1. hotel is poorly build. my toddler dancing made the TV shake. 2. Do not get a room facing the interstate. Our room was and it was so loud. Heard trucks all night long. Their advice, since they said they couldn’t move us was to turn up the fan on the air conditioner. To run the fan continuously, you had to turn off the A/C. Not a good thing in Texas. 3. Charged us extra for having 2 adults in one room. We asked about the price change, they told us we were told when we checked in which was absolutely not true. 4. Overall terrible customer relations, they knew we were unsatisfied with our room and then our bill increase and did nothing to try to fix the situation. Best advice, stay cross the street at the Holiday Day Inn. We will be there if we are in town again.

Checked in and confirmed that my total would be 86 $ upon checkout. When I checked out, I was charged 135 $ and brought this up with the front desk and was told I would be refunded the additional charge. I had the girl at the desk make copies of the documents to ensure that I would not be overcharged as 5 other guests in front of me who had made Internet reservations were also charged an additional unauthorized amount. Upon checking my bank account, I came to find out I was actually charged the full 135 $. I called the office and was told that I would be refunded 10 $ but that is all. I will NEVER be staying at a best western again.

Warning: this place is crawling with bugs! I was in town on business and had a few free days to myself to explore Texas. I got a rental car and had plans to find a hotel near Austin and then spend the day in Austin. Unfortunately, when I got to the Round Rock area, I found that there were a billion tournaments/conferences going on and that all the hotels were completely booked. I asked three different hotels if they knew where the closest availability was, and all told me they had heard about 30 – 40 miles north was the nearest availability. After making some calls, I did finally find a room at the Best Western Plus in Salado. I arrived tired after a day’s worth of driving at about 9pm and was given the key to my room on the 3rd floor. Within the first 20 minutes I had killed and flushed large carpenter ants that I had found in the bathroom. Upon inspecting the carpet, I found dead carcasses of carpenter ants and various beetles. I noticed that the bugs seemed to be coming from the air conditioner, which made sense as the air conditioner had not been turned on until I came into the room. There were about 8 carpenter ants at the base of the air conditioner. I called the night manager and told him bugs were coming from the air conditioner and he came up with a broom and a bin and swept the ones he could see. After telling him I really didn’t feel comfortable with bugs in the room, he offered me another room, which of course I took. I half-debated just leaving then and there, but I knew my only option was to sleep in my rental car by that point, so I took the second room. The night manager turned on the air conditioning in the second room and waited for a few minutes with me to see if any bugs crawled out of it. As we were waiting, he told me he thought the bugs were coming from the field across the way and told me not to worry because they don’t bite. After he left, I found large carpenter ants crawling in the bathroom yet again and on the carpet, although not as many as there were in the first room. There were also dead bugs in the carpet around the chairs and the edge of the room. I tried to suck it up and fall asleep as I knew there wasn’t anywhere else to go and I did need to rest but then I started thinking, «If this is how they handle the big bugs, do they even check for bed bugs?» I mean clearly they don’t vacuum. I was ready to go but did want to take a shower — until I found a dead bug in the shower curtain. By 3:30am, I had packed up and checked out, telling the night manager that I was leaving because of the bugs. When I glanced around the lobby, I was astonished to find that there were at least 15 bugs I could see, with 3 bugs crawling at my feet. I don’t know how I missed them when I first checked in. I tried to get my money back, and I told the hotel that I had photographic proof that I was willing to share with them AND review sites, but all the owner would offer was a gift card for Best Western hotels good for half of what the room cost. I told them I wanted my money back, as I’m pretty sure I’ll never stay with a Best Western ever again after this, but he told me he had to pay for the maid service to clean the rooms I was in. I told him if the rooms had been cleaned before I arrived there wouldn’t be so many bugs. Customer service told me that as Best Westerns are independently owned, there was nothing they could do except take what the owner offered. I told the owner he had a bug problem and he replied, «well, I can’t do anything about the bugs.» The next night I stayed at a Westin in Dallas. When I was checking in at the Westin, I told the Westin employee of my horrid night here(I looked very ragged because I had not slept) and she was so sympathetic that she gave me a discount on my room, free meals and free services at the Westin in the hopes it would better my opinion of Texas. The stark difference in hospitality! Bottom line: This Best Western is full of bugs crawling everywhere and the owner does not care. Avoid!

After working all weekend in San Antonio, I determined that I just couldn’t make it back to Tyler because I was too tired. I happened upon this hotel by accident while looking for a Super 8. When I walked in, the man behind the counter was VERY friendly and helpful and even talked me in to joining the Best Western Rewards program. When I walked through the hotel on the way up to my room, I noticed how clean and new everything looked. My room was very clean and even the temperature was perfect. The beds were extremely comfortable. You’re able to order Pizza easily to the room and they offer free breakfast in the morning until 9:30. I didn’t take advantage of this because I decided to sleep in until the last possible minute. As I checked out, the owner, Tony, and another worker, David«Doc», were very helpful and friendly. Doc helped me carry my bags out to my car. We got to chit chatting and in that moment, I managed to lock my keys in my car. Upon calling our insurance companies, Tony and I discovered that BOTH of our insurance carriers had canceled the roadside assistance on our policies. Fortunately, I still had roadside assistance through Verizon and managed to have a locksmith on his way. Doc was very nice and brought me coffee while I waited. The locksmith showed up 20 minutes later and I was on my way. But, I had gained a friend in Doc and promised that I would make sure everyone knew that this hotel was definitely the place to stay at if you’re overnight in Salado They have an in ground pool that is covered and a work out room. The ONLY con I noticed was the paint color of the rooms. They were a BRIGHT Banana Yellow color that almost glowed! HAHA But, who cares, right?

Some out-of-town family members came to visit for the Salado Legends play last summer, and so we booked them two hotel rooms at the newly opened Best Western, because the Holiday Inn Express was full. The staff was horribly rude, and the common areas were dirty. My family complained about the banana-colored walls in the rooms and horrible traffic noise from IH35. After their stay, the manager accused my two 60 year old aunts of jumping on the bed and making too much noise. This was just one of many bad experiences with this hotel, and will definitely be the last.
