If you are taking the train in the morning from Gallivan Plaza it’s pretty hard to find a coffee plaza that is open at 6:30am. This place opens super early though which makes it convenient to grab a cappuccino while you wait for the train. They are quick, put a smile on your face and put some love into making their coffee. Really tasty roast — certainly better than what Starbucks usually has to offer. Really like this place. Don’t forget to get their punch card.

Good coffee, nice location, but HORRIBLE slow internet. So slow it’s unusable for work. Apparently it’s usually like that. This is why I’m only giving 2 stars, having a solid wifi connection is a priority for me.

My favorite morning routine with my coworkers. The staff is always friendly and they’ve got a great selection of gluten-free goodies. Coffee is yum too, plus it’s a cool environment being right next to the bookstore. I’ve already completed two punch cards there!

Great service with a good latte. They make their lattes hot — a little too hot. But once it cools down it sure is a tasty treat. They keep me coming back because their lattes are a double shot and the small lattes are only $ 3. I feel like everywhere else charges me more and some other places are only giving me a single shot of espresso! Is it the best latte that SLC has to offer? No, not in my opinion. But their lattes still rock and for the price, I’ll keep coming by. They also have a huge list of additional flavors and an incredible tea selection. Their menu on the wall seems small, but that’s just because they only put the basics up there(latte, cappuccino, breve, etc). If you’re not sure what you want, the baristas are always so helpful and nice here. They will help you find a drink or customize something to your liking. However, I just order an 8 or 12 ounce latte with whole milk. No need to add anything else to this delicious concoction!

Location was great, people were SUPER nice, but my latte had that sort of burned flavor you sometimes get from less-than-great espresso drinks. In this particular latte, it was so bad that I couldn’t taste the vanilla syrup that I watched the barista put in it. I wouldn’t condemn the place for one bad drink, but I’m not exactly inspired to return, either.

I think because I LOVE The Coffee Garden over on 9th&9th so much, I expected this one to be just as thrilling, but not quite. They still have great lattes here, but the original location has better pastries and treats, which is half the reason I go there.(the eclairs are addictive!) I also love that at the original shop, the store is bright and well-lit, unlike this one, which is tucked away in an antique bookstore, so it’s quite dark, and not a great place to go work at. Staff here gets swapped with 9th&9th, but they seem much happier over there than at this downtown location, which I think is a reflection of how dark this location is inside.

My new go to coffee spot. It’s right off the green and blue lines of trax which makes it super convenient especially in the mornings. They’re located inside of Eborn Books and are thankfully open early(I’ve swing through about 6:30, I’m not sure they’re exact hours). The space is small but clean with a decent number of tables and chairs. They have a good assortment of pastries in the morning including 2 – 3 types of croissants that are delicious and house made scones, which I haven’t had yet because croissants. The also have a cold case with other goodies, usually a quiche, cookies and cakes. As with everywhere else there are baristas who make my drink perfectly and those who don’t. You cant expect greatness from 100% of the employees. But even the one’s who aren’t prefect make a damn good cup of coffee. I’ve really only had their au lait because it’s my favorite drink. They do a great job on the ratio and a nice thick foam. They offer an assortment of syrups for a small fee but also have various sugars and simple syrup on the milk counter. I’m 99% sure they use café Ibis which is a great local coffee roaster and results in a a nice smooth and balanced flavor. The prices are very reasonable. For a bigger better cup I pay more than a $ 1 less than at Starbucks. And they’re significantly cheaper than the more upscale local spots. They also have a punch card. I think 12 punches gets you a free drink. I highly suggest if you’re looking for a nice local coffee spot to check them out. Just not as 6:30 M-F because I don’t want to have to wait.

Got an iced coffee and the taste wasn’t very flavorful or distinctive. Not bad but didn’t tantalize my tastebuds enough. Was hoping for a little more oomph.

Great independent coffee shop. The service is great as well. I’ve tried about everything but mainly have drip coffee and shots in the dark. So tasty!

I got an iced white mocha after someone suggested it to me. It was extremely bland, not sure if they just had an off day, or the guy who made it didn’t know what he was doing or what. I will try again and hopefully it will be better

Coffee is great but wi-fi is kind of slow. So for those of us looking to work remotely– it’s something to keep in mind. Otherwise quick and friendly service! Update: no bathrooms!!! I just frantically scurried across SLC trying to find an establishment open between 2−5pm… with cold sweats and panic in my eyes.

I’ve been here enough times to know that, if you’re at work and can’t handle the generic coffee(or work), take a stroll outside and head over to Coffee Garden. Walking towards the store(married nicely with a bookstore), you’ll slowly feel energized! Perhaps it’s the thought of that nice, piping hot cup of brew — or the blood beginning to circulate throughout your body again but who really wants to be technical? The service always picks me up. Cheerful, loud, and funny — they might not know that they’re awesome, or why they see you more times in a day than they see their families at night — but one thing is certain — quality coffee is served here(compared to the generic stuff at work). I’ll see you again soon!.. like. daily. :x

Upgrading to 5 stars because of the stellar service. Not only will the coffee pick you up, but the awesome guys behind the counter are always fun to have a convo with and are always in a great mood, which is contagious :)

This is such a great local place to get some work done and have nice coffee with pastries. The staff are super friendly and welcoming! They are very caring and invested in the business. The place is a little deceiving from the outside bcs you can’t tell how spacious it is from the window. So, just go in, give it a try and enjoy yourself!

This location is convenient and quiet. Found just across the street from the Gallivan Plaza TRAX station, you really can’t get much closer to convenient location… maybe next door to your house… but otherwise! They have a small but interesting selection of teas and coffee too, I guess: P I’m not so interested in coffee, so I’m not really able to provide any info on that… Their hours are convenient; with early weekend hours and hours into the early evening. If you’re wanting a midnight cup then, well, this place won’t work, but the _other_half of the day, come on by! The only real down side of this location is that you might walk past it and not realize it. It shares a space with a book store, so you have to go into the book store to enter the café. Otherwise, it’s a nice location and never too busy, from what I’ve seen.

The worst latte I’ve ever had. I ordered an iced soy latte. I noticed the barista guy added hot expresso to my plastic cup, then soy, then ice. I’ve been a barista, and when you make it that way, it turns out luke warm, watery, and sometimes even tastes like plastic. I mentioned this to the guy and he said, «You make your lattes your way, and I’ll make them my way.» Fair enough dude, but your attitude stinks and your lattes are worse.

Perhaps it’s best to get in a review while you know you still can. I haven’t been here for several weeks, but with change a-comin’ to Sam Weller’s I haven’t heard what the Coffee Garden folks plan to do in their space, or what the old bookstore space will become. What I do know, is that for everything that the 9th&9th Coffee Garden is, this location tends to drift in the opposite direction. Whereas its big brother is a place to idle away your day in front of a laptop, this downtown sibling is where you go to get your cup of caffeine. Sure, there are a few tables for lounging and with a bookstore nearby(in the same space) you get the loiterers, but the folks at the counter are ready to get you a hot bevvy and get you back on to Main Street if you’re in a rush. It’s a foot traffic kind of place. It just may not be worth it to drive here and try to park on Main just for a cup of coffee. But I imagine it’s the perfect stop for someone working nearby, visiting business professionals, or ever the occasional stay-at-home downtown tour de café.
