It hurts to do this review… I’ve been coming to The New Yorker since I was a kid — over 30 years. We had a tradition in our family to spend New Years Eve here on a regular basis. This was the first time I’d been here for dinner in about 5 years. It used to be the epitome of fine dining in SLC. It’s taken quite a tumble and it’s been superseded by other places far better than it at this point. We came here for my wife’s birthday over Market Street. Bad choice. First off while waiting for my wife at the bar I got a faint smell of what can only be described as raw sewage while having a cocktail. Not a good start. The drink was fine but the bartender wasn’t that friendly or helpful and I might as well have been at Applebee’s. We were seated in the lower portion of the restaurant — just off to the left when you come in — and we got a table against the wall. It’s a good location but the bench against the wall has almost no padding whatsoever and it was perhaps one of the more uncomfortable sitting experiences I’ve had in a while at a restaurant. We ordered the sole — which was a special — and the filet mignon cutlets off of their fixed price menu(a starter, main and dessert). The cutlets were fine — nothing special, but just a piece of well cooked meat. The fish on the other hand was not good — it was completely bland. To top it all off, I gave the host a birthday cake that I had brought along for the occasion and asked her if it was ok to do so — she said, no problem whatsoever. Unfortunately, our server had no sense of surprise, etc. — something the average Chili’s waiter would probably get — and had no inkling to bring the cake out as a surprise at the end of the meal. So he kept asking questions about it which kind of took that surprise option off the table. He was a good enough server, but overall the service here was way below the level you’d expect for fine dining. Our tab for two dishes and a couple drinks was $ 150. I’m fine paying that if the food and service are up to snuff but that was most certainly not the case here at the New Yorker. It makes me sad to see it, but this place is definitely not what it was 5 to 10 years ago. I’ll still go to Market Street and the Oyster Bar, but I think this will be my last willing visit to the New Yorker. I’ll always have the memories.

Everything from the location, ambiance, service, food, and menu was perfect! For starters, we had an amazing server named Victoria I think. She was the sweetest! She wasn’t pushy, she made just the right amount of conversation and she was very quick. The food: we started with the sweet corn crab bisque and crab wedge salad. Both of these were heavenly! For the main course we had the RIGATONIWITHTUSCANWILDBOARBOLOGNESE. It was absolutely delicious! There was just enough flavor and the creamy sauce the boar is cooked in was fantastic. We also ordered the GRILLEDMAINELOBSTERFETTUCINE and that was amazing! It had a little bit of a spicy kick but it was delicious. There was plenty of lobster for the whole dish. The portions were fairly large so we are about half of each one to save room for dessert. Dessert: we ordered the cheesecake and the special that night — crêpe stuffed with vanilla ice cream, topped with whipped crème and banana foster. Both were to die for! The cheesecake was thick and creamy, topped with fresh berries and whipped crème! The crêpe was just perfect! Cost: overall it’s on the pricier spectrum but it’s worth it! Large portions, great food and service! We wanted to sit in the main restaurant but didn’t mention anything so were seated in the café but it was still very nice! Definitely recommend!

. This seems to be our week for visiting restaurants because they are one of the few places which serve a certain food. Tonight it was liver, something which used to be relatively standard but which seems now to be forgotten even by places like Lambs. It was not prudent to order both the Venetian style liver and onions and a chicken liver pâté app. Too much rich food and too much of a textural muchness, but a very tasty muchness. This is a very civilized ambiance. We purposefully came early having memories of noise when it was busy. Six-ish Tuesday it was easy to converse and, come to think of it, I don’t think there was music. Upholstery, tablecloths, partial carpet also keep reverberations down. Professional service.

Sadly dated 1980’s décor dining room, neglected with dead flowers in surrounding vases around the room. Food is mediocre; one entrée, the seafood stew, totally inedible… sent it back. The steak is good, but not the best. Server was pleasant, however not knowledgeable about wine list, etc. Very quiet and empty for a Saturday night during dinner rush hour. Poor ambience. Manager was an embarrassment; inappropriately dressed and terrible manners as she coughed all over our table without covering her mouth or apologizing– gross! This restaurant needs a total revamp or shut it down.

Everything was superb! Our appetizer was the jumbo shrimp. They were plump and great quality, although I do wish there were more than 6 per order. I had the new york strip, and my girlfriend had the maine lobster. Both were absolutely fantastic. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the lobster was large and absolutely succulent. Finally, dessert. The cheesecake may have been the best I’ve ever had. The chocolate pie my girlfriend ordered was just as good. Oh, and the bartender makes fantastic martinis. It’s expensive, but you certainly get what you pay for here!

$ 160 for 2 people? Sure no problem but I expected a bit more from the food and service. Waiter was lukewarm, it seemed he was embarrassed as he served our table and others around. Restaurant was a bit on the dirty side around our booth. They serve some kind of sourdough bread and butter that felt like more like pieces of stone than food. If I had thrown that bread at the wall I think the wall would have been on the losing side. Descent steak but I have had better for less. I liked the atmosphere and the warm lighting though. I really wanted to like this place. Would I come back? Maybe, maybe not. They might have had an off day, but at that price range compared to other restaurants in the area I don’t think that should be acceptable. Overall, the experience was OK.

This is an elegant steak-house with great fresh seafood even in a land-locked city. The food was delicious. I had a seafood special, Ono over a crab-succotash… delish! The prices were steep, but that’s what you expect in an elegant steakhouse… and fresh fish flown in isn’t cheap. The restaurant was not busy, but the servers were very attentive.

We got to enjoy a child free night and thanks to my Christmas gift from my employer we were able to try the New Yorker. I thought the ambiance was wonderful and romantic. Our server Tiffiny was wonderful, very friendly and on top of everything. We started out with sharing the radicchio, arugula and granny Smith salad. As silly as it may sound it had the best bleu cheese I’ve ever tasted on it, I could’ve ordered another and just eaten it for dinner. I had Chilean sea bass on a sweet corn and crab succotash with poblano cream sauce. The succotash and cream sauce were delicious, the fish was cooked to perfection but it was fairly bland. My husband had braised short ribs with whipped potatoes and vegetables. Huge portion, and the beef just melted in your mouth. I kind of wished I’d gotten the same but I did enjoy my dish. His was just better. We ended with the Tahitian vanilla crème brûlée. It was perfect. It is pricey, but overall I’d come back if I had an extra bill to throw down. Other than the bland fish everything else was spot on.

I’m in shock. Worst group dining ever. Expect to wait 45 mins for a cocktail and maybe you will even get your entrée. This trailer park was pretty much on fire before we walked in. DONOT bring people you like here — they will be sorely disappointed. Their ability to serve wine resides in the dark ages(no understanding of wine service) and their bar tender /manager on duty cuts people off without even visiting the room. DONOT do a group event here — I won’t ever eat here again with a group or as a regular patron. #amateurs didn’t know how to handle a party and they were so disorganized it wasn’t even funny. Cross one of my old favorites off the list I will drive 30 mins to avoid this shhhh show. Take your money somewhere else because after 30+ years they still can’t get it right. Taco Bell could do better.

Great food and terrific service. I was also pleased to find out that the management keeps tabs on local events and provides a complimentary shuttle services to some of them!

The food is good, the style and design is AMAZING! Such an upscale place that is needed in SLC. I love their design and layout. For a moment I forget I am in SLC.

The Marriott hotel recommend the place as a good steakhouse. Please keep in mind that my review is based on my experiences, I live in Texas. I had the rib eye, it was ok. The cut was not that good. The steak it self was simular to a chain like Logans or Chillies… The wine was good as we’re the vegs were amazing. The chef knows what he is doing. The atmosphere reminds me of Scarface at a fine dinning place in 80s which is awesome! Andrea our waitresses was cool and Sara the hostess was fantastic! She came around and chatted with my customer and i and was generally intrested in talking. Right on!

SLC was going wild tonight, so it was impossible for me to go where I intended to go originally(namely across the street). I had gone in wanting to order the fettucini alfredo with smoked salmon I had ordered last time I had been here three or more months ago– it wasn’t on the seasonal menu. My disappointment soon passed when I saw they had Steak Tartare. I ordered that and an authentic Caesar salad(with a real anchovy). Both were very good.

The New Yorker is a nice place for most any special occasion but I compare it to a middle aged man a few years past his prime. The décor and atmosphere had a early 90’s feel to it and the clientele seemed to mimic it with the majority being later in their life. Average quality and service at an above average price. Expect to pay $ 50 a plate with drinks and appetizers additional.

My boyfriend brought me here for a special New Year’s Eve dinner, and I was pretty impressed. The restaurant is located underground to the west of Market Street. It has an elegant and classy look to the place, so I felt completely comfortable wearing my cocktail dress. There was a special menu that night with slightly more elevated prices than their regular menu, so I was expecting the very best. We started out with a half dozen oysters($ 16) and they were okay. They tasted as if they had been shucked far in advance and had been sitting out. None of the natural juices had been retained in the shells and they were a bit dry. For my entrée, I had the Maine Lobster tail($ 49) that was topped with crab stuffing and Hollandaise sauce. It was good, but I just wasn’t blown away. The dish looks larger than it really is since there was more stuffing than actual lobster meat. The sautéed mushrooms that accompanied the dish were fine, but it wasn’t very filling. I would have preferred a more upscale side to match the price.

Nope. 150.00 for two people and no drinks. 1) I had a rocking table. 2) Simple hot appetizer came out cold, had to send it back. This isn’t Applebee’s, this this is not acceptable. 3) The bench I was sitting at, was high uncomfortable forcing my to slouch. Might seem petty complaint, but imagine trying enjoy a high end dinner uncomfortable, for two hrs. 4) food took forever and was at BEST for a B, potentially a B– because the cold appetizer. 5) Dessert was clear prepped hours/days before, not made to order or fresh. 10.00 for a piece of crap cake that was made long time ago. This is all unacceptable for a high end restaurant. Let’s face it, Utah doesn’t have high standards for food. Gordon Ramsey needs to revamp this whole entire state. Utah got #48 best states for food. Google it.

Don’t miss the best Dine O’Round lunch deal out there. $ 10 for a high class, high quality meal. Walk by the fancy valet cars out front and descend into fine dining heaven. Mixed green salad and your choice of boneless beef short rib or calamari steak. The salad is large and it is chock full of radishes, tomatoes and garlicky croutons. It comes with your choice of homemade dressings or a simple oil and balsamic vinegar. I ordered the sautéed calamari steak served with summer green beans and a lemon caper butter sauce. Think chicken piccata but more tender and divine. I have never had calamari cooked so tender and to perfection. My dining companion order the boneless beef short rib in a Cabernet sauce with whipped potatoes and green beans and tomatoes. It melted in your mouth. Beautiful presentation, white table cloths, excellent quality bread and butter on the table, superb service and an amazing dining experience. If you are thinking of taking advantage of this Dine O’Round, please know you won’t be disappointed. This is a great way to try this fine establishment at a great price.

The New Yorker was a real treat. I had a good steak with light Cajun spices. Accompanied by a Cabernet Sauvignon it was delicious. The berries with savayon sauce was a nice to cap off the experience.

I came here for my sister’s graduation dinner last night. Since we had a party of 12, we booked one of their private rooms, which was very nice. I think they have about three. For appetizers, we got the meatballs, shrimp cocktail, and cheese platters to share. The meatballs were juicy and good, and the cheese platter came with a variety of cheeses ranging from sharper cheeses like cheddar to more mild and softer ones like brie. All very good. The shrimp cocktail was so-so. Somehow, the shrimp did not have much shrimp flavor. I ordered their New York Strip entrée and was able to try a few other dishes too. My steak was cooked well and was served with flavorful scalloped potatoes and veggies. If you like new york strips, however, I’d go for the new york peppered steak. My mom ordered that dish and I preferred it over my dish. It had a very nice pepper crust on it. I managed to try my sister’s halibut dish. It was good, but a little bland for my tastes. We also ordered four desserts for the table to share: cheesecake, crème brulee, apple pie, and a mixed berries w/ice cream. These were all good, especially the apple pie and the crème brulee. The cheesecake was well done, but nothing out of the ordinary. I would recommend reserving the private rooms for a large party. Thank god we did because quite a few tears were shed when my sister read her graduation cards. It was definitely nice being able to laugh and cry to our hearts content. The restaurant also gave her a simple card with all the staffs signatures on it, which was a nice gesture on their part. My rating breakdown would be: Appetizers: 4 Entrées: 3 Desserts: 4 Service/Atmosphere: 5
