Delicious yumminess in a cup! Omg, it’s like a Mexican fiesta going on in my mouth!!! Best $ 6 I spent this whole month.

its so funny this has its own corner of Unilocal and i cannot help but smile in reading the other review its a mexican thing– in mexico(and LA) there are tons of these portable fruit stands– we like to put salt lemon and chili on almost everything– cucumbers, fruit, potatoes… its so tasty i think this thing is way overpriced but i have to admit that i was so excited to see one here because its been a while since ive been to mexico. the truth is that mexicans make this in their home all of the time and sometimes prepare it as an appetizer. usually refered to as pico de gallo

I work off of Northgate Blvd a couple of times a month, and I always drive past this rainbow colored umbrella, with a bunch of people waiting and/or eating something around it. Sometimes the umbrella is located in front of DDs discounts, and sometimes it is a couple of blocks further away from the freeway, and on the other side of the street. The other day I was driving home from work and hungry, so I rolled by slowly to see what it was. It turns out to be Mexican style fruit cups. These are huge plastic cups, filled with chopped to order melon, mango, cucumber, jicama, and pineapple. Then they squeeze a lime over the top of it, and sprinkle on some salt and chili powder. After I got out of my car, I noticed that I was the only gringa in a line of 6 people, but I lean like a chola, so it’s all good. Anyway, the cup of fruit cost $ 5, but it was enough for two people, and really good quality fruit. With the lime juice, chili powder, and salt, you feel like you are eating junk food, but you get all the nutrition of fruit. Highly recommended.
