Stopped on our way to Indiana. Wonderful selection of wines tried six and bought six. Young lady serving was great. Very helpful May join their club since they can ship to TX. All kinds of other goodies you can buy as well. I picked out some teas since I am a tea lover as well.

Had a wonderful time touring the impressive facility and tasting their delicious wines! Staff is very friendly and helpful, def stop by & see which you like best! Their wines win an impressive amount of awards! We left with 2 glasses, and coasters, & multiple bottles to enjoy!

Fantastic wines. Great indoor as well as outdoor seating. The gift shop is extensive with many unique gift items there for purchase. Purchase a bottle along with some sausage or cheese and sit outside and overlook the vineyards.

What a great find! Right off the interstate, well worth the stop. Trenton was a rock star talking about the wines, explaining the nuances and being a great host. The wines are flavorful(the Riesling is great). Personally, I appreciated Trenton allowing us to compare to different vintages… what a cool education in vintages!

This place has so much more to offer than we had time for. Our stop was just for gifts for our weekend pet-sitter. There was much more than just wine. #14 of the most awarded wineries of the world. All kinds of gifts, wine racks, jellies, butters, spice mixes, teas, glassware, tastings and more. Outside provided a spot to enjoy a bottle under a canopy of grapevines. Wish we had more time today to get the full experience!

Complimentary wine tasting– you can choose up to six. They also sell wine by the glass for 4 $. Staff was friendly and knowledgable. I just wish it wasn’t located right next to the highway. If you want to sit outside and drink a glass or two of wine, the traffic is a noisy distraction.

It was ok. The store is filled with kitschy wine related items, ranging from knick knacks to home décor. There are spreads, dressings, cheeses, tea, and even pop, amongst other food and drink items. Just so much stuff that I felt like the actual bottled wine was kind of a background thing. Service was not so great. I was greeted, and that about ended any interaction. I tried to do the free wine tasting, but the women doing that handed a sheet to everyone but me. Didn’t even look at me. So that wound up being a bust. I tried to get one of the chocolate truffles, but I was again ignored because they were busy with the wine tasting(the truffles are on the same counter as the wine tastings, it wasn’t as if I was across the store). At that point, I gave up and just went to check out… where I had to wait almost 10 minutes before someone came over. I bought the blackberry and strawberry fruit wines. I love blackberry wine, and I love trying it from different wineries. This was a great fruit wine, but I could not detect a unique blackberry flavor to it. If blindly given this wine, I would have never known it was blackberry. I’ve had some great blackberry wines where you could tell it was blackberry. So while good, it was disappointing for the specific flavor I wanted. The strawberry wine hit the mark. Delicious and had the distinct strawberry flavor. So overall… Decent fruit wine, but avoid the blackberry if you really want the blackberry flavor. But it’s good if you aren’t expecting to actually taste blackberry. The store itself? Eh. It seemed to really appeal to a much older generation, and the service wasn’t that great. I’d probably buy the strawberry wine again, but I’d rather pay a couple bucks more at my local liquor store for it rather than buying it at St. James and get poor service.

As much as I love little local wineries and try to stay away from the larger commercial wineries, I just love this place. There are a ton of wines to choose from that suits everyone’s tastes. The winemaker is fabulous and the workers are very knowledgeable. I wish this place was closer because it’s one of the best quality wineries I’ve visited.

The people here are so friendly. I went on the suggestion from my boyfriends parents. I’m a big fan of wine and my boyfriend isn’t. While I was tasting wine the lady was so chatty with him to make him feel comfortable and not out of place. She explained all the wines to me and suggested some that I wasn’t originally going to try. I love their fruit wines!!! She also gave me some recipes that pair perfectly with their wines. She also gave me a list of all the wineries to try and suggested some based on the wines that I tried there. What AMAZING service. I am going to make this a must stop when I travel to Missouri!

Easily visiable from the highway, we stopped in for a complimentary sampling. We were able to try eight of their wines from over 30 different kinds. The friendly staff helped us narrow in our choices and we really enjoyed all the wines we samples. I usually associated Missouri wines with being very sweet, but St. James had a good offering of dry wines with a good Reserve Norton and Chambourcin and a dry Traminette($ 12.99) that had a sweet smell but dry finish. I liked that all the fruit wines($ 8.99) were made with pure fruit juice and no added sugar — I think that’s a pretty rare find. The port Norton was nice as well. With the good selection, we walked out with several bottles we were really happy to take home!

I went to this winery years ago. I had a lot of fun, got to try free samples of wine. They have the best sweet wine I have ever tried. Definitely worth going to. But be warned, its actually cheaper to buy their wine at a grocery, or liquor store than at the winery. Why you ask? I don’t know.

Woo hoo! I’m the first person who was born and raised here to review it. =) I grew up on this wine. Literally. I think back to my younger days and I can’t think of one day that I wasn’t fishing laying out on the back of the pickup truck with a bottle of Pink Catabwa in hand. St. James has made in nationwide now. Good for me because being military we travel all over. Two of the ones I can’t find but here are the Chambourcin and Cynthiana. Both are dry and I tell you what I’m hoardin’ that wine when I bring it back home. It’s all mine! The tasting room you will find some of the sweetest souls, you will ever come across. And itself serve. So go head feel right at home and pour yourself and taste them. Get yourself a redneck wine glass.(Mason jar on a candle stick) You’ll feel right at home or be the talk of the party either way. Don’t forget they love our military and give a discount!

I’m not sold on on anything but the smiling service. Self serve wine tasting is something I’m not used to but what the heck? I’ll give it a try. After two or three sips of selections, it was clear to me this was not the wine I’m familiar with and will take some getting used to. Nope, after the fourth sip I was done. The varietals used in this neck of the woods are just not my thing. The tasting room is very bright and has a road side truck stop feel with more knickknacks than quality wine. The redeeming quality here is the service. From the moment we walked in until we left with a few bottles to keep working on, we were treated like family. It was great. Too bad everything else was not.

We bouught several bottles of wine at Christmas time and enjoyed most of them. However, one that we opened was«off» and had a sour taste. We happened to stop by again recently and let him know that one of our purchased bottles had gone bad. The worker did not offer to compensate us, but suggested we had stored it improperly. This seems unfriendly to us, and we won’t go back. In hindsight, I probably should have asked for a manger.

Stopped here on our way to Arkansas for some wine for the weekend. I would not say I am a wine/winery connoisseur, I like trying the wines, and the same would go even if I was just eating out at dinner. Compared to the wineries that I have been to in Defiance and Hermann, I felt that St. James was not as friendly. There was one side of the wine tasting area that was free, and one that was like a membership side or something… You could pay for it, but since I’m not one to ask a lot of questions, I shied away from it altogether. It was Christmas time when we went and I loved the decorations, it felt very home-y and clean. I enjoyed walking around and looking at different items for sale.

If you’re interested in sampling some fine Missouri wines, St. James Winery is definitely worth a visit. You can sample all of their wines for free in-store or buy some cheese and other goodies to compliment your wine. While MO wines do tend to run rather sweet, they’ve got some dry reds and whites that are surprisingly sophisticated. Prices are very reasonable, about $ 10 or less per bottle, so you can pick up a few for under $ 50. (I recommend trying the Norton, Chambourcin, Cynthiana, and Friendship School Red.)

I have a soft spot for this place as my dad was once a resident at the Veterans Home on the other side of the highway from here. I love all of their wines and they do have a nice variety. I am highly partial to the country red — a semi sweet wine. Hubs calls it my «cow wine» because of the cow on the label. You can’t go wrong with any of their wines IMHO. And if its too sweet and fruity for you, well then you can cook with it!(A little for the pot then a little for me, a little more for the pot a little more for me) Reasonably priced and the coolest part of the deal — the bottles are out and you sometimes can pour your own samples. Otherwise they are more than happy to give you samples. Even the grape juice they make is delish! They also have tshirts, cheeses, jerky, jams, cookbooks.

Free samples. I got a nice cookbook here, and the most jamming preserves ever! I bought a bottle of the Country Red, but am saving it for a special occasion. There is nothing more fun to do than to support these local places.
