San Anselmo Optometry

The other morning I woke up and my glasses had mysteriously vanished from the bedside table. Very odd. Where the heck did I leave them?
You know how much fun it is looking for your glasses, without your glasses? Not much ;)
Surely the puppy… nah.
Why would the puppy snatch the glasses? Not that little angel!
Funny thing — there, in her backyard spot, I found the remnants of a most excellent and fairly expensive pair of glasses. Basically one leg and one lens. Not useable, not repairable.
Glumly I called Royce at San Anselmo Optometry to ask about ordering another pair — and after a little chuckle, he told me he could get it covered under the warrantee.
The warrantee?
Who knew???
Turns out, because of these awesome guys, I was covered (my glasses have a better protection plan than my car!)
Today I picked up my brand new glasses.
No charge. No deductible, nothing. Even had a free bottle of water and some candy!
I’ve been going here for years and this is the way they roll — I love them and so will you!
Tell them my puppy says «Hi» :)

Love love loved this place. The dr is so knowledgable, gentle and so kind. The front person is just amazing. The place feels super comfortable and they for sure make your apt smooth and easy. Makes me want to come back just because hehe. For sure recommend them.

My first conversation with Larry was great, he spent significant time discussing my condition and all relative options. Wow that was a breath of fresh air! Royce has had great follow up and fantastic eyeglass recommendations. He should be working in Hollywood (ha).

2^nd Year around and Royce still remembers me! Even though he is such a busy busy busy man. Royce takes the time with each customer to provide that customer service and see what best needs for him/​her. Couple of times my glasses broke and he fixed or replaced right away. So if you are looking for a place to get your eyes checked this is the place to be!

These guys are amazing! Going here is my first and only eye care experience but simply from a personal and professional standpoint nothing could be more exceptional. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Even have recommended friends from Sonoma county to drive here for their eye care.

Larry Harrison is the best optomitrist I’ve been to in over 30 years of getting eye care. I spent literally 20 hours trying to get my contacts and glasses fit with 3 other practitioners who just could not quite make it work. Dr. Harrison got it right the very first visit.
And, they have impeccable customer service. Royce is knowledgable and smart.
I drive all the way from Berkeley just to go to THIS shop.

She called all over Marin and finally when she called San Anselmo Optometry, Royce told her to bring them in and and he would try to fix them for her. He was able to get the necessary parts and within a few days she had her glasses good as new and was off on her trip. He was a life saver… thanks so much Royce.

Dr. Harrison is a very easy going and personable dood. The exam he gave me was one of, if not the most thorough I have ever had. I was fitted for contacts too and he gave me several options to try based on my needs.
Royce talked to me about what I like in frames and what I don’t, then showed me a bunch of possibilities including some funky ones that he thought might look alright on me. We found a good set and I’m stoked.
I def will recommend these guys.
They’re in the upscale strip area, but that’s ok (or even a plus). There are a couple dedicated parking spots in front so you don’t have to fight anyone for a spot. They also take VSP and other ins.

Larry spent so much time with me making sure that I was going to be happy not only with my choice of glasses but with how I was going to be using them (reading vs distance). We talked for quite a while and he did tests on me that no other optometrist has ever done.
Then working with Royce! What can I say? The man is simply kind, funny and so knowledgeable and worked with me on getting everything I wanted.
If I could give them 10 stars I would. It’s just a good experience. No pressure and got everything I wanted and needed.

Just left my first visit here and I’m thrilled! Larry was so nice, relaxed, and thorough! He answered every question and really kept the appointment very relaxed and focused on my eye care needs. I have been to many different optometrists and I really appreciate his style! Will be referring people here and a customer as long as I’m in the area. No insurance and a reasonable self pay rate! 5 stars!!!

I’ve worn glasses (and later contacts) since I was seven, and I’m now 27. I’ve always greatly dreaded getting my eyes checked, as usually the whole experience was made quite unpleasant, especially since I wear a higher prescription. I hated having endless charts to read that I couldn’t see in the first place, and getting admonished for how weak my eyes were; over the years it’s been something I continually put off doing.
I don’t have to feel that way any more! I had the most wonderful experience at my visit today. They use much better methods that involve taking actual measurements of various parts and pressures of your eye, and it turns out I’d actually been over-​corrected before. They don’t charge you an extra fitting fee if you wear contacts and want to keep your current brand like almost every other place I’ve ever been does. Dr. Harrison was very pleasant and courteous, explaining everything and very professional. They didn’t have my usual brand in stock in my power, so they gave me two pair of another comparable one since I am on my last pair of contacts, with no extra charge, and are still ordering me a trial pair of my usual brand.
I have definitely found my new eye doctor, as I will certainly be coming back and wouldn’t go anywhere else! 20 years of dreading eye exams has disappeared in one visit.

I went to San Anselmo Optometry this week, upon the recommendation of a neighbor, confirming that they took my insurance (VSP) and seeing the great reviews on Unilocal.I had a great experience overall.
When I made called for an appointment, they were able to get me in at at time that worked well for me and they provided accurate directions to the shop. I was happy to find they have a few off street parking spaces in front of their place too.
Dr Harrison did a very thorough exam and addressed all the issues and concerns I had about my vision. Royce did a wonderful job helping me to select frames that looked good. The prices were reasonable as well.
I am definitely going to be a regular customer of San Anselmo Optometry.

I’m so grateful for this duo! I came across an online deal and decided to try them out. Larry was very professional and knowledgeable about eye health (I have very dry eyes and many concerns). The eye exam room is lovely and his exam was great. When it came to finding the right pair of frames, Royce was very pleasant and super helpful in finding the neatest pair of glasses. Once they were in, I received so many compliments! I came back for a pair of sunglasses and another pair of eyeglasses. Their selection is so unique and their customer service is unbeatable. I have never been treated so well — honestly. If you’re looking for a completely different experience than a optometry shop in the mall, come to this place :)

I bought a Living Social deal and went to my appointment today. The «receptionist» (he’s much more than that), Royce, was wonderful — perfectly friendly, light-​humored, helpful and provided great service. Dr. Larry Harrison was also wonderful — informative, professional and, from what I could «see», accurate in his assessment of my vision. I was expecting a stuffier experience given the location but it was a relaxing, enjoyable time. I can’t wait to take my daughter back.

I live in Oakland but this is my new op spot! I just got a Living Social coupon for San Anselmo Op and I went in yesterday for my appointment.
I walked in and knew I made the right decision about buying that coupon! Larry and Royce were both super welcoming and friendly. During my eye exam, Larry explained everything he was doing while providing info and fun facts about everything eyes. Royce took out like, every single pair of glasses he thought I’d like and was really helpful in making my frame choice in terms of pricing, style, and fit. (All while multitasking, answering the phone, tending to other customers, amazing!) My Mom, who wears glasses, was also with me and he even gave her some fun frames and sunglasses to try on. It was super fun.
I’m really happy with my new frames and I can’t wait to get them next week!

Best all around glass purchasing experience ever! Was blown away by the large selection of frames made both in the US and in Europe. They are beautifully made and not seen anywhere else in Marin. However, if you must have known designer eye wear, they carry those as well. Royce has a great eye and will assist you in choosing the most flattering frames for your face, while making sure that the glasses fit well and are comfortable.
Business partner Larry does a very comprehensive eye exam and also makes sure that your eyes are healthy. I really trust them both and will definitely be back.

Exemplary! Royce is a natural at helping you pick out frames that are going to look great. He also worked with me to make my purchase as affordable as possible. Larry took a few moments of his time to give me a complimentary check-​up on an unusual condition and gave me reassurance that my eyes looked healthy.
I enjoyed some fun conversation while there and it was like spending time with friends. I had already decided to become a lifetime customer, but then Royce put another arrow in their cap when he popped the lenses out of my old broken frames and placed them in a frame for me so that I would have a spare pair, for free!
Next time you need glasses or contacts, make sure you check San Anselmo Optometry out, you will leave happy and better looking than when you walked in!

Echo of others’ reviews. Great place, great service. Went there, got a friendly eye exam. And turns out I didn’t need new glasses, but my old ones were in sad shape. The kind optician, Royce, fixed them and away we went!
One great thing others have neglected to say, they have reserved, off street parking right in front of their office. A nice plus. Also they are handicap (wheelchair) accessible, which is important for those of us who don’t walk.

I have two pair of vintage sunglasses and I have been meaning to get prescription lenses, I prefer to shop locally and picked today to check out this new business in San Anselmo.
It can be tough to park at times downtown, I was glad to see the store had off street parking for customers. Dr. Larry was very easy going during the eye exam. They had a great selection of cool frames, and took the time to point out the pros and cons of glass versus plastic lenses, (I asked for glass for my ray bans, then later called them back and switched to plastic) Royce said he thought I might prefer plastic since glass is so much heavier on your face.
The asked me many questions about my health, and checked to see what part my insurance would cover. I was concerned about being without shades for a week, they gave me a really nice loaner pair! As I walked out the door they mentioned if I knew anyone that needed glasses and could not afford it they would help them out!
These guys were in Berkeley for over 25 years, the experience could not have been better! Think globally, shop locally, Woohoo, as good as it gets!
