There’s always the eternal question of what makes a good bar. The differences start to come in when you ask it to do other things, like be a music venue, but one truth is universal. You can’t have a good bar without access to the booze and here, depending on when you belly up in line, that access becomes highly in question. Getting the cold ones into the people’s gropey hands is not set up at all well here, resulting in repeated queues, unless you wait until they get to rocking out and then go and miss the rocking out yourself. While I’d say it is normally a good idea to bring along a non-drinking buddy, if not for transport, here it is also dual purpose so at least you can double up on drinks to cut that wait down some. Taken as an audience member, this place is just ok. I hate the beams everywhere. That part is kind of annoying and there’s not a ton of places to just sit and chill. I thought I saw pool tables and the bathroom seemed generally acceptable as well. If I was playing a show there, I’d really like the stage. It’s one of the better ones. Sound was pretty hit or miss all night, though, but that’s par for the course here and nothing too out of the ordinary. This place does have a ton of potential, but given the penchant for places like this in Salt Lake to shoot for just«good enough» and stop there, I don’t hold out much hope of improvement, which makes this a venue to hit only if someone I really want to see play(or if my band somehow resurrects and I wind up playing there) happens to be booked for a show.

Did you shower? No? Well that’s OK, because this is not the cleanest of venues. But seriously, unless you’re going to the ballet you don’t expect an overly clean crowd at a concert. Especially a reggae concert. I was here for Stick Figure. It was awesome. My buddy DJ Rock Solid did the sound and it was fantastic, especially since even at it’s most packed this place could only fit maybe 200 people. So it’s a small, but not cramped, which leads to a really cool feeling. All of the acts were excellent, and the bartenders were pretty good. Prices weren’t excellent, but at a show what do you expect? I’ll definitely be on a lookout for future shows here as I enjoyed the experience. I digress back to the cleanliness however. CLEAN isn’t necessarily expected, but it IS appreciated. So yeah, throw some fresh paint and a wet rag over all the walls and floors and grab a 5th star.

Chill fun bar, but not the best. Drink are pretty cheap, but the atmosphere its just okay. It’s chill, but not WHOAAAA. I think everyone should go check it out and see for themselves, it’s just a different scene.

I have played many many many venues in SLC and PC, and toured through the UT market for the past 5 years, but Bar Deluxe is by far my favorite spot in the state. They have a great sound system, extremely friendly and workable staff but most importantly they have their money right. In the past I had been repeatedly screwed by another venue I used to regularly play at, which I will refrain from mentioning, but ever since I moved to Bar D I have been treated with a mutual respect and desire to succeed. They also promote well for their shows, which always helps :) Whenever I’m in SLC on downtime I always bring my friends down to the spot and it’s always a really good time. Those 4 walls have a great energy and the cheap drinks don’t hurt either!!! For lack of a third thumb, I give Bar Deluxe 2 big thumbs up

On a few occasions, I have drummed at Bar Deluxe. I would like to drum at Bar Deluxe more often. When I’ve been here, it’s always been a nice, chill place. Good drinks, and a good place to relax before going on stage. The sound has always been very good, on the stage and off. In the past, they haven’t been too pro-active with getting other bands to fill out the bill, but it seems they’ve been getting better at that recently. Sometimes they get touring acts, and I wish maybe that they got more, because I’d like to go to more shows here.

I don’t demand much from a bar. You know, just open the doors, keep it clean, be nice, and you’re pretty much getting a matching set of five stars from me. Oh, and don’t rip me off. Cheap drinks are a bonus(plenty to choose from at Bar Deluxe) and I get a little annoyed with cover charges. On the night I visited Bar Deluxe there wasn’t a cover, but I hear that there often is. I totally get it if they have a show going on. Papa’s gotta pay the piper, and the piper is playing on stage. They’ve put some money into the sound system here, and Jake, the owner, takes a lot of pride in mixing the sound right. So don’t freak out if there is a cover, just decide if you want to come in for a good show or not. And there are often shows going on here. The small stage is in the very back of the building, with more of a hangout place in the front. Right now it’s a very show-centric bar, but there are talks of partitioning the front of the bar off and having the shows go on in the back so you’d pay your cover there and be able to hang out up front, show or no show. Either way, they’ve got a nice vibe here. So it’s not just a music venue. And not just a bar. And dive bar feels all wrong. But it’s not a neighborhood bar either. The crowd was young, not altogether hipster, but definitely energetic. And friendly. It’s tough to nail this one down, but what you’re really got is a bunch of people who have planned on coming in for a night out. And Bar Deluxe gives them just that. No hassle, some space, and a small stage. Sounds good to me.

So, cool bar. Very chill, holds a lot of people. My first visit was for an art show reception and it was nice and laid back. Beers are cheap and the layout is simple. Inthe front of the bar you’ve got your pool tables and whatnot and towards the bak section is the stage. Somewhere in the middle lies the bar, which turned into a huge bottleneck on my second visit which was a much larger, packed event, the Miss City Weekly Pageant. There was both a bottleneck and not enough bar staff to handle the demand which led to a crowd of cranky sober revelers and not the most fun time. I will definitely hit this bar up again, though. The staff is friendly, it’s spacious and it just has a good vibe.

Place has a cool and different feel to it. Nice staff and Jake is a really cool guy. If you are going to see a band, it’ll be loud but the sound will be great.

Bar Deluxe has changed names and owners many times over the past several years. Most recently it was called Club Ego’s and before the no indoor smoking laws were passed Ego’s was disgusting. Thankfully the laws went into effect last year and Bar Deluxe is now much nicer. The building itself is very long with pool tables in front, the bar in the middle, an area with some booths and tables and then the stage. I’ve been to a lot of local shows here over the years and always been impressed. Unlike a lot of venues Bar Deluxe has good people running sound and a good sound system. When I go to see a music show I like to hear the music, not just distortion. Most shows get started at 10am or so but the crowds usually don’t fill in until closer to 11pm or 11:30pm. Overall Bar Deluxe is a pretty decent place to get a drink and her some live music. has reasonable drink prices and a friendly staff. You can’t ask for much more.

This was my introduction to going to bars in Utah. and they popped my cherry well. after we parked and were walking to the place me being a LA native i had zero clue about icy sidewalks. bamn to the ground i went. but gracefully .as a witness said. So once inside its pretty dead its a weekday, its early. I like this place. good vibes. bartender was really cool. but i think having my chaperon helped on that note. This is also a Venue from live music to burlesque shows and I’m telling you now if you got the chance to see the Slippery Kittens go see them cool bunch of ladies and they can drink and party. a shout out to the lovely Nina for showing me around SLC and to the kittens… miss Dia .you are to fine. the bartender was apologetic about the ice and when we left the sidewalk had been salted. that is what gave this place that 5th star . on a somber note .this is Utah. and the Laws are weird at best. a large tip will not get you a stiffer drink as it would in… LA but they do make up for that in the service and hospitality. If you like tattoos. roackabilly, ska, punk, and just whatever kinda rock and some of the finest ladies in town. . head on over to this spot. dont let the address scare you. let it lure you :) If this spot was in Hollywood … the line would last till 2am to get in, lol .but then again. the people here are just NICE in Utah. i dont think i heard one horn honk. or one argument the entire week we were there. it was like out of hitchcock or something twightlight zoned in. i kept lookin around for that kid that kept wishing everybody away. lol
