The simplest way to describe this place is: Check your tastebuds at the door. If you want bland, uninspired food, this is your place. If you want something that doesn’t look and taste like a reheated frozen dinner, go down the road to the Burger King. Dirty carpet must taste better. The Bloody Mary was. Well. Bland. Totally unremarkable. The Perch dinner was decent. If you are desperate enough to go here, this is the meal to get. The pasta looked and tasted like Ragu. The kids pizzas resembled hubcaps with greasy melted goo on them. Why hasn’t Ramsey visited this place??? Maybe this is a nightmare that should be avoided.

Well then, let’s see what I can say about this restaurant. It’s sort of like the spot where most of the people who walks in here are the ones who’d say, «I’ve been coming here since the dinosaurs walked the earth.» Yea, it’s that one. The food is decent, it’s not bad, but it’s a little more to the good side. Some of the side dishes need to be worked on. The cole slaw is a tad bit bland and the rice pilaf tasted like it was about to turn. Tossed salad is really good and had a good variety of stuff in it. Also another good thing is their fish. They serve a ginormous portion for a very good price. If you enjoy eating fish, this is the place to pig out on it. Yes the setting is a little out dated, yes the food can probably get some overhauling, and maybe they can redecorate a little. Service is pretty good as well. That right there makes up for a lot. Life is great, let’s focus on the positive instead of the negative. Follow me on Instagram and snapchat: rodtorres3 Weeeeeeeeeee

We came to The Galley for breakfast. We barely had walked in the door and we were brought to be seated. Promptness would be a recording theme for this visit. It took approximately 5 minutes from being seated to our food being served, and that’s with 4 other tables just being sat down. I ordered the biscuits and gravy breakfast with 2 over medium eggs and American fries with onion. Loved the sausage gravy and everything else was as advertised. My wife ordered 2 pancakes, eggs, and bacon. She has a low tolerance for grease and said her breakfast was great. The prices are better than I would expect, both of our breakfast and my wife’s cup of decaf only set us back 15 $. Overall a very solid breakfast spot. I would definitely return.

Kind of out dated, but they specialize in prime rib and fish… the walleye was fabulous! !!!

So disappointed. I was honest and told the server the whitefish was tasteless and that the whole meal in general was not very good, and she said«well, that’s how whitefish is». She then said«I could try saying something or I can take your plate away». She was irritated that I didn’t like the food, and acted as if I should have known better. I guess I’ve just been spoiled by restaurants that care about silly things like quality and a good customer experience.

We waited almost an hour for a table. Granted we are a party of five. However the seater said that there was a problem in the kitchen and that was the hold up. The food was bland and needed seasoning. The service was just ok. We wouldn’t be back. Oh and it’s way over priced.

We had a lame-o server who just took forever and brought out all our food Luke warm. After waiting forever to get in and seated we just never had anyone helping us. It didn’t even seem that full. I’m sure it is an alright place but our experience was a loser one.

Great service, awesome view and the food was amazing! We stopped in for breakfast(served til 11:30) on a whim and were pleasantly surprised. Like other reviews have stated, don’t be fooled by it’s appearance, this place is great.

Broiled whitfish was amazing. The potato salad was pretty good as well. The fries were absolutely terrible. Interior seemed old and outdated. Fake dusty flowers as center pieces are never a good idea. In fact fake flowers in any place during the summer is never a good idea. Id probably go back again just because the fish was so good. Service was ok, not rude or anything just kind of dull and boring.

My hubby and I are very adventurous when it comes to food. So to see something like«whitefish liver» as an appetizer, we’re game. It’s nothing like the live baby octopus meal in Korea, but in these parts that was a nice surprise. The liver meal was not over drenched with flour batter so it preserved the creamy texture of the liver. We also ordered the assortment of lake fishes and they were also pretty good. I definitely will recommend this place. The beef pasties, that should be just taken off the menu. Just leave that part to the pasties expert.

My friend is here everytime she comes to the upper peninsula and she recommended that I try it out. Its so true. The service was great — attentive and very knowledgeable, the food portions were decent and the taste was good. After the meal, I did not have space for dessert. Will have to come back again.

Great find! I was a little wary because it does look dated(everything up North does). The food was fantastic. I opted for the whitefish which was very fresh and tasted wonderful. My wife got the walleye, which was perfect. Both dishes were seasoned exceptionally well and well suited to each fish. The chowder, according to the wife, was some of the best she’s had. I had a cabbage soup, which was also very good. During our stay, we ate there three times. Each time, the meal was very good. Hint, when the restaurant is less busy, the staff are much more relaxed and chatty. Service was always good, they are a very busy restaurant. I highly recommend The Galley.

The best food ever I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and fries and it was delicious at least 4 bites and I was stuffed and had to take the rest back to the hotel!!! Only 1 complaint– I do not like the lack of privacy in the bathroom the stall doors are so short someone as tall as my dad can just walk up and be able to look right into the stall!

My wife’s parents suggested this place for our family meal while we were up in the Mackinac area. From the outside, and then the inside, I wasn’t optimistic. And yes, in the end even the look of the food felt 70’s. BUT, everything tasted great, the prices were decent, service was OK, and my wife’s steak was cooked properly. It sounds crazy, but even the sear marks on the steak looked 70s. I ordered the whitefish fingers, which were lightly breaded and baked — not fried. They were really good. Coleslaw was good(more creamy than dry, which is fine to me). Tartar sauce was also good — a little more pickle relish than normal, giving it a nice sweet tangy taste. Everyone else at our table also enjoyed their food, which consisted of fish ‘n chips, vegetable pasty, and fish sandwich. I would happily come here again — as much as the interior needs an overall, it’s calming in a way to see an old-school establishment hanging in there doing what they’ve done for decades.

After a small win at the casino we came here for dinner seeking lake trout. We found it! I ordered the«senior» portion which was about $ 3.00 cheaper — and smaller. It came with two sides. I got the sautéed mushrooms. They’re canned — don’t order them. I also got the onion rings which were not made in house. They were pretty generic and small. My mom(the real senior) ordered the regular-sized portion of lake trout. She enjoyed it. Her salad was fresh, and she chose the baked potato. Good service, but not a memorable meal.

The Galley Restaurant & Bar hasn’t changed probably since its inception and I’m totally fine with that — the décor, friendly wait staff and cuisine is classic«Up North» faire. I visited Mackinaw with my dad recently and he insisted we go to dinner at the Galley. With plenty of parking, it was an easy ride into town from Mackinaw. I’ll get straight to the point: They’re known for their broiled Lake Superior Whitefish which my father ordered. The restaurant was busy but our food came out in a timely fashion. Regarding the cuisine, you can tell the difference — definitely fresh and no doubt cooked as simply as possible. I ordered a filet — splash a little A1 on it and I was happy! For desert we opted for applie pie. Hey we’re on vacation! :-) The Galley is a mainstay, no complaints what so ever. We left as happy as we were before we walked in.

This was quite a find. We mainly tried this place because they had whitefish livers on the menu and I had never seen that before. I was kind of leery to try the livers, but a person at a fish market in munising in the upper peninsula said we had to try them. I have to say it was one of the most incredible dining experiences ever. If you like chicken livers you will like these even better. Do make sure to try the lake trout as well(I tried broiled). It is by far one of my favorite fish to eat.

I have been to the Galley twice, both times ordering their broiled whitefish. The service has been fine both times, but the sides and the lack of seasoning and flavor in the fish leaves something to be desired. However, you are getting fresh whitefish when you go to this restaurant, which is nice to know. I ordered vegetables and a salad with blue cheese dressings along with the broiled whitefish. The salad was alright, but like another reviewer pointed out, they use iceberg and not romaine which was a little disappointing. The vegetables were inedible. They were clearly from the can. I had a quick taste and decided against eating them. My boyfriend also ordered the whitefish, but ordered french fries and salad as the side. The fries tasted like they were out of a bag(not sure if they were, but the sogginess and lack of flavor lead us to believe so). The fish itself was good and tasted fresh, but generally lacked flavor that could have been brought out with a little more seasoning. I believe if this place started using fresh local ingredients and at the very least experimented with a little seasoning, it would be a more frequented restaurant. The fact that they have an awesome property overlooking the lake is also wasted by the fact that they don’t have a porch or outdoor dining area.
