Customer service in my experience is not a priority in this store. The high prices should include exceptional personal service. Return policy is harsh especially if you are buying a gift for someone… better make double sure it fits before you sign on the dotted line.

Bastille has a great selection of brands although in the last few years it seems seasonally behind, still sporting winter colors and fabrics well into spring and summer. I shop many of these brands while traveling and have bought things that have shown up at Bastille a whole season(or year) later. Maybe earlier and more aggressive mark downs would help turn over inventory quicker? When something is months old, it should go on sale. I’ve mostly shopped at the gateway location and despite some choppy customer service have remained a steady customer for especially their Gstar jeans. This week I got the regular presale email. Lots if regular items on Sale, a presale plus 10% off everything in store for preferred customers. As I arrived I was greeted without anyone telling me about sale. I found a bunch of racks with red dot on tags but when I asked what dots were for(hoping presale) I was told it was marked for inventory purposes only. I found a nice dress in the regular sale area marked down to $ 100. As I was paying I pulled up my email and asked about the 10% off. The man behind the register answers that that is for presale only. I said«well what’s presale items then?» I get a reply from another associate that everything marked in red dots is 40% off for presale customers. «Oh, we’ll I wish I would have known that was all on sale, I wasn’t told when I asked» I replied. After having gone through all those clothes thinking they were regularly priced I simply didn’t have it in me to go through them all again. Frustrating. «So what about 10% on everything in store as listed in email?» I show him the email. He replies that he can give the 10% but that I will have to pay now and pick up dress on Saturday. Why??? Talk about making it difficult for someone trying desperately to shop the sale in their store. Argh!!! I waited for him to be decent and give me the 10% off since the sale and extra discount was the whole reason I made the special trip there and now I missed both. Silence. I finally said«oh well I guess it’s not worth $ 10 for me to come all the way back here on Saturday». Clueless of golden opportunity to treat a loyal customer with some proper customer service, he took my $ 100 and wished me a good day. Felt like stomping out of there like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. «Big mistake, HUGE»! The money doesn’t bother me really but how easily he dismissed and confused a clearly loyal customer who was trying to get the deal the email had advertised. In today’s economy, that kind of «service» is downright stupid.

Great brands, awesome customer service, and fun employees for sure. If you want to wear something nice and different and make sure no one else will be wearing the same, then this might be your place. It’s definitely on the expensive side, but it’s worth it. Everything I have gotten from Bastille has always been awesome, and don’t have the fear of knowing that someone will have it, as I do with Urban Outfitters. Plus, it’s local and we gotta boost dem local bizzzz. My favorite thing overall is when they have sales and whatnot, you get a personalized email from the person that helped you before, letting you know you have first pick for the sales — that makes this business jump into a better category than any other clothing store I’ve been to in SLC. I like that.

Okay so maybe Bastille doesn’t quite deserve a 5-star rating, because no, it’s not the perfect shopping experience. It is however a great store. As a man, this is the best you’re going to get in Utah if you’re looking for a solid variety of hip, fashionable clothing for people who know how to dress themselves. Think APC, Gitman Brothers, Band of Outsiders, Top Man, Saturdays, Acne. Oh and half the store is G-Star, and there’s lots of RVCA, but I don’t really care for those brands. This is not H&M, Banana Republic, or Urban Outfitters; some of the prices might be a little high for some, but keep looking and you’ll find wide range of pricing. Also near the end of each season this place has killer sales. The other reviews have mentioned how bad the service is. I’ve had nothing but exceptional and personable service. Don’t go in there acting like a brat or with an inferiority complex because everyone there is dressed better than you and you should be fine. When trying stuff on staff has been very helpful with checking for sizes. Sometimes they seem a little bit understaffed when there’s a rush of say, a bunch wealthy hip Japanese types, but I’m a pretty patient guy so it doesn’t bother me, and the staff seems to appreciate it.

Wow, two thumbs down for customer service. Granted, high-end industries gear toward elitist mentalities, but god good, the guy operating the register was a snob! However, since I cannot argue with«store policy,» Tanner, let me just outline this for you — IFYOURRECEIPTSDONOTOUTLINEANEXCHANGEPOLICY, YOUSHOULDHONORTHEITEM’S RETURN! Obviously, one would expect to be declined after what is considered a standard 30 days, but as a customer never having returned G-star merchandise, I feel it’s unfair for me to AUTOMATICALLYKNOWSTOREPOLICY. The item in question was lovely, but because it was received as a gift, it turned out to be a size too large. Now I’m stuck with a $ 200 lump in my closet, when I could have otherwise donned some killer jeans and promoted G-star further by looking hot in them. In short, trendy brands and nice apparel are not worth the cost of poor shopping experiences. I love to shop. I want to shop happy. Therefore, Bastille will never again be included in my purchasing experiences. P. S. The policy mentioned grants return within 14 days. Clearly they are not flexible at, so think twice before gifting or buying with uncertainty from this merchant.
