Alamo pizza offers a decent lunch buffet and some big ass, hearty, greasy pizzas. If that’s your thing then this place deserves 5 stars and pay no heed to the rest of my review. Other than that, the inside isn’t much to look at and anything on the menu that isn’t pizza isn’t really worth eating.

Best calzone I’ve ever had. A little pricey, but so worth it. Others had pizza and said it was wonderful also.

This is a hole in the wall place. They have an interesting selection of pizza. I just wasn’t overly impressed with the quality of the pizza itself in particular the crust of the pizza.

I like to eat at this hole in the wall pizza place. The pizza is better than most chains and their wings, rolls are also good. The pasta and sandwiches are OK, stick with the pizza and your good.

I love how the pizza and their pastas taste homemade. The service is great. It’s a little hole in the wall on the southside. They have a variety of pizza sizes, a variety of pastas, calzones and appetizers. Give it a try. You won’t be disappointed.

Alamo Pizza is a cool little pizza place on the near south-side of San Antonio. It is not a chain owned place and that is always a plus in my book. The pizza was tasty, but it did not set itself apart to be placed among the elite pizza joints of our city(i.e. Dough, Florio’s, Rome’s). I tried the Texas Best with Jalapenos. Served hot, the meats were not too greasy or salty and the cheese was generous. The crust was a little under-done, however. I also tried their wings as a friend told me their wings were some of the best. Well, let’s just say I need to take my friend out to more wing places. Alamo’s wings were good, but nothing to write home about. They almost tasted like they came from a bag bought at Costco and while I am not saying that is a bad thing, I just expect a little more from a restaurant. If you come here, stick with the pizza and eat local. Don’t bother with the chain pizza places because Alamo is still the better option.

Read about this place in the SA Express News. We only had the pizza and it wasn’t bad. It was nice, fresh I thought the crust was the perfect thickness and the toppings very generous. I would have to agree with another reviewer and say that the cheese is ok but definitely not the greatest. I would say one of the best things about the place is the customer service. We walked in 15 minutes before closing and were greeted warmly and were not rushed at all. I don’t know about you but customer service goes a long way in my book. Ended the evening with one of their brownies. While it was homemade was too cake like for my taste. But we will be back to try the hot wings and maybe a sub.

I really wish I liked this pizza more… but I just don’t love it. The food is good. Its definitely better than Little Caesar’s and Pizza Hut. Thing is, places like Goomba’s, Chicago’s, Florio’s, etc are much, much better. The crust is a bit too thick but that’s just my preference. The sauce is good. I think the quality of the cheese is what makes me think, «meh» about the pizza. I think a different type/brand of cheese would make a huge difference! This is a teeny lttle place. Its family owned and everyone that worked there was very sweet. I placed an order half an hour before they closed and they were busy but were still able to have the order ready in a timely fashion. The décor is simple but I think that’s fine. I don’t really care about décor so that’s no big deal to me. I want to come back to try out their sandwiches and pasta. I’ll update review after I do. I really want to add another star. I like the people there; just wish I felt the same way about the pizza.

The best damn pizza. Period. Whoa, hit the brakes and let go of the gas already! Whoever is foolish enough to believe that has never been to any other pizza place like Goomba’s, Miss Ellie’s or Florio’s. I mean Alamo Pizza is the anti-Rodney Dangerfield of local mom and pop pizza places in San Antonio, it doesn’t deserve much respect. The place itself is located in the Palm Heights hood on Zarzamora and Winnipeg next to some little car wash. It’s mainly popular with neighborhood locals. Once you go in you notice how small it is and you also see the banners of universities such as UT, St. Mary’s, Schreiners and the nearby high school of its neighbors, Burbank. You go up to the counter to place your order and pay. I ordered a small salad and a Hawaiian pizza. The prices are decent. My salad came with a breadstick. Breadstick was good but I wish the salad was a little better. It had lettuce, black olives and tomatoes and came with creamy Italian dressing, which was a bummer because I preferred regular Italian dressing. My pizza arrived. The toppings were generous and it had enough cheese, not too much or too little. It didn’t have enough sauce though and the crust was a bit too thick and was dusted with a lot of flour. It reminded me of Main St. Pizza near SAC. I would say the Main St. is slightly better than Alamo because their sauce is a bit more flavorful. After I finished my pizza I had a sweet tooth so I decided to get a chocolate chip cookie. At the cheap price of $ 0.85 it was practically a steal! And the cookie was hella good too on top of that, it tasted homemade instead of commercialized. So an average pizza plus a decent cookie is what earns Alamo its two star rating. Maybe I’ll return to try one of their subs or pasta dishes but from here on out, I’ll satisfy my pizza fix elsewhere but here.

Remember the Alamo! They have wonderful pizza and excellent hot wings. Add tasty sandwiches, and you have a great locally owned pizza joint. The prices very reasonable and my two youngest daughters eat up the pepperoni as if there were no tomorrow. The pizza is definitely a step above the national chains with an excellent balance of cheese, sauce and veggies. The hot wings are a real treat with a great buffalo sauce that is very tangy and packs a flavorful wallop. If you really want to try something different, their sandwiches are extremely good. You will love the grilled chicken sandwich with a nice vinaigrette dressing. They are served with an order of seasoned fries which appear to be home made and not frozen food-service fare. So, when you are hungry and orbiting this side of town, remember the Alamo Pizza location on Zarzamora. * I used to rate them a four star treat but they used to have wings on the buffet so I docked them a star for their removal.

Pretty decent pizza, I was surprised that they had a lunch buffet. How would I compare it to other pizza parlors? I would give it a step above little Caesars.

I’ve passed by this joint so many times and never thought it was anything special. One day I was in the mood for some pizza, not the kind you get that is all ‘franchised’ but a special homemade kind. I stopped at Alamo to see what they had to offer. I took home the Texas sized pizza with cheese only… and the rest is history! This pizza is so worth the money. At first I thought it was just going to be this large box but the Texas size is almost the size of a hood of a car… Ok, maybe I’m over-exaggerating a bit, but honestly, it’s huge! Taste of the pizza is amazing. It is so homemade, I felt the love that was put in when they made my pizza. They used some sort of seasoning on top of the pizza that made it unique. The cheese was melted and soft, not hard and chunky. The sauce was perfect, not too thick but I found it to be a little on the thin side. Crust was delicious, buttery, soft, with a good amount of density but crispy enough that it didn’t get soggy. I can’t really speak for the rest of the menu since the only thing I have tasted is the pizza, they have some other things on the menu that sound delish… But everytime I have gone to Alamo Pizza there are always people eating the other food items that look so delicious. Pros: Food is good, place is clean, prices are good, a lot of items to choose on the menu. Cons: Only 1 location from what I know, the restaurant is a little small for large parties, they close too early-I wish they would stay open at least until 11pm. Recommend to a friend? Yes Will you buy from them again? Yes!
