I am their # 1 fan from St. Louis Mo. In the fall of 2014, I was dropping off my deer at my meat processor, when I noticed a new building had been erected next door to it. The building had no sign up yet, so naturally, I was curious and decided to investigate. To my pleasant surprise, it was a brew house. It was 10:30am, but the sign on the door said they open at 11 am. Even so, an employee came to the door and invited me in for some samples. For the first time in my life, I found out what real premium beer tasted like! I was never a beer drinker, but I am forever changed now! Rod’s Cream Ale is the most drinkable brew for just about everyone, But I have never had a better German Wheat(Heff) beer. In my opinion, Public House blows away any of their competition by far! Four Hands, Urban Chestnut, an Civil Life, lose big time, in my book! I love the beer so much, that I purchased a kegerator, and I make annual trips to St. James, to purchase the best brew in Missouri. Not to mention, they have great food creations! Check them out for yourself, you won’t be disappointed!

On our way back from the lake on Saturday we stopped at Public House in St. James for dinner. The food was very good and the beer excellent. If you have the time, and are looking for a place to stop and eat off Hwy 44, Public House would be a great place to eat.

I have never Unilocaled before but felt if I were to start, I would have to be with a raving review for the Public Brew House. Stopped to peak our curiosity and stayed for an hour. Sampled all of their great beer and settled on the Heffeweisen. Amazing! You must try the Rueben sandwich and the German potato salad is a MUST!!! Staff is friendly and very helpful. This is a must stop for me every time I drive through on I-44!

This is the first time I’ve visited Public House, and I was terrifically impressed. The beer was great, the new outside Gardens area will be a great addition, but the most wonderful part of the visit was the service. Brandon greeted us the moment we walked in, gave us the lay of the land and made us feel completely at home. He went above and beyond the call, and in the end, was the key reason that I’ve made this a five star review, including consulting with the brewmasters about some home brewing questions we had. With this level of service, the Public House in St James is sure to quickly develop a deeply dedicated following! Thank you for a great time!

Excellent brewery with great beers. Serves were wonderful. We didn’t eat except for nuts. Overall good experience. The server gave us military discount without asking for it. My daughter was in uniform. The décor is amazing .just think steam punk. rustic industrial. Would love t9 come back for dinner but we are heading home to PA in morning.

We got there too early and were going to get back in the car to continue on to Columbia, then one of the waiters popped his head out and said we were welcome to have a beer while we waited for the grill to warm up. He let us taste all the beer on tap, and chatted with us until lunch was ready. The beer was amazing. Even the styles that aren’t normally my favorite were good, and then the food… The Rueben was one of the best I’ve ever had. Can’t say enough positive things about my experience here. It was good enough that I’ll probably take my drives past there to make sure I pass at meal time.

Summer Saturday working in the yard, so wife and I decided to try the Public House Brewing Company for an afternoon snack and beers. We’ve been there before, and knew that it’s nice, cool, and dark – the ideal place to tuck into to cool off… …Wait…its the perfect place because they serve an incredible«Thorn and Heat-Strawberry Wheat» beer, along with a new [?] hard apple cider I’ve never had before. I couldn’t tell if it had a catchy name, but Im calling it ‘Crack Cider’ because you can’t stop with one, and its addicting as hell, especially on a hot afternoon.(Its a sweet apple cider-not dry). Ordered the Poughman’s Board(Meat & Cheese & bread), along with a pickle assortment(including watermelon rind pickles~nice). It was 2:00 in the afternoon, but nearly all the dining area table were occupied. Odd time for it to be crowded; but maybe word’s getting out about this Ozark gem. Everyone who likes beer should stop by when passing thru the area!

My girlfriend and I were passing through on a road trip and really wanted to try some beers here after a long way driving. When we got there we realized they weren’t opening till later on the evening so we decided to go across the street and get shaved ice. I noticed someone back by the brewery and figured I’d ask them where to get some Public House beers from a local liquor store. When I got over to the door the brew master James introduced himself to me, talked to me about beers, and ultimately let us inside the closed brewery to try one of their beers. He even traded me some beers for a Three Floyd’s bottle we had in the car. The interior of the place is beautiful, the beer is good(I had the ipa and my girlfriend tried the cream ale, which were both delicious), and the brew master is a down to earth guy who doesn’t mind talking to about the finer things in Missouri with some strangers from the road. All in all and essential stop if you are looking for great beer and people in a great environment. Also, try the Strawberry wheat. A+

When visiting my hometown there hasn’t always been a spot to hang out. I’m not exactly the Johnnie’s type of girl so I was stoked that Public House is in town. I came in to catch up with my friend, Rachel, after a few years of living far away. This was the best spot because A) I had to schedule my friends visits on limited amount of time and B) I’ve been wanting to check this place out. Win Win. Bonus is I ran into a guy from high school that I haven’t seen in forever. Apparently, I haven’t aged much. Favs: Revolulation Stout and Elusive IPA. I believed I tried a British style beer while I was here as well. I can’t remember the name. I love the look of this place. If I was still in the area I would definitely use this as a date night place to go. I’m definitely a fan of this place.

We had a great first visit last night and will definitely be back! The live band was great, loved the atmosphere, and most importantly, the beers and food were delicious. A couple of us shared a beer sampler, and we enjoyed all of the ones we tried, including the new cider and seasonal strawberry. Our group of 4 shared wings, asparagus, German potato salad, the pickle plate(pickled okra, yum!) and trout fritters. All were good, and we wished we weren’t so full because we wanted to try more! We’ll just have to go back!

When I explained my order was to go due to my dog being in my car, they offered me patio seating and gave my dog water and food scraps from the kitchen. Great service and great food! Next time we’re traveling through will definitely make this our stop for lunch. I would also recommend the porter!

I grew up in Salem and came up here during the 100 Acre Rally between stages/escape the snow. We stopped for the winery and saw the brewery – so pleased! We stopped in for a pint and ended up staying for hours of chatting and touring the brewery. Great staff, great time! Highly recommend! This place is going to be amazing once the weather gets warmer!

Really wanted to give them five stars. Staff was a bit disorganized with no designated sections and the seat-yourself philosophy. The good menu was not available(this was not publicized on their site.) They did have a «buffet» with one option, not self-serve, small portions, few/no options. You’re probably wondering why they got sick a high rating. Well, the pork they served was fantastic. The place is amazing and, my husband says, the beer is great. We’ll definitely be back, but we’ll give them a while to get things figured out.
