Being a huge fan of the movie Animal House, how could I pass up a visit to the Delta House in Old Sac? I was pleasantly surprised with their excellent(and piping hot) New England clam chowder and their fish and chips were very good and not at all greasy. This is a nice little place right in front of the Delta King and real good for a quick meal before a Rivercats game!

We came to Old Town to go to the really good Indonesian restaurant next door to this place but they were closed — at 6.30! I find it strange that a food venue would close at dinnertime but OK. So we thought we would have fish & chips instead. I’n a Brit. I *know* my fish and chips and I promise you this is not good fish and chips. Would not go back.

Just about every time I am in Old Sac with my family this is the place for us. My girlfriend and I took our 5 kids(yes I said 5) to this location on a whim the first time during Western Days in Old Sac and we hit the gold mine. The food is affordable and comes in good portions. My sons were never big on seafood until they came here… now they can’t get enough of the calamari and chips! The staff is friendly and patient(very important when ordering for 7 people with different taste buds) and customer service is great. We sat outside and the combination of good food, a cold beverage and excellent people watching makes this a must stop if you are in the area. We have been here multiple times since and I was just recently there with my family from Florida and the food, service and atmosphere never gets old.

For the fish and chips I give it two stars but for the fish tacos I give it four stars. I really like the sauce they use in the tacos.

Keep on a walking!!! Usually Unilocal is reliable(in fact this is the first time I’ve had a bad experience after following Unilocal reviews when choosing a place to eat) Fish was rubbery and even though it was freshly prepared, the batter wasn’t crunchy at all. The malted vinegar(which is a must with fried fish) had some sort of slimy mass floating around in the bottom of every bottle and the floors were disgusting and sticky. Keep on a walking is my opinion.

Maryann C and I decided to come in today, and it was pretty rad outside– so that’s where we sat. The two men behind the counter were extremely chill. I ordered a bread bowl(claimed to be homemade:) and a Corona with lemon…;’twas that kinda sunny. The food came out in a timely manner, and the soup(they toasted my bread!!!) was pretty decent– I like it hott, so doused it with Tapatio(rock star style) Mary had Sierra Ale (on tap) and the fish ‘n chips– they were pretty great, you know, typical deep fried seafood.(I know because I swipe things, and she doesn’t seem to mind) I wouldn’t become a regular here, or anything, but on a weekday, its a cool place to come and grab a bite next to the river.

This was a gem in the rough. Surprisingly good, fresh food at reasonable prices right on the waterfront in Old Sac. Probably been down there hundreds of times looking for something like this. The weather was chilly but the doggies were with us so we needed to sit outside. Seems like there’s some effort going into making that bench area around Delta House and Indo Café a little nicer. There’s extra benches and a fairly clean restroom around the corner towards Rio City. Started with the clam chowder in a sourdough bowl. Great chowder! Creamy but not too thick with lots of clams and fresh vegies. When I ordered, one of the cooks was chopping celery for it so I assume it’s made on the premises. Stayed hot till we hit the bottom of the bowl. It’s $ 1.50 extra for the sourdough, but I wouldn’t skip it. They serve up what’s scooped out to make room for the soup on the side. Warm you up yummies! The fish/shrimp/fries combo was very good. I’m more of a crunchy-coating rather than batter-fried kind of gal, but it all was hot, fresh and well-seasoned. The shrimp were decent sized and not over cooked. Got a side of fried clams. Seemed like those were probably frozen, just o.k. Guess you can only hope for so much :) The cooks brought our items out to us as they were ready. Thought that was pretty cool even if they weren’t that busy. With the food, the chill and a saxophonist playing across the street there was definitely a San Fran vibe going on. Oh yeah, the Giants were winning Game 2 of the World Series when we got home!

This is a charming little fish and chips stand next to the Delta King in Old Sac. I love the rustic wooden bench seating outside — it offers a great view of the drunk people stumbling off the Delta King after a party. It’s quite entertaining. The food was meh. From what the signs said, the food is supposed to be a taste of San Francisco in Sacramento. Bf and I ordered SF staples — fish and chips, clam chowder in a bread bowl, and two Coronas — our tab was about $ 22. Fish and chips were OK — the fish was piping hot but, not burned and the batter wasn’t overwhelming. The chowder was good but, it lacked the big chunks of potato and clams in SF style chowder. It was also a bit on the watery side. The bread bowl was bland — it wasn’t sour enough for SF sourdough. Don’t get me wrong though — this is some GOOD fish and chips and clam chowder in Sac. Bf and I drove to Fisherman’s Wharf in SF the next day and ordered the same fare — fish and chips, clam chowder in a bread bowl, and two Anchor Steams(local SF beer) and our tab came to $ 22 — which is the same as Delta House. That’s the standard that I used to compare the Delta House meal to. They’re also open pretty late. Bf and I were here around 10 p.m. on a Saturday night, which is near their closing time. Not a bad place to grab a pre-drink snack before heading to the bars down Firehouse Alley.

Best Fish & Chips ever! Right in heart of old Sacramento. I waited 15 minutes for my order– oh my. It is worth the wait! When I bite fish & chip– it melt in your mouth. Perfect! If you have craving for ‘British’ Fish & Chips– go there!

Talk about a diamond in the ruff. This little shop is AWESOME! My boyfriend took our tribe of children to this place while walking around in Old Sac. You blink your eye and you will miss this one but don’t! You get a pretty good amount of food for the price and it is VERY good! I love the Clam Strips and again VERY affordable and pretty good customer service. Whenever we go to Old Sac … Delta House it is! :)

My girlfriend and I stopped here for a quick bite to eat after a ride on the Hornblower. We ordered a plate of fish tacos since neither of us were really hungry. The fish portion was generous, the fish was cooked just right, and the plate came out fast. The tortilla ripped a little too easily for my liking, but the other aspects of the taco definitely made up for this one flaw. Will definitely visit again for a much larger meal next time I’m in Old Sac.

I have seen this little place on the side of the walkway. If you blink you will walking right by it. Walking into this ultra white establishment reminds you of the all time deli around the corner. There are two tables inside with benches. There is a small, I do mean small wooden two-chair /round table by the front door also. It’s tiny. The ladies that man the counter are friendly. The menu is above them but I would advise you to look at the colored picutre menu taped to the door as you come in. It has everything you want if you were looking into a simi seafood plate. It’s not the usual greasy place. It does have that look. Step aside to the first impression and let your tentative side try something. I enjoyed a fish, shrimp and fries plate for almost nine dollars. It’s worth it. Believe me when she brings the plate out to you smell the aroma. Now close your eyes after dipping a piece of shrimp or fish in the cocktail sauce and take a bite.(oops.I almost forgot this cocktail sauce has bite to it.) It’s delicious. Seriously try this little place. I consume this delightful plate with my daughter. She’s a picky eater(but what girl isn’t). She enjoyed the crisp dark yellow french fries with ketchup. The fish is crisp with the batter the ladies use. It’s a worthy bite with tarter sauce that is provide. You can try the malt vinegar if you wish. I never got the chance. The pictures on the door shows an outrageous salad which was awesome. It says on the menu that they make their own clam crowder. We tried it. It was alright. I am just used to a different sort of clam crowder. Nevertheless this is a great place to eat. I went outside and sat at the tables on the boardwalk. It was the right thing to do to enjoy the entire eating experience. Remember go with an open mind. Over-look the establishment. Go for the nice friendly ladies(I saw one of the ladies make an entire plate of food for homeless guy to eat. if that isn’t nice.: tell me what is?) and the great food. Try it. On one of those slow days in Old Sac with the wind gentle blowing. Try it. The ladies assure me that this place is opened seven days a week until about 6 or 6:30 p.m.

This teeny hole in the wall turned out to be an ok spot for a quick weekday lunch. The employees were friendly, the restaurant was clean, and my food arrived piping hot and very quickly. The portions seem a bit off though. I ordered the scallops, fish, and chips meal. I’ve eaten scallops plenty of times and here at Delta House they’re half the size that I’m accustomed to. For the price I paid I expected a bit more fish as well.

We were looking for a dog friendly spot to enjoy lunch and decided that one of the casual takeout spots on Front St. with outdoor picnic table seating would be our best option. I’m so glad that we made this decision, we grabbed a quiet table away from the main walkway where the dogs could relax. Inside Delta House has about three long tables and benches, but it seems like most people opt to eat their food outside instead. We ordered the clam chowder in a sourdough bowl which was absolutely delicious. Rich and creamy soup with large chunks of clams served perfectly hot in a chewy sourdough bowl. When we first saw the catfish and chips we were worried that they were overcooked and would be dry, the first bite revealed perfectly deep fried catfish that were moist and flavorful. The deep fried shrimp were absolute perfection, we were given fresh plump shrimp that we gobbled up in a flash. We also enjoyed the fish and chips, and while I would have preferred larger more substantial pieces of fish the batter was light and flaky making their fish and chips fairly addictive. We also ordered the steamed dungeness crab and while it was delicious with the lemon and drawn butter it was not sweet and juicy when eaten alone and I’m not sure if I would order this from them again as at $ 20.00 it was the most expensive item we ordered. The pups enjoyed their time lazing around the table and we enjoyed a delicious meal, I can’t think of a better way to spend an afternoon.
