They need to improve the crust. The crust wasn’t as flaky and good as Muldoon’s. The filling was fine. Again, it wasn’t great. Maybe for the area, this is the place to get a pasty.

Yum! Yes there is very limited seating and yes they close early but who cares? We got 1 beef and 1 veggie with a side of sour cream, and it costs just over $ 11. Yummy seasoning, served hot, flaky crust– very good!

Let’s start with the good points. The pasties were delicious, the place was spotlessly clean, the owners were there making the food themselves, and they had all kinds of touristy stuff for sale. Now about the pasty, it’s not exactly a traditional Cornish style. It is more of an Americanized meat pocket. Still very delicious, just lacking the crust style and the accompanying flavor that would balance the stuffing.(This is only for pasty aficionados, most people won’t care or know the difference.) I had the turkey pasty with a side of beef gravy,(the only kind available). The crust had what appeared to be a whole wheat component in it. I liked it allot, it just wasn’t the traditional crust. The gravy tasted like a preprocessed factory made sauce that lacked a real meat flavor. I do recommend to get a «side» of gravy with the pasty, but don’t expect homemade. Now for the real downsides. Virtually everything is extra cost. If you want ketchup, it is either sold by the bottle, or by the pack. I have never seen a restaurant sell ketchup packets,(especially when it is at a place that sells food that almost demands ketchup). The counter person apparently was not from the USA, she had a hard time understanding our order and her accent seemed Ukrainian. Not a problem, but annoying to deal with. Like almost all of the local tourist food places, there is no inside seating, just a couple of weathered picnic tables on the lawn. If you have visited this area before, you know what this means, SEAGULLS! Lucky for us, the seagulls weren’t a problem on the day that we visited. The final verdict is that I say the place is good all in all, just understand what you’re getting. An American style pasty.

We were looking for pasties once we crossed into the UP. After the drive and checking into our cabin, the family was looking for a place to sit down and recover, this was not it. The small walk-up counter is all that is going on inside and be sure to get there early enough(before 6-ish? Granted, it is UP time); we arrived shortly after 5:30 and they were closed by the time we finished. The pasties themselves were nothing special. Everything tasted the same, like it had been boiled together and baked into the dough; I probably could have gotten a can of Dinty Moore and done about the same thing. But, at least we got pasties.

Ever since I can remember my dad took me to Suzy’s Pasties(pronounced past-ease) growing up. We’d even drive an hour each way from the family cabin to have these. They are perfect with out needing any toppings(no ketchup!!!). They’re warm and filling with great flavor. I only wish I could eat these every day. It will definitely be a family tradition I’ll pass on to my kids one day. I hope Suzy’s never changes and stays around forever. Some mentioned there is no indoor seating. So what? This is something you grab and then go eat at a park overlooking the lake outside on a nice sunny day. I always get several frozen ones to bring back home with me since I live several hours away(making one right now). Suzy’s makes the best pasties and I’ll never go anywhere else.

Delicious vegetable pastie. The dough was very well seasoned, filling was plentiful. I recommend!

After reading Unilocal reviews we were very excited to go to Suzie’s. There is no seating. We ordered 3 hot pasties, beef, turkey & vegetable. We found the dough was dense, heavy and not very tasty, the beef filling was okay, turkey filling was okay and the vegetable filling was very good. We also, took home some fudge(good) and fish spread which was so salty we threw it away after a small taste. We took home some gravy and that didn’t help much. This was our first pasty experience and it was not great but we will try one more place before deciding that this is a regional favorite that we can pass up. Also, my order was rung up for $ 10 more than what I bought… it could have just been an honest mistake, and when I called it to her attention she handed me a $ 10 dollar bill.

Out of all the pasties we tried while in St Ignace, Suzy’s rated #1! The crust is what really sets it apart from the competition. My turkey pasty came with the most flavorful whole wheat crust! It just had the perfect texture and consistency. It was chewy, and buttery, but not oily or dry, like a pie crust. The filling was flavorful, and had the right amount of moisture — not too dried out, like some we have had. And, we split one cup of gravy for two pasties — just the right amount! I’ve never thought pasties were anything spectacular, only getting them while up north, as a part of the whole U.P. experience. However, I actually find myself craving more of Suzy’s! Can’t wait to go back and get more!!!

Bomb dot com. I had the turkey pastie and my man had the beef. We split one side of gravy which was plenty and sat outside at the picnic table. Tasted great and peeps were super friendly

As a pasty fan who grew up eating these from my Kewenaw grandmother, I’d say not the best U.P. pasty. Filling is okay, but crust was flavorless and«doughy.» No indoor seating. And no jerky, despite what the sign said.

This is by far the best place in the upper peninsula for pasties! We discovered it a few years ago while driving from Escanaba(my hometown) to Howell, MI. The veggie pasty is the best I’ve ever had; seasoned crust, packed with veggies and cheese. Highly recommended! We picked up 2 veggie and 2 turkey pasties last weekend. Can’t wait to try the turkey!

Bought 6 frozen pasties from here on the way home from the UP. Baked a vege and a turkey one last night and their good! They taste like a chicken pot pie or a good bowl of chicken soup. Also bought the smoked fish dip and it was excellent. Bought a smoked trout and smoked whitefish and both were excellent. Only complaint is the pasties are pretty pricey at $ 5.25 each. Other than that loved it.

We heard about this place word-of-mouth while in the U.P. so we had to stop on the way back home. The pasties are absolutley spot-on. The dough is rich and the filling is seasoned perfectly. I would mail-order these if I could.

For those not in the know, a pasty is a pastry case filled with meat(typically beef) and sliced onions and potatoes. As far as this pasty fan is concerned, Suzy’s offers the more savory pasties in the UP!

We stopped here for their homemade beef jerky. The half pound we bought didn’t make it out of the U.P. Spicy, smoky, delicious.
