The Rising Star tasting room is a very rustic hangout, which is completely in line with the distinctiveness of the town of Salado. Staff was polite, relatively knowledgeable. The wine tasting is $ 5 for three tastings, which is alright; I just wish I could have gotten one or two more to expand the concept of tasting. Rustler’s Red — very basic and bland red wine; nothing special Cabernet — very light in color; on the palate was something earthy/veggie that wasn’t pleasant Merlot — darker in color and more full bodied than the Cab(somehow); not bad, easy to drink, yet nothing special Overall, a little boring but could be a lot of fun with the right group of people. Why not check it out.

We’ve been to Rising Star on multiple occasions and absolutely loved the wine and the food. We once went there for a wine and dine event and it was a great event — great wine, great food, great company. I’d say most of the wines there are above average, but the sunset is my absolute favorite.

Great location with a very nice garden outside. However, the wine was mediocre at best. Rising Star does not make good wine.

Tasted wine today at Rising Star. The wine was good but not great. Thought the price point was high. $ 20.00 for a Viognier is a bit steep especially for Texas. The server was fun and I’d give him four stars. I give the winery owners one star for charging me the tasting fee even though I bought a bottle of 2008 Merlot. Most wineries I have been to refund the tasting fee or give you a discount when you purchase wine. I understand a wine tasting room can be a profit center and also understand the need to charge those who taste but don’t buy. However, I can’t accept paying for both the wine and the tasting.

(I really hope this is the right place, my bottle label said Dodd Creek wine) This was the third stop on my wine trek through Salado, and for sure my most enjoyable. The guy(I really wished I wrote his name down) that did our tasting session was ice cool, told us stories about his time in Greece, and poured the tastings with a heavy hand. He rocked. We were on a time budget, otherwise we would have gotten a plate from the cheeseary next door. We took home the last couple bottles of Sandstone and the strawberry wine-a-ritas to go. Yum yum yum. Had a blast, totally recommend any wino in the area to stop by, and I surely hope you get the pleasure to talk to the same guy we did!
