Not only is Carrie Hennessey an amazing opera singer, she also teaches voice lessons! I met Carrie about a little over a year ago through my mom who was involved with Music in the Mountains. Carrie just so happened to be doing a workshop with my mom’s choir and amazed my mother with her vocal technique tips. I just so happened to be looking for a new voice teacher, wanting to advance in my studies as an aspiring opera singer. My mom raved about how great she was and told me I should contact Carrie. So I did! During my first few lessons with her I remember learning a lot from her, a lot of things I wasn’t able to grasp with my other previous voice teachers. It was like my eyes were opened and everything was starting to make perfect sense. With every lesson I learned something new. She is so motivating, understanding, and inspirational. It’s nice to be working with another singer who actually gets what goes on, can relate, and understand what is happening with the voice. She’ll keep trying new things with you till you catch on and begin to understand what it is she is trying to teach you. She is also great at wording things in a way that makes sense to you as a singer. As a teacher she will help you discover your ‘true voice.“ Even if you have bad habits from the past there is still hope. I know this because I am living proof of that. I came to Carrie Hennessey with shallow breath control, a tight jaw, unnatural vibrato, and a voice that I came up with in my head of how I should sound. Since I have been with Carrie I have found my true voice as a singer and am able to use it in it’s natural state. I am advancing in the jaw and breath control area. She has helped me come to the realization of how to use the right technique. She has also taught me to be aware of what my body is doing even when I’m not singing because even if your not singing, you still have to remember how to breathe and use your jaw properly so you can get it engraved in your brain. Otherwise it will be harder to sing using the proper technique. Carrie takes all kinds of students whether your an aspiring opera singer(like myself), in choir, have a damaged voice, or are just wanting to become a better singer. You can be advanced, intermediate, or beginner it doesn’t matter. So if your looking for a voice teacher this is why I highly recommend Carrie Hennessey. She teaches in the Sacramento area. as well as Grass Valley.

How often do you get to be taught by a living, breathing diva?! In the dictionary, it says a diva is a «usually glamorous and successful female performer or personality.» Carrie’s all that — AND she loves to share her talents and skills to help you find your true voice. I’ve had the opportunity to work with Carrie for the past year and she’s taken me from a timid, whispering alto to a much more confident«almost» soprano. She combines a solid technical approach and tailors it to your abilities and the way you learn to achieve your singing goals. The bonus is her enthusiasm, encouragement, and often wacky sense of humor. She is a WONDERFUL teacher. Sign up for lessons with her NOW!

I take advantage of the twice-monthly lessons Carrie offers in Nevada City. It is absolutely wonderful to have access to this caliber of instruction without making the drive to Sacramento. Carrie is a natural at teaching, with an extremely keen eye for the little details that get in the way of your voice. She is flexible with her teaching style and never gets stuck trying to hammer in an analogy that isn’t working for you. She also has an infectious joy and love of singing that inspires and reinvigorates your practice. If you’re willing to let her break you down to basics, either as a beginner or a long-time student, you’ll find ease and expression in your voice you never thought possible. My only complaint is that her re-immersion into the opera world means that it is only a matter of time until we lose her to a busy career. I am taking full advantage of this opportunity while I can. There are several other wonderful teachers in the Sacramento region, but Carrie is most definitely top-tier, and your voice will be in good hands with her.
