Caleb has been my stylist for several years. As far as service, he is everything you want in a professional — punctual, friendly, easy to schedule, responsive, listens to what your specific hair needs are. As a stylist, he is most excellent. Caleb is up on hair trends and can deliver hot, sexy, chic, urban just as easily as a classic style. His ability with color is very good. I have recommended Caleb/Metricc Salon countless times to strangers on the street that compliment my haircut and color. My hair, my look — it’s important to me and I have no issue paying for good quality and professional hair treatment. I get exactly what I want and need at Metricc. My biggest fear, as with most people once they find an excellent stylist, is that someday I might need to find a new stylist. I hope I never do! I can’t recommend a better hair salon — Metricc is the best.

As a belated birthday gift to my mom, I decided I wanted us to have a girls day that included getting our hair done at a nice studio. I’d read the reviews here on Unilocal and decided Caleb was the right choice. The studio was a bit hard to find, especially since he just gave us the address but failed to mention it was inside the Reed Opera House. We finally found it, and were a bit put off that his studio was located down in the unfinished basement. Honestly, had I gone alone, I likely would have left. I don’t mind if a business looks a bit rundown(the best seamstress in town lives in a craphole), but had I gone alone I wouldn’t have felt safe waiting in such an isolated part of the building and would have probably left. Caleb was on time, however, so I won’t begrudge him that. We went in and his one chair studio was pretty decent, if not a bit dirty(the floor had a light dusting of hair from previous clients). We decided my mother would go first. She told him that she wanted her hair colored to get rid of the grey and to have it trimmed/styled. He ended up giving her a very flattering and complex color that is close to what her natural hair looked like when she was younger. He also styled and trimmed it as well, which looked okay but really looks better now that she’s started styling it the way she usually does. As for my hair, I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted, other than for something different since my hair was all one length except for the awkwardly cut bangs I did myself. He decided to layer my hair with deep purple lowlights to enrich my natural brunette color which is really very beautiful. As for the styling, he ended up thinning it a bit and creating layers, as well as fixing my bangs so they blend in a bit more with the rest of my hair. He also diffused my hair which I’ve never done before, and it really brought out my natural curls. I loved it so much I went out and bought my own blowdryer/diffuser. In the end, it cost me $ 478 including the $ 58 tip(which I had no say in since I paid with my card and his phone only gave 3 options) and the $ 30 serum I got for my mom and I to split. We were very happy with our experience at first, especially since Caleb was a pretty good conversationalist(my adorable mother even gave him a hug). However, now that a few days have passed, we’ve both started to question whether the cost was worth the results. I believe my mother’s was worth it, but mine… not so much. Had I been able to see a drastic change in my hairstyle I wouldn’t have minded paying so much, but at this point I genuinely don’t notice much of a difference in my hair other than the color. He told us we should go in for a maintenance appointment in about two months, and guesstimated the cost would be around $ 110 for each of us. We were initially excited to go back, but at this point, we’ve both decided we’re likely going to find someplace else. Overall, I’d say the experience itself wasn’t bad but the cost weighed with the results could have been better.

I always get nervous when trying to find a new stylist for my curly, frizzy hair, but Caleb was amazing. He knows what he’s doing! I really appreciated his approach too. He would check with me often if the length was OK. If you’re looking for a new stylist this is the place!

I felt very confident going to this salon given the great reviews. Just goes to show you that trusting someone else’s opinion can get you in trouble. I liked Caleb as a person– he’s a great conversationalist and a nice guy. As a hair professional, forget it. To be fair, my hair is difficult to do. It’s very thick and wavy, with a tendency to be dry so I deep condition often. When I walked in, my hair was well-conditioned and shiny. I asked for a haircut and highlights. He foiled my hair and, after rinsing out the bleach, he put a conditioner in it. Then he blew it dry, did a dry cut, and then flat ironed it. I told him that I usually let my hair dry naturally, so it was fun having it straight for a change. I was disappointed in the lack of shine when he finished, but was still pretty happy when I left the salon. When I got home, my husband looked at me and said, «Your hair looks really dry.» I said I was sure when I washed it with my own products, it would be fine. I added some shine serum and noted that my hair felt like straw. Uh oh. When I went to bed that night, my hair actually felt crunchy. Double uh oh. THEN I noticed that he had gotten bleach on the neckline of my navy tee shirt and wrecked it. He failed to mention that to me. Grrrr… Next morning, I couldn’t stand the way my hair felt, so I washed it and slathered on the richest conditioner I had. I noticed when I rinsed it out, my hair still felt dry, which worried me. I let it dry naturally, as usual. The haircut looks like a hot mess, with no discernible shape or style. My hair is incredibly dry. AND my cute summer tee is now suitable for housework only. I’m still looking for a new colorist/stylist.

Let me start by saying Caleb is amazing! I went in to another salon in town a few weeks ago and they completely ruined my hair. They gave me a perm that was not what I asked for and the end result was nothing but damage, and a frizz ball that looked like Rosanna Anna Danna. I was actually looking for another salon but found it closed when I arrived. I looked on Unilocal and this salon had all good reviews. He agreed to meet me to help fix my hair right then and it was even his day off! My end result with Caleb? A chic, sexy cut that makes me look like a beautiful woman again. He took his time to explain how to maintain the look daily and which product to use. He was such a gentleman and really went out of his way to help me yesterday. Not only do I recommend him, I won’t be letting any other stylist in Salem touch my hair again. Thank you so much Caleb! You rock!

Caleb’s been doing my hair for two years now and I’m always a happy client. He keeps up on current trends and is great with all hair types. Strangers on the street compliment me on my hair. He has a great one-chair studio downtown Salem. He’s always on time and likes to have fun with color if you’re up for trying something new. I refer many of my clients to him and they all love him as well. Give him a try, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Sadly, I didn’t have the chance to have my hair done by Caleb. I called and he was completely booked on the one day I had time to get my hair done(yeah, I realize I really should plan these things in advance!) Having said that, he readily gave me a recommendation of another salon in the area, saying that it was possible that they could squeeze me in and that all their stylists came recommended. I’ll plan better and come back to Caleb!

I’ve been getting my hair cut by Caleb for many years now. I’ve found he always gives me a stylish haircut and provides good hair advice when I need it. This is good because I don’t always know what I want when I walk in. I’m a 35 year old male, but I’ve also sent female friends of mine to him too and they rave about his skills. He’s also a great conversationlist, a lost art in his trade. He doesn’t look at everyone as strictly clients, but as friends., and you can feel that sincere, old school customer service. He is also great with color and product recommendations. If you want a professional, fun, top notch experience that makes you look and feel great, go to Metricc!
