Hilda’s Italian Ice & Custard

These gelatis were heavenly. Better than Rita’s, and I’m not even a fan of ice cream. So sad to see they’ve closed. If they open a new location, someone let me know

The owners are very friendly and knowledgeable about Italian Ice! The male owner told us he used to own a Rita’s up in NJ. Awesome quality and variety. Try a vanilla custard with mango ice. So yum!

Hilda knows exactly what she’s doing. Every day she has about 10 rotating flavors of Italian ice and 8 or so ice cream/​Gelato flavors as well as vanilla custard. Her gelati treats are wonderfully unique. I prefer root beer Italian ice with vanilla custard. I went 3 times the first week I discovered this.

Oh man what a treat!!! I am so excited to have found an alternative to ice cream and gelato (sorry Paciugo, I need variety in my life). The custard is to die for. Paired with any of their italian ice flavors, it’s a party in your mouth. The flavors are so refreshing and… flavorful. I had a gelati (vanilla custard layered with italian ice) with strawberry & black cherry ices. Then I had a gelati with mint chocolate chip & mango ices. I really don’t think any combination could be bad. You can sample the flavors. They also have homemade ice cream.
The best part is this is close to where I work so when I need a pick-​me-​up, I know where to go.

Don’t let the appearance fool you the gelati (gelato and Italian ice swirled together) is delicious. The mix of tart Italian ice and creamy sweet custard is perfection. The people behind the counter will let you sample flavors of the Italian ice if you ask. I was partial to the mango.
There’s also a wonderful selection of craft beer, the shelves were a little bare when we went, but there were plenty of notable and unique craft beers, some local, some from around the country. Check this place out on a hot summer day and you won’t be disappointed!

A relatively new place that is headed in the right direction. It’s kind of an odd combination of merchandise: beer/​wine and ice cream/​water ice.
The beer selection looked pretty impressive with lots of international brands to choose from, but we were there for the sweets.
My wife’s chocolate water ice was very good! Not perfect yet, but that’ll come in a short while after some very minor adjustments.
Although I had planned to order a cone of soft serve, the very personable lady at the counter almost insisted I try 3 – 4 samples of the homemade bulk ice cream. I’m so glad she did! Key Lime, Chocolate with Peanut Butter & Jelly, and Coconut Pineapple were all excellent, but I dove onto a cup of Cookies & Cream and it was great.
Worth a try on a hot day or evening!

I wish I could share a picture of the fabulous concoction someone brought to me from this place, but I couldn’t stop eating it. I’ve not had custard or Italian ice before, but I’m certain this is as good as it gets. Black cherry with the vanilla custard: YUM! I hear they have a great craft beer selection here and I will be certain to visit this place going forward. Treat yourself and go here. The prices are very fair and the quality is top notch.

Great local place for homemade ice cream and real Italian Ice. The man working (Hilda’s boyfriend) was very friendly and gave us several samples to try. Prices were decent. There weren’t a lot of homemade ice cream options but there were several Italian Ice flavored.

I was in the area and was craving something sweet. I never would have expected something to taste so amazing. I had the Gelati with Mango and Watermelon Italian ice, mixed with vanilla ice-​cream. I never would have thought this combination would be this amazing. They don’t charge you an arm and leg for it either like other chain ice-​cream vendors. Hilda was nice and let us try all the flavors. Great service! From the outside, I did not think I would find something so amazing inside. We have already been back once! Thank you Hilda!

This place just opened up and the workers are really friendly and they have good flavors and decent prices. The minute u walk in they have a smile on their face and give u samples of the Italian ice and custard.

Hilda’s is located inside a bare bones jiffy store type place.
The frozen fruit flavored ices are just fine, but their custard is phenomenal— creamy and salty, almost perfect. The chocolate is not too sweet and has real chocolate flavor and specs of chocolate throughout the custard.
I mostly come here for the Gelati, which is custard layered in with fruity sorbet-​type ice. Orange is classic, but mango is a new twist. For a root beer float taste; there is root beer ice with vanilla custard.
Hilda’s gelati is a great alternative to eating heavy ice cream during the hot ten months out of the year.
It appears that they are on a dial-​up network for credit cards, so I recommend bringing cash for purchases.
The rest of the store is forming into quite a nice bottled craft beer shop, they have some great local favorites.

This place just opened up in my neighborhood and it’s been a favorite place to walk to for a Gelati. They offer frozen custard and Italian ice. Additionally they have over 50 craft beers and wine. It’s been a great addition to the neighborhood.
