. Yum! My impression was that on this Friday night the wait staff was having a little trouble with their A game. We all have those days so I am always willing to keep a open mind until I get a better feel for the place. It wasn’t incredibly busy as we were fairly early but there were lots of awkward moments throughout the evening to say the least. The reason I say this is that upon arrival we were greeted by a waitress coming out if the kitchen doors. It seemed pretty empty still so as per usual I asked if there were any corner tables available since it did not seem to be any trouble. I am a passionate about having a spot that I can appreciate comfortably during my visit and I like a corner with a view when possible. She obliged us & was friendly, seated us quickly and brought out ice water and a water bottle for the table. Then, we sat for about 15 minutes until we emptied out water bottle. No one ever came back for us. *crickets chirping* We were forgotten or possibly being ignored. Confusion about who’s table we were perhaps? The lady that seated us passed us three times at least and very specifically was no longer trying to make eye contact with us. Hmm? Anyhow, we stopped another girl working there and mentioned that we hadn’t ordered yet and were not really sure anymore who was supposed to be tending to our table. She said: «Oh no one has put in your order yet? What can I get for you? « Ergo, we ordered. Two flights of Kombucha. A sweet potato starter Two vegan curries. And well we tried to order dessert but soon found out that the pastry chef had parted ways and took her recipes with her to new endeavors. The waitress said that there is a possibility of new possibilities in sweets in the future so to stay tuned. We received 4 shots each within the of Kombucha flights. Smokey Black Jasmine Hibiscus Green tea And Milk Ooglong My top pick would have been the Smokey Black. How unique and complex tasting. The smokey mesquite bean just jumps out at you. Loved it. I myself brew Jun elixir and love experimenting with new local flavors in my brews and this was lovely. Also how amazing to have such delightful choices on tap. Overall I love the food here and I can not wait to try their cocktails one day when I get the time. Till then. I will be looking forward to my next visit & all the yummy food and drink. Hopefully we can get a little more cow bell on the wait team. Cause it needed more cow bell.

Not really sure why I’ve never written a review about Alchemy as it is one of my favorite restaurants in town right now. I’m sure this is what Thomas means by my compliments that say«write more reviews» lol. Alchemy is the perfect mix of good drinks and good food. Their patio is where you can go with a group of friends and just chill all night. I’ve spent many a happy hour at their bar sipping on my favorite drink(it’s currently not on the menu this season) the high tai’d and eating a bowl of ramen. Their menu changes with the season because they source the ingredients locally. But if they have the ramen, curry, burger or fried chicken try one of those! Oh and the cauliflower is amazing as well! They also make their own kombucha which you can try a flight or glass of. The ones I’ve tasted are very flavorful. You should go check out Alchemy now. Take my advice and go!

Tried this place for the first time yesterday night after hearing all the raving about the kombucha and amazing dishes. I wanted to try the kombucha flight but they were out. But our waitress did offer to let us sample the two kombucha’ that were in stock, I loved the jasmine hibiscus kombucha! For dinner I got the«A» burger and it was one of the best burgers I’ve every had! Amazing! My husband had the pork belly ramen and finished every drop of it! Great food, very polite service and I loved that for most of the night it was just my husband and I in the restaurant. Very romantic lighting also!

I’ll give it a 3. Even though it was great. There were some misses. 1. Atmosphere is great. It’s not room-y in the inside. Tables were pretty spread out and it wasn’t much seating if you went on a busy night and it was 45degrees outside with a light mist. The patio is where they have most of their seating. Equip with heat lamps tho! 2. Service was okay. In some areas? We didn’t have utensils. They brought chopsticks but no napkins or actual utensils. Had to hunt down the server for that. Our food had issues(I’ll get into that) BUT! They server was great about fixing the problem. 3. FOOD, okay, I hope everyone else is thinking this and I’m not just over reacting. $ 17 for ramen though? Really? Even though it was DELICIOUS. I don’t know if I could justify paying $ 17 for a bowl of ramen. Had the breakfast ramen for brunch, it had pork belly which was awesome. In thick slices. Semi hard to eat. It had scrambled eggs instead of your typical boiled egg which was a fun change. The star of the show thought were the mushrooms. Just skip all the other toppings and just get the mushrooms. I might order this again. My sister had the fried chicken with pie filling. What we manage to eat was delicious! But unfortunately parts of the chicken parts were raw and slightly bloody. The first time they replaced it and we’re super apologetic about it. New plate was unfortunate also raw. Maybe it’s a new dish and they haven’t gotten the timing just right. Who knows, it was really tasty though, but again at that steep price of $ 17. Over all, I will comeback to try more of the menu. It’s just a little pricy for what it is.

Great food, cool vibes, dirty silverware. The service was spot on! Walked in, greeted and quickly got a table with water for the entire group. The waitress was extremely friendly and offered us off-menu items. We grabbed the entire array of food and drinks. Drinks: were a little pricey but had enough alcohol content to make it worth every penny. Had the fixed element, Willie Nelson, Bexar Debonair to name a few. All came out picture perfect and extremely well crafted Food: WOW, just mouth watering. The best option, imo, was the braised pork shank. The pork fell apart into a great mixture of sauced veggies. We tried several other off-menu items which were all good. The bad: The food came out promptly and we quickly dove into the plates. One person at our table was in shock as we ate. «Look at your fork!» we looked down and the entire fork was completely covered in old food, a rusty look. He showed us his silverware which came out from the napkin, it was entirely brown, rust-like. These forks were clearly not washed correctly, making all the silverware dry-crusted with old food. We caught the servers attention and she seemed extremely embarrassed and apologetic, however, we were so grossed out by the start of the meal it was hard to eat. I expected a manager to come out and correct the issue but this was nonexistent. I really want to continue returning to Alchemy but the public should be reassured their utensils are washed and cleaned before eating. Will return but will check my fork before eating

Holy brunch balls! Alchemy has just started serving Sunday brunch and you better get yourself there because it is awesome. I tried two dishes, because, why not? 1. Waffle with peanut butter mousse, brown butter, cut up banana and blueberries. 2. Biscuit with mushroom gravy, add sausage. One was savory, one was sweet. I had two reasonably priced cocktails– a bloody cesar, and a shamekiller(think painkiller, but we’re talking about a drink that reminds you of the mistakes you made the prior Saturday night people!), $ 6 – 7 each. Go check it out and get you some– starts at 11AM every Sunday. And! If it’s a nice day, you can sit outside.

My husband suggested that we try Alchemy Kombucha And Culture; we arrived early and we were one of perhaps 3 other cars in the parking lot. I usually judge a business by the amount of people at the establishment. Don’t let this fool you; people started trickling in after we had arrived. My husband tried the Kombucha Flight to start which consisted of 4 small glasses of their Kombucha. I tried the first one, because they graduate in flavor and I am not as avid a drinker of Kombucha as he is. We both ordered a Willie Nelson which is their version of an old fashioned. Their drink consists of Bourbon, coconut palm sugar, Angostura Bitters, & Lemon Oil; I love that this is served with a block of ice the way it should be. Okay here goes… we ordered our first drink during their Happy Hour(2 drinks -$ 16.00 less $ 6.00) not bad! Our second Willie Nelson was served after Happy Hour for the regular prices of $ 8.00 each. My husband and I both ordered the Summer Curry; very spicy, vegan and reminded me of the food I ate when I worked in Mumbai, India. There is not a lot on the menu for a pescatarian to eat, so for this reason I rate this establishment a four star. We loved the education we received from our server Cisco. He was very polite and answered our questions with confidence. I will continue to check their website for new items on the menu with hopes that perhaps fish items are added to their menu.

Sir Tomas of Unilocal-a-lot hosted an awesome CMYE here. I’ve been wanting to try this establishment after reading some very positive reviews and having the opportunity to spend time with some amazing Unilocalers is the perfect opportunity. They have starters, full plates and deserts. They have vegan, vegetarian and carnivor options on the menu. Also some tasty cocktail offerings. Inside is nice and relaxing and the patio out back is very cool and will be a great place to hang out on nice evenings. The veggie garden areas are a very nice touch. I hope with with fall coming they will provide them with many wonderful fresh ingredients. FYI, the okra salad is out of this world amazing as is their hummus. The parking is limited but don’t let the thought of street parking keep you away.

Talk about ancient chemistry… Compact-but-innovative menu, creative kombucha offerings, great interior vibe, super pleasant staff.. I’ll definitely be back for more Alchemy! (…in daylight. Damn that neighborhood is sketch!) I tried the flight of their available house-brewed kombuchas(Element) — each is absolutely delightful(well. .except for maybe the smoky one. Points for effort and creativity, but drinking mesquite juice just ain’t my thing.) and milder/more approachable than Buddha’s Brew. Favorite of the bunch though was an off — menu sample the bartender threw in — the cardamom and chile pequin-spiked Black Dragon. I had only stopped in for kombucha and wasn’t super hungry, but the dessert menu is really just irresistible. .how can you not at least TRY peanut butter mousse topped with celery sorbet and blueberry jam drizzle? Grown up ants on a log is awesome, fo shizzle.

Shut up with the hipster talk — this is a restaurant for the people. Or is it a bar? Or a lounge? Or a coffee house hybrid? Idk how to define this place because it really is a little bit of everything in so many ways. Walking in, there are dining tables to the right, cozy sip your drink of choice chairs and couch to the left, a bar straight ahead, and a great patio in the back. Get comfortable wherever you like and get ready to put some awesome flavors in your mouth. If you come early enough, be sure to ask about any specials for the evening but if you miss out on the specials — fear not! Everything on the menu is good. No joke. Every drink and every food item sends an ‘mmmmm’ into the universe. All together now… ‘Mmmmmm’. I’m currently hooked on the vegan mushroom curry, the ramen, and the freakin crudités plate! Ordering the crudités the first time I was expecting a crunchy experience but wow! Those veggies, dat hummus, and the few slices of warm bread satisfied in the best way. As far as libations go, all of the drinks are fantastic but the summer jam is the gin and tonic made with herbs de Provence. With a short and sweet late night menu offering the trap house burger($ 17.38), you will step out onto N. Flores satisfied and smiling.

This place was so good, that I had to write a review as soon as I got home. I have been wanting to check out this place for sometime. The pics of the food looked quite delicious and the idea of Kombucha was so new to me that I had to go and try it. Well Kombucha is basically a tea with«live probiotics, healthy acids, and enzymes» this was taken from the label of the bottle of Kombucha tea I had at Alchemy. It’s actually quite acidic at first, but then pretty tasty and quite refreshing. The food, oh my, the food was amazing. The menu is limited, but what we had was so good. Ok, hands down, the best hummus in town! Yes, there’s someone else in town that claims they make the best hummus, but IMHO, this one kicks«bleep». The hummus comes with fresh red and golden beets, radishes, cucumbers, smoked cauliflower, and this bread that was so delicious, I wish they would sell me a loaf to take home. The Akaushi beef tartare was so good, that I ate half of it(and I don’t like anything raw), it was so delectable, «it was dancing on my tongue»(I heard that once on Iron Chef and I just wanted to use that line. The ramen was some of the best I’ve had in SA. My partner ate most of it. It was spicy and rich. It’s what ramen should be in my book. I can’t wait to go back and check out the rest of their menu and their patio when the weather is more conducive in SA.
