Phở Bac offers a variety of dishes that are all very delicious but I love their noodle soups. I just had #9 rare steak and flank steak. My friend had #52 grilled beef and shrimp over rice noodle with spring rolls. I always love adding the fresh produce to the steaming broth(jalapeños, bean sprouts, basil and lime) and Sriracha to give it heat. If you are looking for a healthy, tasty and filling meal that is reasonably price in a nice, quiet atmosphere that allows your group to have conversation w/o needing to tell then check this place out. Oh yeah… they just remodeled and in honor of New Year are offering 25% discounts for a week starting Feb 6th to Feb 12th. If you haven’t tried this place this would be the to check it out.

I created a Unilocal account today in hopes that no one else in this country would have to submit themselves to dining at this restaurant. I was shocked to even see there were customers in their restaurant. The BROADWAY hoa viet gives them a bad name. Here are my many grievances; 1. Portions were literally half of which they serve at other hoa viet restaurants. The meat was burnt it was like pouring an ashtray in your mouth. 2. The phở we ordered had barely any noodles, and the noodles that were in it were really thick and soggy, meaning the phở with noodles have just been sitting around for 5 hours. It was like eating maggots in water filled with msg. 3. The amount of msg they used gave me bad heartburn, hurt my throat and gave me a terrible headache. I felt like this for two days and considered going to the hospital for acute food poisoning but I knew that it was probably the excessive amounts of msg that was causing these problems. 4. Do I need to say anything else? Based on seeing the few customers that were there, it actually makes me pretty confident in opening up a restaurant one day and just completely letting it turn terrible and not care, just knowing«SOMEPEOPLE» will enter those doors and order food. The thing about sacramento is, we react to good tasting restaurants. Sacramento citizens«WILL» come back

The place seems like it has gone down hill since I last came here a few years back. The carpet could use some deep cleaning. We got here at around 1230 pm for a quick lunch and there’s only one customer. Pretty sad considering this place has been around foe so long. I believe they’ve been in business sine I moved to Sacramento in 1989. I had the seafood soup and it was good. It’s just the tables, and the carpet seem so dirty that I could not enjoy my food. They have other locations in Rancho Cordova and Elk Grove. I’ve been to all of the locations and this is the one place that I feel sorry about. Sorry.

Bad customer service. Just as dirty as the location in Stockton. Ordered the sour catfish soup(canh chua) and it tasted like straight up vinegar. Will not be returning.

I’ve been to most of the PHO places is the SAC area and this one is pretty average. I probably go here the most because I only live a few blocks down. The PHO is pretty good but they don’t run a very tight ship and its a bit baffling how they keep their doors open. I like to call orders in ahead and they HATE answering their phones during posted business hours which really pisses me off!

Went there like a hour ago to eat dinner and ordered myself a beef ball phở. The brothe came out not even that warm and the beef balls had a wierd taste to it. Only the noodles tasted decent and my friend ordered w Thai tea with boba. Took 15 minutes for waitress to write down our order and 5 seconds for the food to come out. There was two Other people In the redtaurant eating besides us. Sucks!

It can take a while to get your food/check/refills here so beware if you’re on the clock. Other than that everything is pretty good slightly smaller than average portions and it seems every other customer gets complimentary water roots to snack on whike they wait. Also, the other employees dont speak English the younger ones do if you need help.

First off, I am a HUGE fan of the Phở bac hoa viet chain. I work right across the street from the one on Bradshaw and eat there probably three times a week. I was near down town tonight and was pleasantly surprised to google the chain and find that there was one on Broadway. We walk in and there is NOONE in there right after dinner time. BIG red flag. First thing I noticed when I walked in were the floors were disgustingly dirty and there were flies everywhere. I expected there to be somewhat of uniformity in the food so my girlfriend and I ordered the spring rolls and the number 52 with chicken. The food was an ENTIRELYDIFFERENTDISH than the same menu item at the one on Bradshaw. Half the portions of food and a quarter of the flavor, no cilantro or any of the seasonings that make it so tasty at the other location. If you are going to put the same name and market the place in the same way, doesn’t it make sense to have some uniformity and consistency with the food?!? Thoroughly did not enjoy the food while flies were buzzing around my head as I ate. I’m counting down the minutes until the food poisoning kicks in… This location disgraces the franchise and do yourself a favor do not go here and if u want good Vietnamese, go to the one on Bradshaw, much better and cleaner.

This place needs to be shut down by the health department. They had flies everywhere and the bathrooms were disgusting! The food was not what we ordered. The women didn’t speak any English and even when pointing to what we wanted still managed to get our order wrong. Stay away.

I asked if they had a vegetarian broth I could substitute instead of beef, and they said no. Looking through the vegetarian menu, I grew suspicious when I saw«double mushroom oyster sauce». I asked if some other vegetarian options had oyster sauce, and the answer was yes. This place is lying about their«vegetarian» items, which are apparently not vegetarian at all! I was able to order the«vegetarian» chow fun sans oyster sauce, but I would not have known unless I asked. This isn’t okay, and I’m sure there are other vegans and vegetarians who have eaten this unknowingly. I also ordered a side of plain white rice, which I never got. I will not be coming back.

Our server was really nice and friendly. food was okay, not the best but decent. Soup in my opinion was too salty for my taste. Pork & Shrimp rice plate was good. Banh Xeo was mediocre. Bathroom was disgusting. No toilet paper, no liners, and no paper towels. They had a unisex bathroom and there was feces in the urinal. The server was nice enough to give me a key to use the women’s restroom instead.

Gross and nasty af. Looks dead and empty inside like my soul. Staff stay rocking that RBF. My fault for coming here cus I’m too lazy to make the trip down to Stockton Blvd, where the magic happen… That, and because my dad has bad taste and it’s his choice. Disgrace Vietnamese~ Still so hungry. Somebody go fetch me a Subway sandwich. Yes, desperadO

Ordered for pickup after a drive from Stockton, Ca. And since I’ve been on a Bahn Mi kick lately, I knew I definitely wanted to eat one now that I was in my hometown. Unfortunately, I didn’t listen to everyone and go to the bahn mi shop on 65th and Florin, I came here because it was closer. Epic fail. I ordered a Bahn Mi and fresh summer rolls. Bahn Mi $ 6.50 | Whoa! Way more expensive than any bahn mi that I’ve been ordering in the bay area. Although, this sandwich was bigger, it’s actually a large sandwich. THEREWASNOCILANTRO. So, you didn’t get that nice fresh herbal floral note. The carrots and daikon were cut into these weird Ore-Ida crinkle fry shape. Cucumbers were cut into irregular shapes, mostly large ass circles and a few lifeless thin rejects just flapping around. So all you really tasted was cucumbers. Bread was soggy on the inside from mayo-ladden madness. However, pork execution on point… excessive char which me likes. Shrimp Spring Roll $ 4.95 | One single shrimp, sliced in half, per roll, not enough or perfectly distributed throughout the roll so some bites are sans shrimp. Vermicelli noodles. No herbs. They don’t use red leaf lettuce, instead, opting for a «bagged lettuce smelling» green leaf romaine hybrid. Good peanut sauce garnished with crushed roasted peanuts. Totally depressing.

Super disappointed with my phở and egg rolls! I was so so craving to eat phở and came in here cos it is near downtown and wat a mistake! There were no customers and flies buzzing around but it was already too late to leave cos they already took my orders! I did not finish my orders and got up and leave. Please avoid this place

I’ve frequented this place many times and I can say with confidence that it’s worthy of at least three stars. Today was quite the exception. I ordered the small #10: rare steak and tendon. The meat was too well done and the tendon was chewy, and there were barely any noodles. I tried some of a rice plate that was ordered and that was pretty terrible too. No matter how low the Unilocal rating, I don’t think I’ve ever had Vietnamese food that was that bad. Hopefully it was just an off day for them.

I had lunch here with my boyfriend and my uncle today, but it was a horrid experience. The table was sticky, and flies kept landing on our water cups and the Sriracha sauce. Our waiter took all three of our orders — my uncle’s order was served first and later my boyfriend’s thereafter. I was waiting awhile for my food but thought that maybe they were making a fresh dish. Apparently they forgot about my order! My boyfriend had to pull the waiter and re-request my order. I understand that mistakes can happen, but the waiter didn’t even apologize for the mistake or the wait. Food wasn’t that great to top everything off. I’ve had their phở here before and I thought it was good, but that was at 2am after a night of drinking, so my judgment must’ve been clouded that night. Do not come here, there are so many other options in the area that are better.

I see why this place has no stars. Besides the off putting design and dingyness of the place there were issues with food and service. The waiter did not understand Vietnamese and just kept nodding like he understood. He messed up at least two orders. Then he proceeded to charge me a fee he never prepared me for. Why are clear noodles $ 75 extra? The avocado shake hardly taste like avocado! While the hieu tieu was ok and phở was ok the whole vibe was just off. I use to patronize this place long ago and something has changed or maybe it needs change … Some updated décor and some mood and atmosphere. Just felt so dark dreary and depressing in this place. On top of that they had some soup in a cup for hand wash. Fancy.

My boyfriend and I decided to come here for dinner after class. Originally I wanted«L&L» down the street, but they were closed… and no longer L&L. Shame. I’ve only been here once, and it was to go. We actually dined in. It may look dirty and old on the outside… well, so is the inside. When we walked in, we were greeted by an older lady who sat us to our table. I also noticed as we walked in, the waiter kid jumped up as if he was surprised people were here. After being seated, we took a look at the menu then ordered. I got 52, vermicelli with beef and egg rolls, and my boyfriend got 15, beef stew or something extra large. As we were waiting for our dishes, we noticed they were playing some good ass oldies! Jagged Edge, Next, Biggie, etc. I was impressed! My dish came out first. It looked… decent. It’s not the typical vermicelli I get. This was on a plate-bowl-like dish. It was big, but it was just weird to me. Half the plate was noodles and beef and the other half were the veggies. The egg roll was ok. I’ve had better. Actually, overall, my dish was okay. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t satisfying. The beef, however, was juicy. I liked that. But everything else was just eh. My boyfriend got te extra large phở, and OMG this thing is an actual extra large! This thing was HUGE! It’s totally worth the $ 8! Beef was tender. Broth was ok to me. It was too… oily tasting. Now, after we ate, we asked the kid waiter for a bag for the leftovers. Once he brought it, he brought the check for me to sign. I said, «thank you,» and USUALLY the waiters leave you be. NOPE! Not this kid. He was standing at our table, empty room, waiting for me to sign. I should have given them no tip, but had to be nice since we got so much food. Once I put the pen down, he grabbed the check and ran off. Kid, Waiting 101 is to NEVER wait at the table for the customer to sign the check. You have been warned! Next time, no tip and I’m complaining! Overall, my dine in experience here wasn’t good. I only give it 2 stars because of the amount of food we got for the cheapo price. Aside from that, you can go elsewhere for better tasting food, good price, and good service! Not coming back… avoid the tall Asian(kid) boy. He just wants yo money!

What happened to this place? Its just terrible now. I had my first phở here years ago and I remember it being delicious. I haven’t been back for a few years, but we stopped in on the way home from the office one day to give traffic a chance to die down for the commute home. I had the usual #1. It was all broth! There was almost no meat in it and not a lot of noodles. Weird. I thought phở was supposed to be filling. The broth was ok, but that’s not really what I came for. Even worse than the lack of fresh greens for the phở. They ran out of basil and asked if they could replace it with cilantro. What the hell? How do you run out of basil, especially when the asian food market is literally around the corner from you? Pick some basil up when you notice its low… its critical to your most popular dish! The restaurant itself was never nice, but it seemed especially dirty that night. The menus were gross and somehow slick AND sticky, which is kind of amazing if you think about it. The booths have seen better days and are pretty beat up. I would pass on Phở Bac, especially since there are so many phở places in sac now. I’ll always be thankful to Phở Back to busting my phở cherry, but I think its probably time we go our separate ways.
