a pretty good sized book store with a decent selection of new and popular books. unfortunately everything is marked full price and most of what i was interested in was way out of my spending range for that time. it’s a shame because i saw a great cookbook i wanted but i knew i would find it anywhere else for much less. the woman behind the counter seemed nice and greeted me as i walked into the store but she just sat there behind the counter and ate her lunch. the entire time i was looking around i could feel her eyes on me watching me to see what i was looking for. after seeing the prices i felt awkward on leaving with her just gawking at me. i felt i needed a plan to get out of there when she didn’t notice. unfortunately nobody else came in to distract her so i thanked her and left quick. i definitely prefer the mom and pop shops over river house books and i would even love borders or barnes and nobel any day as well.

This is a cute little independent bookstore off of the main street in St. Helena. It’s a small place, so it doesn’t have the widest selection and from what I saw, it didn’t have any kind of selection that really stood out. And the employee was giving us the stare of death when we walked in shortly after 5pm. Even though they weren’t closed and the sign on the door says something about not having set hours but we’ll never close before 5pm, she looked very mad that we were there.
