The quality of their al pastor meat has not been consistent. The first time I went here, it was juicy; the second time, it was dry. It really is a hit or miss with this place. On the plus side, the staff is nice and they have happy hours from 3 – 6 everyday. Their chips and salsa bar is also very good. Overall: I’m keeping this review short and to the point — good service and nicely priced, but the quality of food varies. I’m still on the hunt for an amazing burrito place, so I’m moving on from this one.

I have not been to Taqueria Mi Estrella since I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. I was afraid of eating too much food that was high in sodium and most Mexican places put a lot of salt in their sauces and seasonings. Fortunately my girl friend talked me into going there tonight. The lady that takes our orders is the owner. She is always extremely nice to us and treats us like royalty. Her older son is the cook and her younger son’s girl friend helps out. All three are super friendly and always seem to work extremely hard to satisfy their customers. Being drugged out on all my heart medication, please don’t expect me to remember their names even though I really should know them. Getting back to my story, we walked up to the cash register to order after not having been there in months and we could immediately tell the owner was extremely happy to see us. I don’t know about you but this kind of thing always makes me feel really good inside. I explained to her that we had not been there because I have had some heart problems and that I need something low in sodium. She turned and discussed the situation with her son who had some very helpful ideas. I had three of their larger corn tortillas stuffed with shrimp, cilantro, tomato, onion, red bell pepper and who knows what else. The point is, they were loaded with shrimp and mounds of delicious fresh vegetables with wedges of fresh lime on the side. I immediately fell head over heels in love with the dish. It was love at first bite, truly another emotional moment in my arduous quest to find great food that is also low in sodium.

Love their barbacoa and agua de pina. Yummy food, cheap prices, good salsa bar, and friendly service.

I’ve been eating at this place for months now, so I don’t know why it’s listed today in the«Hot New Businesses» section as having opened on August 4, but if it brings more attention to Taqueria Mi Estrella… more power to ‘em! This place is on the short list of places selling tacos for $ 1.00 in Sacramento, and they’re plenty good for that price or even 50 cents more! Gotta love the hand-written signs on the windows, written in gang-inspired tag graffiti style, but no so well… as if the writer is a neophytic middle-schooler. You can’t really make out some of the words or prices too well. But it’s a friendly place… at least once you’re indoors in the ultra-bright fluorescent lights. There are places I prefer, but when I wanna stay close to home and eat Mexican on Stockton Blvd, this or Taqueria Agave are your best choices… especially since Taqueria Pancho Villa took a dip in the quality department after taking over from La Favorita.

Another great little Taqueria close to my neighborhood! Stockton Blvd. has got to be one of THE most popular streets containing more restaurants per square foot then any other street in Sacramento! I have eaten here twice in the last few weeks, and have had good service with quality food both times. The owner comes out to greet us and then proceeds to prepare our food. This cozy family owned business located in a common strip mall, has a nice selection of meals to choose from. It would be hard to get bored eating here. Prices are reasonable, so I find myself ordering more than I can eat! I’ve had their chille rellano combination plate that included Mexican rice, refried beans and salad. Tortillas were also included with the meal, not to mention the complimentary tortilla chips and salsa. This was definitely more for the«hungry man» appetite, with the amount of food you get! The nacho fries were cheesy good too. The second time we ate here I decided to get something less filling and ordered an a la carte regular veggie burrito. More my stomach size, but just barely! Filled with beans, rice, lettuce, cilantro, guacamole and sour cream. We also had a plate of freshly cut mango for an additional $ 1.50. Beer and Sangria is also served here, and they have a happy hour from 3:00 — 6:00 pm, so you can have an imported bottled beer for $ 2.00 with $ 1.00 tacos. Menudo is offered on weekends. One television is always on with a dramatic Spanish station for your eating entertainment. Few patrons seem to be eating here when we come in, so I’m hoping they stay in business. They deserve the famous Stockton Blvd, recognition!
