Don’t waste your time or money. After a long drive thru wait the food was sparse and the meat very dry. The long wait despite an empty restaurant should have been my first clue. Spent $ 25 for two, two meat plates that, at best would have filled 1 person! Never going back.

This is the first time I ate at Dickies. I had lunch here today. I ordered the two meat meal, I had the pulled pork & brisket. Food was average and I was dissapointed in the portion size for the money I spent. I left hungry and wonder why I wasted my time & money. I get tired of these places overcharging and underdelivering for their fast food style bbq.

I travel and entertain so when I’m in a city I ask the locals to pick a place. Dickies is just great BBQ. Finishing up with an ice-cream cone is a natural(and free). The service was good and the people cheerful.

Every time it’s a home run. Granted, sometimes they are out of what you want but they warn you on the website that later in the day it may happen!

I was pretty happy with this impulse dinner purchase. Service was friendly and portion sizes reasonable. Their sauce is a bit spicy, so I was glad it was on the side. I was a little surprised that the pulled pork sandwich did not come with coleslaw, as that is pretty standard with most places I’ve gone to. Despite that, the coleslaw is pretty good, as well as the beans. The ribs were so flavorful you don’t actually need sauce, and they fall right off the bone. The potato salad was a bit bland, the roll had a sweet flavor which was nice, and the mac and cheese was very cheesy. All in all a good meal.

Best dickeys in salt lake, they make the food right and service is awesome it is a little pricey but you have to consider the type of meat they’re serving you.

I have been to many Dickeys in the past and this was the worst experience! Everything from small portions to bones in my pulled pork. I might give them another shot but honestly i now know why the place was empty during prime dinner hour! Terrible! The staff was very friendly and helpful however they were very skimpy on the food. I ordered the 3 meat plate which consisted of super dry brisket, pork full of bones and sausage that was way overcooked and rubbery. Last but not least ever since eating there last night i have been spending a lot of time in the bathroom. This place is just not worth it! There are many other mom and pop bbq in salt lake that i would easily choose over this.

First thing is the smell, second… the staff! Immediately felt like they knew me! Offering samples of whatever I wasn’t sure about, service is prompt and details are key for them. I’ll keep coming back to this place for sure!

I went to Dickeys for the second time yesterday. I’ll keep coming too. The food was great and the free ice cream was the icing on the cake!

How have I never been here before today?! I got the 2 meat plate with ribs and brisket and I was in heaven. To put it into context I think it was better than Pat’s BBQ in SLC which I thought was amazing until now. My husband, who is an extremely picky meat eater because he hates the fatty parts. took a bite of my rib and declared it to be the best he’s had in years! The staff were super friendly and awesome, and the portion sizes were perfect unless you are into over eating, i’m not judging. And they give free soft serve ice cream, who knew? I highly recommend it

A strange thing happened today. For the first time since Q4U quit serving red beans and rice and collard greens, I actually finished both sides that I got with a BBQ plate. I think now is as good of a time as any to pontificate a bit on chains. Skip ahead to the next paragraph if it’s too much, but the reason I dislike chains and don’t tend to review them and that I lean towards local is not because chains are too big to need the money. The recent failure of several should tell us that’s not the case. Besides supporting the local economy, I want food that is special and made with care and is, of course, tasty and a good value. That’s the primary consideration ultimately and a lot of local shops fail utterly at this. With chains, to meet the mass consumption requirement, a lot of things are done to food in processing, to make it cheap and to give it some shelf life that tend to detract heavily from the taste and quality. BBQ is especially susceptible to this, but Dickey’s has found a way to make BBQ both scale-able and still put it in the upper echelon of whatever city it happens to be in. In several cities, it is probably the best restaurant of its type. As to those delicious sides, I had the jalapeño beans and the fried okra. The beans, in particular, were magnificent, one of the best sides I’ve had at any restaurant. The okra was no shame, either. Certainly it was not up to the level of R & R, but it is better than every other okra I’ve tried except that, so a second, but that second is still distant. The bun was ok, nothing special there. The free ice cream was about what you’d expect, bland soft-serve vanilla, but free, so why not. Coke Zero mix was competent but nothing spectacular, though I was thrilled they had it. As to the sauces and Q, of the five sauces I had, I wouldn’t bother with the sweet BBQ or the BBQ ranch again. The regular ranch was just ok, regular BBQ was a bit better than the spicy, but both were again, mostly competent, though the backstory of the Original(regular) BBQ sauce was somewhat entertaining. They were also served hot, which was a nice touch. I was given the wrong meat plate, but after having them throw in a rib bone, I just rolled with it, so wound up trying 4. The ham, which was unusual enough I wanted to try it, was dried out and again, tasted ok, but nothing too great. Both the brisket and pulled pork were fairly moist, though they tasted more similar than different ultimately. They melded well with the sauces and were probably closer to good than just ok. The ribs were more into very good, bordering on great territory. The rub, with a delicate hint of sweetness and the perfect way they were cooked, the wonderful smoky flavor, I would definitely throw down on a rack of these and forsake all else(except maybe the okra and beans) with no hesitation. These are ribs on a stunning level for anyone, let alone for a chain and were the star of the show here. Service here was very good and really drove this thing from 3.5 stars to 4… well that and those fantastic ribs and the beans, I guess. Everything else was probably more like 3.5 or lower(the décor, though amusing in spots, was nothing too special), but when you have staff that actually cares, that is friendly and seems to genuinely want you to have a great experience, it counts.

Portion sizes were fairly small for the price I paid. There’s several other authentic BBQ restaurants in SLC that give you more food for less money and they’re just as good. In the time we were there two homeless men walked in and helped themselves to the free ice cream in back. Several workers saw and didn’t say anything. Maybe they were feeling compassionate that day or afraid they’s get stabbed in the neck if they confronted them. Either way, I felt uneasy with them huddled around helping themselves to ice cream. Nothing against the homeless, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with telling them it’s for paying customers only. I felt like I was dining in a homeless shelter. When it comes to BBQ in SLC this ranks at the bottom for me. I’ll probably never eat here again.

Summary: Stay away from the brisket, but I think other things are OK. I admit it, I’m a bit of a BBQ snob. After spending three years in Central Texas, I come to expect the best of smoked meats. I do like saucy BBQ, too, but only in certain circumstances and on certain meats. It’s with that probably biased mentality that I entered Dickey’s, a franchise BBQ joint on 300 West right next to Costco. I ordered a two meat plate, which comes with two sides. I chose Okra and their baked/mashed potatoes. To my surprise, they also offer complimentary big dill pickles and free ice cream. Still, $ 15 for franchise BBQ + a drink seems a little much. I’m pretty sure my meat didn’t come from the smoker, but rather came from the hot box. And in the brisket, you could tell. Bad cuts, tough, dry, and utterly lacking in smoke flavor. I could not discern a rub on the outside of the meat, and there was hardly any smoke ring. The ribs, though, were actually pleasant. They easily fell off the bone and worked in harmony with Dickey’s signature BBQ sauce – a little runnier than KC style, with a bit of a snappy vinegar taste. Sort of like if you put KC, Texas, and Memphis styles in a blender and mixed them all up. They were fatty and moist and pretty good eatin’. They probably withstand the hotbox better. The sides were fine. Okra tasted like it was frozen out of a bag, but still a good approximation. The potatoes were a little underseasoned, but still had that mashy-sour creamy-chivey-bacony-stuffed-baked-smashed taste that gets me. Ambiance is a big bust. They try for the vintage look, with old school wood paneling and a chair rail and vintage signs. But it doesn’t work– the vintage signs are too obviously replicas and there aren’t enough of them on the walls to cover up the bad paneling. And then the modern arching track lighting looks like it came right from Ikea. Thank goodness they have flat screens to watch(sound off) to distract me. I will probably never go back to Dickey’s, but the ribs make me think it’s not so bad. If I had to go back, I’d stick to the ribs, or other meats that go better with sauce. Just stay away from the brisket.

This place isn’t very good. The only reason I came here was because someone gave me a card for a free sandwich when you buy a drink. I went with the pulled pork sandwich which was dry and didn’t have very much flavour. The bbq sauces were okay, with the spicy one being my favourite. I did like the pickle jar and it was nice that they give you free ice cream. The service was friendly add quick, which was nice. Also, the restaurant appeared clean. It’s just too bad that food isn’t very good, especially since I have 1 more free sandwich card. Good thing Costco is across the street, otherwise my free sandwich card would go to waste.
