Made my first visit today and I will certainly be a regular customer. Some of the best, freshest sushi I’ve eaten. The price is very reasonable, and selection is outstanding. It came highly recommended and I wasn’t disappointed.

I’ve been to O’Sushi at least five times in the last six months. Today was the last time I will ever eat there. I usually get the seaweed salad along with many different types of sushi. I eat sushi often and I’m used to the taste of fish, I have no problem with the oft complained about ‘fishy’ taste. Today, as per usual, I got the seaweed salad along with other sushi. I ate the sushi first as I was saving the seaweed salad for last, since it is my favorite. Unfortunately, my first bite of seaweed salad was bitter and off tasting. I mentioned this to the server, who took it to the back. I assumed she would tell the kitchen and they would make up a new batch. She returned telling me they order it from Pacific Seafood, it comes out of a bag, and that they had opened a new bag of it yesterday. She told me the manager/owner said I would have to pay for it. I said that I didn’t want to since I had only taken one bite and it was clearly bad. Next, the owner came out and told me I had to pay for it since they can’t have people trying everything and putting it back. I agree that just because you try something and don’t like it, you shouldn’t be able to just send it back. It is another thing entirely if it tastes like it carries a food borne illness. I would think their business wouldn’t want people to get sick and would investigate the issue. They should have been thankful that I pointed it out. I told her I had eaten it before and that this one simply tasted like it had gone bad. She refused to understand my situation acting offended and like I was trying to get out of it because I was just dumb and didn’t like the taste of it in general. O’sushi does not care about their customers and clearly does not care about repeat business leaving. I will tell everyone I know about this situation and never recommend this place again, though I have in the past.

I have probably gone to O Sushi 20 times in the last 2yrs, and it has maintained a very consistent quality of both service and food. As far as affordable conveyor belt sushi I am not sure you’ll get any better. Yes, many of the rolls contain crab salad, and sometimes a few of the rolls have a little bit more mayonnaise than necessary, but overall the sushi is always fresh, the fish is decent quality, if not amazing, for the price it is pretty damn good. The chicken Katsu is good(it is made with frozen chicken patties, but given that, it’s still tasy, the sauce is really good), the tempura is generally pretty crispy and light, occasionally it’s not, but it’s probably light and crisp 90% of the time. They’re special order rolls are a little higher quality, and are very good, and still reasonably priced. I enjoy their Spider rolls, Volcano roll, and Rainbow roll the most. They’re seared salmon is usually good as well. I enjoy the fact that I can ask the ingredients of anything and get the list of ingredients because very nearly everything is made fresh and home made. Also, I go around closing all the time and they make fresh stuff for me, never had an issue with that all. They got upset when I ordered a volcano roll close to close but they still made it, and that’s all I care about. As for the staff, the sushi chef is awesome! The lady whom is always there is the owner, I talk to her every time we come in. She is definitely frequently stressed, but if you had to deal with the stress of people not showing up for work, working seven days a week, and sudden rushes while understaffed, I think you might feel a bit differently. I have seen her there with only one other staff member handle an underfilled belt, and dishes constantly piling up with a constant dinner rush because the girl who was supposed to work just did not show up, and they had to make do. She never stopped moving, and neither did the sushi chef, but when you have 20 – 30 people eating, and 2 people on staff, a back up should be expected. This is not a perfect restaurant, but you’d be hard pressed to find one, if you have any problems, I would bring it up with the only, she will fix it. She might be stressed, but she does want to run a good restaurant and make sure people are happy. :) I know this because she has always treated us well when we come in, i just have the understanding that when you’re understaffed, you wont get optimal attention. God Bless ~Amy

Rating dropped back down. The lady who is always there needs to chill out and clean up. I wanted to eat sushi and there was a huge mess. She wouldn’t clean off a spot or get me a box when I told her I would take it to go back to my office. I just wanted lunch. If you need sushi in Salem, there are better places.

Fun dining experience and at a good price. Sushi is always fresh. Can get a little crowded during the lunch hours.

It’s a pretty decent place. It’s s little bright and j-pop bubblegum for my eclectic taste — but I still go there often. The food can only be described in the form of a humble brag: living in Japan, I have been exposed to some of the worlds top tier sushi. And while I would never put this McSushi in the same ballpark, I do find almost ever piece delectable and satisfying! I am, whether I like it or not, half American! Additionally, Food is dang cheap. Cheaper than most places than most. At $ 1.75 per plate(regardless of what you get), who care about the presentation. Finally it’s located downtown. That definitely adds to the area current revival(read as: gentrification) which is important for me because I was confusing downtown with spinsterhood. The restaurant doesn’t «WOW» me, but definitely a place you’ll go for a quick bite or you’d take a sibling to whom you’re being nice, but only because you need something from them.(You know who you are)

If you go at closing time, they will not prepare any new orders for you. All the sushi was old, cold, and not fresh. maybe if I went earlier it would change my opinion, but for now I would not recommend it.

Just got done eating sushi. I usually go to sushi land for my favorite sushi. But me and my boyfriend were feeling optimistic to new sushi joints. The server was sweet but I’m sorry their sushi was really bad. My boyfriend can also contest to that. We probably won’t come back but we tried.

Discovered this place while visiting Salem. Very cool revolving sushi joint! This place has a nice vibe with a modern/contemporary décor with house music playing. It was clean and spacious. The waitress was very attentive and friendly. The food was fresh with a great variety and decently priced. Love the baked stuffed mushrooms.

I wanted two things when I walked in here. Cheap food and something that vaguely tasted like sushi. I got both. The sushi’s okay but don’t have high expectations for them– if you’re a traditionalist or come from a town with really, really good sushi options then you’re going to be very disappointed. It’s conveyor belt sushi, which is also great if you’re a misanthrope or socially anxious. Virtually no human contact while you’re eating and the place is never crowded. Again, it’s very cheap. You’ll be paying about $ 1.75 per plate. I tried a few samples from all over the belt– octopus, a soggy California roll with rice that almost fell apart when I grabbed at it, egg, and salmon. Wasn’t the freshest– salmon tasted just a little off but at least the rolls circulate quickly and don’t stay on the line for too long. Would I come here again? Maybe, if I wanted something quick and cheap. Probably wouldn’t come here if I was bringing along anyone else or had someone to impress. Restaurant is a lot cleaner than I remember, which is a huge plus, and at least the staff seemed somewhat friendly.

If you’re looking for cheap and quick sushi this is a good spot! Some of the sushi looked like it had gone around a few too many times, and a little more selection would have been nice, but I now know next time I can make special requests.

Summery: I am a disabled person with a service dog. Today(4−23−15) this establishment attempted to refuse serviced based on my need for a service animal, I was eventually seated and given very poor service/outright ignored due to my having a service animal. Review: Around 1pm, during the slow part of lunch, I went with a friend to eat at this establishment. Immediately upon entering we were stopped by a waitress and told that«they don’t want dogs in here, ever». I proceed to state that she was a service animal, it was illegal to refuse me service based on my having her, and offered to give them an ADA law card. After leaving us standing among onlookers for five minutes while the server, whom I don’t find in the wrong for doing as she was told, talked to her manager, we finally got the verdict that we could stay, because it was not busy and there where not many people there. «Even though they have the right to refuse anyone they wish», as long as we sat at the table near the end of the room, right next to the door out. After sitting down at a table too small to house both the service animal I have, and the company I was eating with, we were moved AGAIN, this time to the back of the restaurant, and then ignored us whole visit(its self serve conveyer belt sushi, but we still had waters to fill and orders we could have made) The Americans with Disabilities Act ruling on Service Animals, as seen in Title III, 36.302 Modifications in policies, practices, or procedures. Item C, Parts 1 — 7 A person with a disability cannot be asked to remove his service animal from the premises unless:(1) the dog is out of control and the handler does not take effective action to control it or(2) the dog is not housebroken. When there is a legitimate reason to ask that a service animal be removed, staff must offer the person with the disability the opportunity to obtain goods or services without the animal’s presence. Establishments that sell or prepare food must allow service animals in public areas even if state or local health codes prohibit animals on the premises. People with disabilities who use service animals cannot be isolated from other patrons, treated less favorably than other patrons, or charged fees that are not charged to other patrons without animals. In addition, if a business requires a deposit or fee to be paid by patrons with pets, it must waive the charge for service animals. It is upsetting that this establishment, which has so many favorable reviews, took it upon themselves to challenge and break the law and create a hostile experiences for myself and the clients who had to witness the exchange while doing so. I hope other disabled persons who need service animals see this review and know that this restaurant has discriminated against peoples with special needs, and had no qualms about doing so.

Not a bad place for lunch. Prices are reasonable. The portion sizes are nice. Not a huge selection of fresh fish items at lunch. My 6 year old LOVED it. The service staff is nice and the place is clean and busy. I am not a fan of cream cheese OR lettuce in my sushi rolls… the sauces were tasty, though.

Great place! Right around the corner from work, and can get in and out in my 30 minute lunch break with plenty of time to spare! The staff are extremely nice, one in particular is always so very welcoming, and recognizes me right away. I wish I had her name! The sushi is great. The only downfall, and the reason I give it 4 stars is because the variety. I’ve been there a lot, and I have seen it on busy days and slow days. No matter what, the variety isn’t there. And a lot of them are heavily covered in sauce, so it’s hard to tell what’s what. I’ve had a couple plates I didn’t care for. I just wish there was more to choose from. Anyway, love the place! Staff! Atmosphere! And the Philadelphia roll. ;) xo

WHATITIS: Conveyor belt«sushi» joint. Clean. Simple, modern design. Polite, helpful service. Convenient. Inexpensive. WHATITISNOT: Legitimate sushi. Expensive(unless you eat like a beast). Amazing. Life changing. I would take reviews such as this w/a grain of salt… «As a japanese national, it is truly sad to see that people think this is „sushi“. Folks, this is not sushi. This is a prime example of of non japanese people trying to make something that remotely resembling sushi and degrading our culture». As a japanese nat-… Sorry, a Japanese national, your first clue that this place wasn’t «legit» would have been the $ 1.75 plates advertised in the window. I’m confident that your«culture» will not only survive the onslaught of cheap«sushi» joints, but will continue to thrive and bring us amazing culinary delights. You need only to look to Mexico to be assured of this, as they have survived the all out war perpetrated by The likes of Taco Hell, Taco del Barf, and numerous other villainous corporate culinary pirates seeking to destroy our friends to the South. Context people, context.

Another terrible belt sushi in town. I think this place is marginally better than the other belt sushi place in town with some attempt to flavor the rice but not enough to earn two stars. Terrible sushi rice deserves no stars. Added to that the fish was no good. As a japanese national, it is truly sad to see that people think this is «sushi». Folks, this is not sushi. This is a prime example of non japanese people trying to make something that remotely resembles sushi and degrading our culture.

I enjoyed it. This is sushi fast food so I was not expecting momiji or Benihana. The belt moved plates that grouped in similar style foods but you can order what you want. But that was a problem because there were no pads of order sheets and it was impossible to get the waitress attention. She was busy cleaning the counters and empty plates. That was ok so I stood up walked 3 feet to the chef and ordered. No Bfd. It’s fast food service. I certainly would go back. It’s a great option for down town Salem.

What happened!?! Food is terrible now– why?! Old review: It’s as good as it gets for a sushi go round in Salem. Friendly staff and fast service. There specialty rolls are 8−9pc $ 8 each, much fancier fixings and very good quality. The restaurant is new so it has a nice modern feel a bit on the small side, but its has fast turn over since you can grab plates off the belt and start eating right away. $ 1.75 for all belt sushi.

It’s not top quality sushi by any means. Its conveyor belt sushi for $ 1.75/plate. You can’t beat that. Service was quick and friendly and what they didn’t have on the belt was kindly offered to be made.
