Don’t bother just get the refrigerated pizza at walmat. Very disappointed very skimpy with the cheese and toppings crust not even average.

Wow, did I feel betrayed by the glowing recommendation on the Roanoke College website. «You’ll feel like you’re in New York…» I really didn’t. The staff were very friendly, but my pizza was really kind of bland. The sauce was just OK, but the cheese was pretty disappointing. It reminded me of something you would get on top of a frozen pizza. On the bright side, it was cheap. I probably won’t return, however.

I was visiting my father, and he wanted to go out for pizza. Naturally, as I’d never been to Salem before, he asked me to find a place. I picked here. It was very close to the college, as I later found out, so expect lots of college kids. I am from PA and I’m quite particular about my pizza shops. A pizza shop should be casual, sell pizza by the slice, have subs and offer Sicilian pies. It doesn’t have Sicilian, but we decided to let that pass. The menu has a very good selection. We opted for an X-Large 18″ All Meat pizza. I didn’t order one, but they sell beer too. And the prices are quite reasonable on that as well. When the pizza came, I was immediately impressed with the size. How often do you order a 18″ pie and it’s actually 18+”? And the toppings – oh my, were there toppings! It was loaded with meat, unlike comparable pies that you would buy at large chains. The pizza came out hot and was quite good. All in all, a great place with great food. I was impressed, and now my father has a place to go buy a real Italian hoagie. Do stop in!

This is not a fancy place, and it doesn’t try to be. A small step up off of its entrance on Main Street in Salem, and you walk into a small restaurant with a counter up front. They sell pizza, pasta, subs in a casual atmosphere. I can only comment on the pasta I had the day I went. Craving Chicken Parmesan, I stopped in here alone on a Saturday afternoon. The only other people in the restaurant were 4 young college students, but people came in periodically to order pizza. The staff was very sweet and nice and didn’t treat me like some other restaurants with waiter service when you come in alone(ie. badly). I ordered unsweetened ice tea and it came with no accompanying sweetener packets and I had to ask for some. I was told politely that they only have sugar, and brought me some in a little glass bowl with a spoon. That was fine, and they were sweet about it, but I think some sweetener packets would be worth the investment, or bring your own. My Chicken Parmesan was served in a baked tin, covered with cheese and came with a plate of garlic bread – which was half of one of their sub rolls split and buttered, again, fine with me. It all tasted great but everything was processed – Ragu sauce, dried pasta that was cooked, what I’m certain was a Swanson’s frozen breaded chicken patty cut up and sprinkled on top. It was tasty, if not a little watery, and I scarfed it down because I was starving. Who knows how I’d feel if I had ordered something else or I wasn’t as hungry, but it fit the bill and got me over my craving, so yay! there. I would go back. I think they have a good thing going and again, I haven’t tried their pizza, what they are famous for. Kudos to them for really expanding their menu to suit any taste, and for hiring very friendly staff. Don’t expect the Ritz, it’s not that, but I’d give it a try.
