Reading reviews, we decided to try it out. The place is cozy and menus were like record albums. Neat! Now onto the food… We had the cappy pizza ny style and Greek salad. The Greek salad is not as expected at all. Dressing way too oily and we mixed it pretty good. Pizza have had better and crust was harder than what a NY style I have had many times… Service was mediocre we asked for napkins and she never came back with them nor saw another waitress to even ask and our area was full.

Feeling right back at home in New York the crispy thin crust and melting cheese on this pizza was incredible. Not only to top off the great pizza but the huge delicious salads and GIGANTIC calzones will make your mouth water. Incredibly happy with the service of the place. Definitely worth the drive to st. Pete with the beautiful oldies atmosphere, the menus were on record covers! Definitely will be coming back.

Great simple menu selections. I wasn’t overwhelmed with hundreds of items. I can’t believe I didn’t know this little gem existed. Can’t wait to go back and try more. My family loves a good homemade pizza so they’re gonna like this place. I’m sure the other locations are just as tasty. :-)

I love a good Cappy’s pizza. But I’ll start at the beginning. The menus are on vinyl record sleeves(compare with friends for lots of laughs) you can grab your own beer, awesome outdoor seating, and trivial pursuit card on the table. There’s never a dull moment here. I love to start out with a Greek salad. A small one is enough for 2 people and if you think Olive Garden did something right for the salad, you need to try Cappy’s Greek salad. It’ll change your life. For the main course I prefer the New York style. I’ve had Chicago and people that like it tell me it’s good but I’m really a fan of NY. They have a good variety of toppings and they’ll go halvsies. This is a St. Pete establishment, far enough from downtown to find easy parking and close enough to be convenient. And bring cash.

Normally we love dining at Cappy’s. We ate at Cappy’s last week and had the most pathetic waitress. We ordered the Greek Salad and Large Pizza along with drinks. The Greek Salad came from another waiter. We asked this waiter about our drinks and he was going to see what happened to them. About 10 minutes later our waitress showed up. Pathetically she said, «sorry I forgot about your drinks». By this time I cancelled my beer order and just got water. Drinks finally came when we finished our salad. We then had to wait quite a while for her to bring our bill. Really felt like WE were putting HER out. Cappy’s needs to take a look at their staff.

Excellent NY style pizza. Nice location and great outdoor seating. Love the old style home it’s in. Lots of great beer to choose from. Service was acceptable, not great. We will give it another try and hope it goes better. If so, will update to 4 stars. Take out available.

The crust was dry and kind of hard. Not enough sauce. NY style pizza should be foldable. My crust was like a floor tile. My advice is to get drunk first. Everything tastes and looks better when your drunk.

Word is you either hate it or you love it when it comes to Cappy’s Pizza. Well I can officially say that I LOVEIT! At least the Chicago Deep Dish Style. Oh man was it fantastic. We got pineapple and sausage. They advised with the deep dish take out that you do not have them cut the pizza and you cut it yourself when you get home. Keeps the pizza from getting soupy. That is excellent advise and I was happy to receive it. Cappy’s is centrally located between 1st N and Central in St Pete not too far off the freeway. The ambiance inside this historic craftsman style bungalow is awesome. I was a little sad I ordered my pizza to go, as I wanted to hang out inside more. The staff was really friendly and knowledgeable, the pizza was amazing, the layout and décor is historic and fun, and they have a great beer selection. You cannot go wrong with Cappy’s Pizza!

Cappy’s is on the must go list of all my visitors from out of town. It is always good food and a good time. This location is in an old house with varied and interesting decorations. No real theme but interesting including vintage advertising and concert posters. Both indoor and outdoor dining is available. My beer drinking friends say the selection is reasonable. I prefer the deep dish pizza. Salads are good. Service is very friendly although there are certain times when they could really use an additional person. But never excessively slow. Check the hours before visiting. They are a bit shorter than expected for this type of business. Overall, great food, great service, and an interesting atmosphere.

GREAT food! BEST pizza in Tampa Bay! Service is professional & timely, yet so warm & funny. ALWAYS have a great enjoyable time; whether a meal with my hubby & young daughter, or starting the night off with the gals for MNO. Love, love, LOVE this place! You will too! :-) *Recommend Greek salad as starter, followed by one of their specialty pizzas along with any one(several ;-)) of their wide varieties of awesome beers.

I am on a mission to find the best NY style pizza in Saint Petersburg, so was looking forward to sharing a NY style, and a Chicago style with my son, a long with some cheese bread. We started with a NY style with pepperoni on it… both my son and I thought it was really good, the sauce really adds a great taste to the pie. Then we sampled the Chicago style with pepperoni… I must admit, that the Chicago style is just not for me, though, my son and I did enjoy it, but, we did prefer the NY style pizza a lot more. The Chicago style is really a tasters choice of the pizza world. Then we had some cheese bread, that was also very tasty. Conclusion… Out top pick for Saint Petersburg best pizza… is… Tobys Original Little Italy Pizza on 49th street and 38 ave no. A close second being Cappy’s, and a 3rd place going to Gianni’s Pizza on 58st and 9 ave no.

This is my favorite pizza place by far. I’ve decided that the sausage deep dish and Greek salad would be my death row meal. Great atmosphere and efficient service as well.

I’ve been a fan of Cappy’s since they opened in 1995. The Greek salad is delicious, the New York pizza is perfectly good, but the Chicago pie is really where it’s at. The crust is a marvel — flaky, yet crunchy, tasting of mild olive oil. The plum-tomato sauce on top of the cheese is fresh yet spicy. The Chicago is the only pizza on earth I’d eat stone-cold, and when reheated the next day it’s just as tasty. It’s a really unique pie for this area. I can’t say whether or not it’s ‘authentic’ — and honestly, it doesn’t matter. I’ve been to Chicago several times and tried some of the more famous deep dish pizzerias on each trip — surprisingly, I didn’t feel like it improved upon what I’d already tasted at home with Cappy’s. Made me appreciate it more, in fact.

I’m not sure what all they hype is about, the place is cute and has a homey feel but that’s about it. The service is ok, though my server, Sarah was nice. They put me at a table right under the air conditioner(when I got here it wasn’t on), which blew right down on my table once they switched it on. My food was cold before I had even taken three bites! No way should that ever happen! And the food it’s self was already disappointing. The crust tastes like frozen crust(I worked in a pizza place for four and a half years so I know my pizza) and they call it Chicago style which it isn’t. It’s just pizza with the sauce on top. True Chicago style has the bottom crust then the toppings and cheese then another thin layer of crust then sauce on top. So when you expect that and get something half assed it’s pretty disappointing.

Shame on Cappy’s. They do not warn their dinners of the towing situation in the American Ballet parking lot next door. Do not park there. They will tow you. The night we ate there, three cars were towed away. They have delicious pizza and excellent service. Too bad they do not care enough to provide VISIBLE and verbal reminders. Especially for first time dinners.

4-stars if it were in the northeast, but in St. Pete, Cappy’s rules the roost. Love eating outside, very nice atmosphere and staff. The NY-style thincrust pizza is arguably better than their Chicago-style is vs others of that type. The cheese and crust are excellent, the pepperoni was generic however.

3-stars if it were in the northeast, but in St. Pete, Cappy’s is one of the better pizza places. It’s really the atmosphere that does it for me. Eating outdoors is nice there, solid setup, very nice wait staff. The NY-style thincrust pizza is better than their Chicago-style is vs others of that type. The cheese and crust are solid, the pepperoni is generic however. The cheesey bread is really good. 5⁄5 for that, 3⁄5 for the pizza, 4⁄5 overall.

I have had take out from here and the food has always been great so I decided to try out eating in. I was planning on sitting outside so I told the waitress inside that we were outside and shahid okay I’ll be out in a minute with menus… 10 minutes later after waiting outside with no menus or even water. And after she went to the other tables who arrived after us I informed her we had been waiting out here quite awhile and she says«5 tables came in and I didn’t know you were out here» okay. I think I’ll take my business elsewhere. All customers want is to be acknowledged. Not to mention there was only one waitress working.

I don’t Unilocal,in fact, I can’t stand Unilocalers, but yet here I am. I don’t know what else to say except that I went in with a friend for the first time the other night and as we walked in, I smiled and asked the server if we should sit anywhere, only to be answered with a very uncool and RUDE«YUP» while walking and not even looking at us. We shrugged it off and went and sat outside and waited for 5 minutes before giving up and going somewhere else. Guess she was having a really, really bad night. The food is prob really good, we wouldn’t know.

Went here for the first time because I’ve always heard such good things about this St. Petersburg landmark. I wasn’t disappointed. I had the New York style pizza with chicken, bacon, caramelized onions and feta(oh my!). The bottom of the crust was perfectly crispy and the toppings were generous. The only thing I didn’t like about the pizza was the chicken. You could tell it was the frozen chicken you get at the store. It was pretty gross. But I would definitely come here again and get their pizza, but without the chicken.

We had been here a few times and really loved it. However the last few times we have been here, we have been let down. The service has been slow, and the food quality has gone down. We have had way better pizza at tikanis. We use to get the deep dish but the toppings have seem to gotten smaller and not nearly has plentiful as they use to be. Maybe in a few months we will try and see how they do.

Ordered the deep dish. Would describe it as quite good… not quite as good as going to one of the upper echelon places in Chicago, but still solid and worth a recommendation.

Huh, not impressed. I had veggie pizza in the Chicago deep dish style with addition of black olives. Thick crust was like biscuit with strong yeast aftertaste. White cheese at the bottom didn’t taste fresh and too salty for mozzarella. The top layer, probably 10% of whole pie, was tomato sauce with finely chopped onion, ham, peppers. No. I had expected sweet juicy flavorfully stewed tomato sauce brimming with chunky hearty veggies, almost spilling over from crispy crust. What’s in front of me was instead half inch thick soft dough covered in uninteresting tomato sauce. Sadly, One of our knives was dirty, service is offhand. I seem to hit their bad day.

Hands down the best pizza and calzones in St. Pete! We visited last week and each had a calzone and wine. The crust is buttery; baked and seasoned perfectly. We built our own. Mine was stuffed with mushrooms and spinach. His was of the meat lovers variety. The cheese was full of garlic goodness. Both were enormous and provided us with a second helping for the next day’s lunch. I love the atmosphere at Cappy’s. The front terrace eatery transports me to my travels to other beloved towns across America, but with a backyard neighborhood feel. Its a Craftsman style classic wedged amidst Historic Kenwood and Grand Central, an area that is experiencing an exciting resurgence of restaurants, shops and restored structures. It’s comfortable and familiar, and romantic with its strung Edison lighting. You can’t help singing along to the oldies playing in the background, and talking about time passed with the music memorabilia all around.

Cappys is great! The Greek salad is amazing! Has a sweet taste to it and potato salad on top. My aunt has the calzone each time she comes and it’s beyond huge! Wine is served in a stemless glass. Good for me because I spill. Service is good. Except we sat outside for about 10 minutes when they first opened. So I had to go inside and ask for a server. Only downfall. Great prices! I will be back!

We have eaten here twice and each time I’ve had a great experience. Cappy’s is the place to go or order from for Pizza. Very welcoming and attentive. My husband and I ordered the NY Style Pizza and both times it was delicious. Very flavorful… probably one of the best pizzas I’ve had ever! They have a lot of varieties and other options on the menu such as salads etc. I do personally know from seeing a friends salad portion while dining in that it is enough to feed 3 easily. Great food, amazing service, can’t beat it.

This place is in a great location and it’s really quant. The menus are on record albums and the décor is great. The Greek salad was really big(small is for 2 ppl) and tasty. We ordered the Cappy and veggie large New York style pizza which was pretty large. The crust was great but i must admit the taste was bland on both pizzas. You had to add things like garlic, red peppers and parmesan for it to taste less bland. They have a nice beer selection and the atmosphere was great. The servers were all nice. Not sure i would come back. All in all not more than ok.

Solid old-school pizza in a 70’s themed relaxed atmosphere. If you grew up in the 70’s Cappy’s will bring back fond memories. Menus are on laminated albums from the 70’s, kitschy décor, warm wood booths and floors, cute outdoor patio, hip friendly wait staff, and regular old school pizza. If you’re looking for 25 varieties of coal-fired pizza with arugula, buffalo mozzarella, fresh basil, or prosciutto as options — this ain’t your pizza place! BF and I ordered a small Greek salad to start — great salad with lovely feta, homemade dressing, and the perfect size for splitting. Then we ordered a large New York pizza(½ veggie, ½ Cappy) — loaded with toppings and like pizza used to be — ha! Can’t wait to come back!

This is, hands-down, a great pizza place. Here’s what I do, almost every time: Greek salad, cheese bread, and pizza. YOUMUSTTRYTHECHEESEBREAD. They also make a phenomenal Greek salad. The pizza is nicely done, but honestly, I go there for the bread and the salad. They have self-service beer and soft drinks, which is nice because they have a good size beer selection. I’ve always had fantastic service; I’ve never had a bad meal. This is solid food and a solid business. I don’t give them a fifth star because of the beer. See, I’m kind of done with craft beer and it would be nice to see more beer that wasn’t brewed by Swedish monks or whatever — you know, cheap beer for pizza. They have some but not enough that I like. I know, I know, you can’t please everybody. Corona Light, guys, that’s all I’m asking.

Oh Cappy’s, how I love thee. What is not to love about vinyl album menus, an old Florida bungalow, bulb string lights, and awesome food? The service is always friendly and pretty quick. Don’t expect to get fast service on a weekend night, though. This place is popular and fills up fast. I absolutely love the Greek salad – especially the potato salad therein; it’s to die for. You can’t go wrong with either the New York or deep dish style pizzas. My only piece of advice is to dine in. For some reason, the crust gets tougher on their pizza when it has been sitting for some time. Therefore, take out here isn’t the greatest. One of the best pizza spots in St. Pete!
