Very disappointing dinner. Slow service. App was very blah. Steak came out over cooked. Waitress told is the wrong veggie of day. The basil salad dressing was excellent. Over priced.

What is is about living on the west side of the Missouri that causes restaurateurs to believe that we are unable to recognize good food? Many of us work in Chesterfield, Creve Coeur, St. Louis! We don’t forget what reasonably prepared food tastes likejust because its the weekend! So, blech. Sherlocks is AGAIN under new management. We were greeted by a lack-luster server who obviously did not like working there. The ambiance is nice. Rat-pack music. Soft. Quiet. The food: My daughter summed it up. The french-fries and the salad tasted ok. The Asian shrimp lettuce wraps are touted as shrimp in a light korean sauce but turned out to be over-cooked shrimp and cranberries in some sort of French dressing.(the manager, who was circulating, took one look at the material I was served and took the item of my bill). My daughters ‘grilled chicken on ciabatta’ was dry, tasteless flesh served on a biscuit with congealed mozzarella cheese. She got down half of it then, hating to waste food, asked for a box on which she scratched ‘Up for grabs’ rather than her normal ‘Shayna’s! Do not touch!‘ Maybe time for yet another owner…

Just a quick shot here. Pretty solid 3 star experience for me. I would describe the décor as upscale casual, or at least wanting to be. It’s all dark brown inside, with white tablecloths, an industrial/unfinished ceiling, and Frank Sinatra music playing on continuous loop. Actually fairly enjoyable atmosphere. I was sitting right by a door to the patio, and had to ask a waiter not to leave the door propped slightly open — as it was allowing both heat and road noise to come in. Come on, buddy, it’s about making the customers happy, not what’s easiest for you. Food seemed kinda pricey for the facility. And since it was my first visit, I didn’t really want a $ 30+ entrée for which I wouldn’t know the quality beforehand. So i saw an 8 oz bacon wrapped sirloin filet for $ 18 and went with that. Except that I forgot an 8 oz filet is pretty small when the filet is an inch thick. At least it had a good flavor. The side veggies were decent, just typical. I went with the potato of the day instead of a baked potato, which actually was a mistake. They were oven roasted potatoes, which were okay for what they were, but not as much as I would have liked and not as good as a baked potato. The wife got chicken kabobs, for $ 15, with the same sides as me. But her kabobs were excellent — generous portion, with moist peppers and onions on the kabob. One nice thing was that a pre-entrée salad was only $ 2.50. We opted for house salads with the house dressing — which was Mayfair. The salads had a mix mix of greens, with sliced/diced/cukes, tomatoes, onions, etc. around the edge. This allowed us to mix as much or little of it as we wanted in the salad — good for when you only want a little onion. The dressing was well tossed on the salad, and lightly applied — a good thing in my opinion for Mayfair. Service was very nice. Funny, all the waitresses must be required to be young and bottle blond. But ours was good with explaining all the choices and options, brought food quickly, cleared plates efficiently, filled drinks frequently. So, well, it was enjoyable enough. Food was decent, but not up to a four star level. Sherlock’s seems to be reaching for a bit more than it is, but it was still a good dinner.

I have only been there for the Sunday Brunch. As far as brunch buffets go this one was better than most. The owner is usually there and is very nice, and service was good as well. They had a carving station with ham and roast beef, and an omelet station. They also had eggs benedict, both traditional and with salmon. I had one of these and while the taste was excellent I think mine had been setting in the chafing dish for a while because the English muffin was hard. But that is what happens at a buffet. I would suggest trying to get one as soon as they come out of the kitchen. They also have typical brunch fare of scrambled eggs, sausage and plenty of delicious bacon(is there ever any bacon that is not delicious). There was a chicken dish and a pasta dish that looked and smelled wonderful, although I did not try them. Two different types of salads, and plenty of fresh fruit. Several types of desserts, cakes, brownies, cookies, etc. Overall it is a good place to go if you like brunch buffets. My wife and I took our Dad’s there on Father’s day on another visit and the staff really wowed us and made sure we were taken care of. We would go again.

Overpriced for okay food. Happy hour and service is decent but nothing amazing. We only come when we have a living social coupon.

Stopped in for happy hour with a couple girlfriends. The service in the bar was quick and the bartender was very knowledgeable. We all enjoyed our appetizers. I also love that it’s smoke free and has a nice ambiance. I will return!

Went there for Easter brunch this morning. Knowing they serve brunch every week, we figured it would be great. Couldn’t be more wrong!!! We had reservations around 1:00. Waited almost 45 minutes after our reservation, before they told us they were waiting to seat people because the kitchen was trying to catch up. When they did finally seat is, the place was a mess. The had run out of most of the food and were just making things at random. Burners were not even on in the warming bins. They ran out of eggs and roast beef, really??? Very disappointing for all of our family. After looking at the food when they finally seated us, even the starving kids didn’t want to eat there. Don’t understand such failure. Will not be back and will tell everyone I can this story.

I go to Sherlock’s on a regular basis and absolutely love it. I have tried many things on the menu and have never been disappointed. The staff is excellent and will do anything to make sure your experience is a positive one. See you there.

We went to Sherlock’s to celebrate my sister-in-law’s 22nd birthday. She wanted to go somewhere that she had never been before and we found Sherlock’s by browsing the Internet. We were able to make reservations online, which was great, and our party of 6 was seated immediately. The food was reasonably priced and everyone thought their food was good/decent for the price. The service we received from our waitress was not good. She was very slow and even though the restaurant wasn’t super busy, it took a LONG time for us to get drinks… then salads… then bread… then finally our meal… not to mention refills. We were seated by an emergency exit and there was a strong draft, which made it very cold(I kept my big coat on the entire time, and my four year old stayed in my lap after he ate to cuddle up and stay warm). Also, when we made our reservations online, we indicated that we were going there to celebrate a birthday, but there was no acknowledgement of it by the waitress or restaurant. There is a bar area, and a live band/musician on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. This area is separate from the dining area where we ate, so it was still very family friendly but can also be a fun place to go out with your friends if that is what you are looking for.

First off, the service was wonderful. Our server was attentive and accommodating. All of the front staff was friendly and helpful. That said, whoever has changed the menu in the last month should probably have checked first on fan favorites before cutting them from the menu. Wedge Salad(a favorite of everyone I’ve talked that had gone there) … gone. Baked half chicken, a perennial favorite… gone. Four once steak, my wife’s favorite… gone. The(unfried) chicken selection is down to three selections. Marsala, cordon bleu and kabobs. As all of our favorite choices have been removed, it’s highly unlikely we’ll return. Too bad, as we’ve been going there several times a month for several years.

My dear college roommate and her fiancé bought a house in Cottleville, so naturally we celebrated her bachelorette party in this neck-of-the-woods. After a less than thrilling time at Cottleville Wine Sellers we made our way down to Sherlock’s for some pre-dinner drinks then some food. Our waitress was an absolute gem! She kept suggesting cocktails and shots for the table and was quick to turn them around to us — we had RumChata + Three Olives Loopy among many others and it was fantastic! As for the food, it’s your typical American restaurant fare. At my friend’s suggestion I had the homemade chips in lieu of french fries. I dipped the chips in the side of blue cheese dressing that came with my buffalo chicken wrap and really enjoyed it. There was live music down in the bar area and we were having a great time upstairs in the dining area. Thankfully those sitting around us didn’t seem to mind when our laughing and talking got a little loud.

I had high hopes for Sherlock’s in Cottleville, but my hopes were dashed during a Sunday brunch visit. The food was half-decent, in fact the Eggs Benedict were quite savory, but the place is filthy. The carpets are disgusting, the tables half clean, the staff cooking behind the line, the omelette station for example, were not dressed appropriately. Sherlock’s has all the feel of a nightclub, not a place to eat.

I was impressed with the house salad and the homemade Mayfair dressing and the wonderfully crusty warm bread. The service was poor. With only 3 tables in the dining room the waitress was usually non-existent. We ordered the lead menu item the Cottleville Classic — baked chicken cordon bleu with vegetable dujour. What a disappointment! It was a stuffed chickenloaf. It appeared deep-fried rather than baked; I would guess at best deep fried at a processing plant, frozen, delivered to Sherlock’s and maybe baked, but I still believe deep fried from the intense serving temperature. The cheese inside was processed Swiss at best reduced to a liquid from the frying. The vegetables dujour were a frozen vegetable medley lacking any texture. Obviously they could have been the vegetable of yesterdujour, or tomodujour, as they were frozen several weeks ago dujour. l

Decent option if you’re in the area! There’s a nice patio and a pretty standard menu and service is always great. They’re nothing about Sherlock’s that’s really that special, but dining options in the area are limited. The huge plus side is that they have a great wine list and can make any cocktail you want. As far as menu items go, the french dip is pretty out of this world and my mom absolutely loves the shrimp scampi wrap. They have all kinds of salads, sandwiches, and entrees, so you’ll definitely be able to find something you want. There’s usually live music going on inside, but you can’t hear it from the patio which is kind of sad. Not too much to say here besides this is an A-OK place to eat in Cottleville. That being said, it’s a much better choice than the chain places that take over the area!

Our intent was to use a dining coupon at Thyme Out but my GPS could not find it, so when I called they told me they were fully booked with reservations that night. So being right there, we had a return visit to Sherlock’s. We can always use the AA miles. We made a return to the crab Rangoon which we remembered as good. They still had the well flavored filling, but the wrappers were tough on this night, really chewy. We talked ourselves out of real dinners and ended up with two sandwiches instead. Ms T had the fish and I had a half lb burger. Both were really pretty good. There were two nice pieces of fish on her sandwich and half of it came home. She selected the vegetable du jour, which was sautéed beans, carrots etc. She was not happy that they were heavily seasoned with black pepper, but to me that is one of the vegetables. After all black pepper is a major food group. My burger was as good as I have had around here. It was juicy and just pink. It had a good grill crust and was well seasoned. It would have been good without the addition of bacon and mushrooms. They serve some good mild cure sliced pickles that I included. I also brought half of it home, not needing a half pounder at one sitting. My side of slaw was interesting. It was dressed with sort of a raspberry vinaigrette. Other than being a little oily, it was good. It was of the pickled or marinated style. Sherlock’s was bustling on a Saturday night. I still don’t like walking through the smoky bar, but the dining area where we sat was clear of smoke. I would return to Sherlock’s for a burger or the fried chicken that I had previously

It’s a solid 3 star place. I go here a lot for happy hour on Fridays and sit with my friends at the bar. The bartenders are awesome. Super attentive and make great drinks. The bar does get pretty smoky and I wish they’d adopt the St. Louis no smoking rule. That itself might push up my rating. The food… eh. It’s alright. I usually just get a pretzel because that’s really good and comes with two awesome sauces. My friends enjoy the beef carpaccio a lot which I’ve never tried. Happy hour prices make food better. :) I’ve eaten dinner in the restaurant section twice and again both times were just ok. I’ve had better and I’ve certainly had worse. I had the steakhouse stroganoff and the flavors were good but the beef was really tough. My husband had the ribeye and as a ribeye lover, he said it was a little too sinew-y for his liking. For happy hour or to listen to some good live acoustic music on a Friday night, the bar is a great little hang. If you’re looking for a good steak, I’d try elsewhere.

I have been to Sherlock’s several times and have always been treated very well. My whole family loves steak and my «picky» kids clean thier plates every time we go there. I have found that they are willing to accomodate us with anything we order. I ordered the BLT sandwich and had them place steak medallions on it — what a sandwich!!! They seem to be busy just the same as all resturaunts, Friday and Saturday evenings. I would recommend at least calling ahead. We went there one Friday without calling ahead and the wait was longer than we wanted so we ate at the bar. We were able to order off the full menu and were served promptly. The menu is around 4 pages so there is plenty to order without be too complicated. The steak kabobs are awesome and served on a sizziling platter. Delicious. The hot-hot wings are great too. I wasn’t a fan of the lettuce wedge, but the house salad was great. The salad dressing was delicious and I was told that the chef makes his dressings in house. I had some red wine called«Karma» and it was really good. It held it’s flavor and body with all of my dishes. The bottom line for me is that I am not a fan of the«big box» resturaunts. I ALWAYS try to support my local mom and pop shops. If you go here with an open mind and an empty stomach you leave with a smile! Bön apetit! da

Last weekend, hubs decided to take me on a date night. So, we agreed to do something close to home so we opted for Sherlock’s Steak & Seafood. I had gotten a $ 50 gift card on for The catch with the gift card was that we had to spend $ 100. Easy enough. So we started out with appetizers. Fried Pickles. I had anticipated pickle chips. Instead spears with ranch. They were pretty good. Then we moved onto entrée round. I opted for the Crab Cakes as it was a seafood place. Let’s just say I was not a fan. It had green peppers in the mix and a lot of breading. As my starch I had a potato gratin, which also was just okay. I wasn’t too excited over all. Hubs had the rib-eye. He’s quite the steak guy, so he is pretty particular about the end result. Overall, it was over seasoned and kinda fatty. On top of that, it was under cooked. One too many things going on there. It had a compound butter on the top with fried green onions on top which was a little interesting. So, at this point, we’re not too impressed, but we went for dessert. I opted for the Red Velvet Cake. Hubs had a Peanut Butter Bomb. He said it was like an over sized Reeses & Butterfinger mix. He said it was good. I do believe that they don’t make their desserts in house, but I could be wrong. So overall, we weren’t quite at the $ 100 mark, so we got another round of cocktails and then got desserts to go. Overall, we agreed it was probably not the best for dinner. The burger/wrap/sandwich menu looked really good. There was a shaved prime rib wrap that Jeff wanted to try. So, for dinner, we rated it a 6⁄10. But will try for lunch.

Sherlock’s Steak and Seafood is located in the town of Cottleville just up the road from Mannino’s Market. Sherlock’s, which is in the space that was vacated by Travena’s, is attempting to exist as an upscale restaurant by St. Charles County’s standards. It was grandma’s birthday and she wanted to try something new. She found a $ 25 gift certificate for $ 6 on , so with Jr. in tow we checked out Sherlock’s on Sunday night. Sherlock’s has a nice ambiance and a large horseshoe shaped bar. The location really has a lot going for it. I was pleased to see that kids eat free on Sundays and that there’s a kid’s steak on the menu. This was a huge plus since steak is one of the three things that Jr. will actually eat. We really got a great value with the kids eat free deal paired with the gift certificate. All of the items on the kids menu were normally $ 4.95 and included a drink. Not bad. The food was really pretty good. The kid’s steak was way above average and was even topped with steak butter. Ma ordered a NY strip which was also quite tasty. I downed the salmon, since Cottleville, Missouri is such a renowned seafood destination… Oh yeah, I started with a salad tossed in mayfair dressing which was on a cold plate.(When a restaurant takes the time to actually toss a salad, and then has the foresight to serve it on a cold plate… well that scores big points with this commonsseur!) I have to so that I’m very happy that I didn’t have to pay full price because even though the food was above average, the service was fairly weak. The menu prices for steaks ranged from $ 20-$ 25. I don’t mind paying that or more for a steak as long as there is decent service to go along with it. Our server was pretty clueless. He knew very little about the menu. He didn’t pre-bus our table until after the bill was paid which is a pretty major foul in my book. I don’t care if I’m at Tony’s or at Steak n’ Shake, I want my dirty plates taken away when I’m done eating. In his defense, I don’t think there was a busser on duty and he did have 5 or 6 tables. I do not think there was any sort of manager on duty either outside of the bartender who was busy with bar patrons. All in all, I’d say that if you can snag a coupon or a g.c. deal then Sherlock’s isn’t a bad choice. I just don’t think it’s worth the prices on the menu. P. S. Ma said that the dishware was cheap and belonged in a diner. Didn’t bother me, but it seemed to stick in her craw.
