Where do I start?! First sign of «NO» was when I looked in and saw all the old people aged 75+. Second sign was when we sat down and the waitress walked by with food while cussing the kitchen. Third sign was the Snows Clam Chowder that came out in a cup. The downward spiral continued. After another 45 minutes, our meals came. The server tried to smooth the wait over, so I give her credit. EVERYONE had an awful meal. The«crab cake» was frozen and looked like my morning stool. The Scallops were fried lightly and watery. They were disgusting. The broccoli was rubbery«watered», not«buttered» as advertised. The baked potatoes were like bricks on the sidewalk. The only redeeming factor was the gator bite appetizer. The whole time all I could think of was the show«Restaurant Impossible.» They need to come and save this place!!! AVOIDATALLCOSTS!

we are from out of town and went there for the first time waited about an hour to get seated and it took an hour and a half or longer to get the food. Had the pork chop ribeye which was very good, appetizer gator was OK as was the calamari. We did not even receive an apology for the wait. Definitely not worth the wait.

Had coconut shrimp with cheese grits and slaw! Meal was good. Others in our group had their orders messed up with things missing. They did get them fixed. Over all a good meal. Just not as smooth an eating experience as before.

We eat at Barnacle Bills at least twice each year we are down here. Best fried shrimp and best seafood platter in St Augustine. Very reasonably priced and has great vegetables also!

Décor is somewhat dated and in need of a little renovation but still clean. Waitress was very friendly and took care of everything we needed. I had fried shrimp which was good, not the best but nothing to complain about. My wife had a ribeye steak which for a seafood restaurant was surprisingly good. The best thing about this restaurant is the sides. I can’t believe anyone in Florida can cook okra that good but they do, The Cole slaw is very good also. Maybe a bit pricy.

I think Barnacle Bills has the best fried shrimp anywhere!!! I have been going there for over 30 years, in fact since it has been around and have never had any better. It is a family type restaurant, nothing fancy, but as good as it gets when it comes to fried shrimp. Shrimp are good size and fresh! and lightly battered!

We have gone there since it opened and today it was awful. Shrimp and grits were a bowl full of cheese poured over some over cooked shrimp and grits. Oysters were losing their coating before you could get them to your mouth. Service was untrained.

Let’s start here… our waitress was excellent. Unfortunately, the food was medicore at best, ticket times were long even though it wasn’t busy and the atmosphere was average. Unless you are on a quest to eat at every restaurant in St Augustine, I’d suggest skipping this place.

We were visiting from out of town. The clam chowder both red and white are super yummy! The mahi mahi surprise or whatever it’s call is yummy has black beans under and a fresh salsa on top. The lunch plate with fried shrimps and scallop was ok. Nothing to rave about. The fried were you typical seafood shack fries. Service was really really slow. We ordered the clam chowder to go a second time while in town because it was so good.

Barnacle bill was a cool little down home restaurant. The décor is a little fishy. That was a joke, not pond intended. Small two room restaurant. My dad and I were greeted and seat immediately. Our server was a gentleman, he was straight to the point. Not much personality but he got the job done. I order the Alligator tail with okra and salad. I was thinking Florida has to have some bomb Alligator tail. It was very tasty. The sauce that came with it was such a good match. The Alligator tail was fried to perfection. Not greasy all and you can tell the grease is fresh. So delicious. The portions are a bit hefty. My dad got the seafood platter. It looked great. My dad didn’t share so I can’t tell you what it taste like. We shared the crab bites and they were yummy. Lots of crab I’m them. Overall I had a great experience. I deducted a star because of the server. He need to lighten up and get some lessons I southern hospitality.

Just back from a delish dining experience at Barnacle Bill’s in St. Augustine Florida. Ate way too much because we just couldn’t help it. The Minorcan Clam Chowder(red) was out of this world. I was also blown away by the Broiled Seafood Trio, which included scallops, shrimp, and mahi mahi, covered in a parmesan saucy topping. I am not a huge fan of fried shrimp so cannot comment, but my girlfriend says it was the best she’s ever had. Our waitress, Lynnie, completely took care of us. We weren’t sure what to order so she said to leave it to her, and she did us right. Nothing but good eating experiences so far on our Florida tour.

Barnacle Bills, aside from the name is a pretty standard seafood shack, well it’s less a shack and more a restaurant, but you know what I mean. You come here for the fried seafood. Period. If you come with other expectations, then you’ll be disappointed. It’s like if you go to KFC and order a hamburger, it won’t be good. The fried shrimp is the star of the show. Fried to golden brown with a nice crust, it comes in orders of 6, 9 or 12 along with two sides and two hushpuppies. I have to say, I really enjoy their hushpuppies. As someone already mentioned in their post, it wasn’t oily at all. In fact, I think it was on the line of being just a tad dry. The service is quick and responsive. The food is not your doctor’s best friend, but as long as this isn’t a everyday meal… I think you’ll be okay. Be advise, the parking lot is very tight so if possible try to back in as it’ll help you on the flip side.

My wife and I had dinner around 6:00 on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was only 1⁄3 occupied. I tried a sample of the Minorcan chowder. It was spicy as the server, Kathy, mentioned. I went with the New England clam chowder which was pretty good. I had one of the restaurant’s favorites, the fried shrimp dinner. It came with 8 lightly battered and butterflied fried shrimp. They were delicious. The Cole slaw and hush puppies were good. My wife had several side dishes since she is not a seafood eater.

I would liken Barnacle Bills to a Long John Silvers. The«fresh fish» was all square shaped similar to what is found in McDonalds. I ordered fried shrimp sampler with 3 different flavor a of batter. I could not taste the difference in batter flavor not could I taste the shrimp. Service was sub-par and the atmosphere was tacky. Great location and price isn’t terrible if you’re looking for quick food.

We were looking for seafood so thought we’d give it try. Sat down(not much in the way of atmosphere) and waited… and waited… and waited. Wait staff came by into our little corner by the door at least 5 times asking the the other 2 tables of people if they need anything else(they didn’t) but completely ignored us. About the time we began to believe we were invisible we decided to leave, hungry… and thirsty.

My family has been eating here since I was a child. We love their fried shrimp, casseroles and onion rings. We dined here and then my dad took us all over the shops around town My dad loved eating lunch specials here also. This restaurant holds many special memories, including my last birthday dinner with my dad. I did not know then he would not be with me this year. My mom and I hold this restaurant as a special place in our hearts. Great seafood and special memories. We continue to dine here.

Over all the food was good. Sea scallops were more like bay scallops Small. Got there early but could not be seated until the lat 2 of our group arrived even though the place was half full.
