I have done a lot of remodeling and dealt with many vendors for those remodeling projects. This was one of the worst. I wish I could give Old World Stone Imports less than one star. When I ordered the carpet, they did not mention tear-out and furniture moving. When I have purchased carpet in the past, these fees have always been part of the quote. After all, you don’t want to carpet installer to show up unprepared to tear out your old carpet and just dump the new carpet on your front step. Fortunately, it occurred to me to check on this prior to installation, and they told me these services were not included. So I agreed to pay the additional charges. Then shortly before the installation, we were suddenly informed that Old World’s representative had mismeasured and the total price was going up about $ 900. This purchase was for our vacation condo and I was not there at the time. I had no way to verify this and no time to do anything other than agree to pay whatever I was told. The price went up again. Our property manager was present during the installation. The installers had some issues and as a result, Old World’s representative agreed to remove the tear-out and furniture moving charges from our account. When the invoice arrived, however, they had only removed $ 50 of these fees, which totaled $ 350. So the price went up again. In addition, we had to pay our property manager for his time in supervising. One of the issues the installers had was that there was an area in which some shims needed to be used to install the carpet correctly. Our property manager communicated with Old World’s representative prior to the installation to tell her what height the shims needed to be. The shims, however, were the wrong height, and the only solution was to remove them. Of course Old World charged us for the installation and removal, even though we ended up with an inferior installation due to their absence and their absence was solely due to Old World’s mistake. But there’s more. Old World’s installers drove a nail through our cable TV connection. Comcast sent a guy out who spent two hours tracking down the problem, and my husband had to burn half a day for that. He attempted to fix it but left us with no service in one of the bedrooms. Our property manager managed to fix the problem but we of course had to pay for his time. After imposing all these additional fees and costs on us, and needless inconvenience as well, Old World’s only gesture was to take $ 250 off the bill — less than fees for tear-out and furniture moving that they had previously agreed to take off the bill and far less than the additional costs imposed on us by their mistakes during the installation process. I even offered to split the difference with them on their charges, even though it meant I would bear the costs of our property manager’s time alone, but they refused. I don’t have time to fight with these people so I paid them and will move on. I’d just like to save anyone I can from undergoing the same inconvenience, runaway costs, and terrible customer service. Avoid this place at all costs! They will waste your time, mistreat you and even blame you for their mistakes. The sales people are completely indifferent and the owner himself is not better. I bought tile from them and when I got home it turned out that they gave me the wrong product. They did not want to recognize their mistake, did not want to get me the right tile and on top of that the owner blamed me and wanted to charge me 10% restocking fee for their mistake. Unbelievable :( I received great care at other tile stores at the Tile Mile.
